The aim of this study is to examine the collection One Thousand and One Nights (also: The Arabian Nights) from a european perspective, by comparing different european translations. The study focuses on three translations into Swedish from different periods of time and how the tales have changed in the translation process - depending on the prevailing line of approach and Western perceptions of Eastern standards. The thesis of the study is that Eastern culture, from a Western perspective, has been seen as exotic and different but not as a high literary culture and that this view has affected the translations into european languages. The study shows, among other things, that Western culture is many times considered normative in the translations and that the translators often give their own voices a prominent role, also that common Western notions of the East affects the translations.The word ?orientalism? is used frequently in the study and it refers primarily to the image of the Orient as it is described in Edward Saids' book Orientalism: as a Western construction whose main purpose is to strengthen its own conception of the Orient and thereby strengthen the Western identity as better than the Orient.

Underdrainage is a costly investment but often a necessity to maintain rationalized plant cultivation, one can also see underdrainage as insurance to successful plant cultivation. Late ripening crops, low yield and difficult tillage cultivation are examples on an insufficient drainage. (Kvarnemo 1983) A drained field rise in land price and the scheme of the tiled drains is seen as a value item. The interest for underdrainage among the farmers follows with shifting economic situations within agriculture and has for long time been low. A big part of the Swedish tiled drainage systems is since 1930 and ahead. Many of these tiled drainage systems need to be replaced or complemented. The life length of one tiled drainage system varies with maintenance but can still remain in good function after 75 years with correct management.

This study has been carried out in cooperation with Unilever and partly with the EC founded project, Smartdoc IST-2000-28137. In areas of statistics and image processing, both the amount of data and the dimensions are increasing rapidly and an interactive visualization tool that lets the user perform real-time analysis can save valuable time. Real-time cropping and drill-down considerably facilitate the analysis process and yield more accurate decisions. In the Smartdoc project, there has been a request for a component used for smart Filtering in multidimensional data sets. As the Smartdoc project aims to develop smart, interactive components to be used on low-end systems, the implementation of the self-organizing map algorithm proposes which dimensions to visualize.

To be able to evaluate different radio waveforms in a laboratory environment FOI in Linköping has developed an experimental system for radio communication called Rasmus. The system consists of a transmitter, a channel emulator and a receiver. The transmitter modulates a digital signal to a desired analogue waveform. The channel emulator is used to simulate a real radio channel. The channel emulator distorts the signal by splitting it up in several propagation paths.

This bachelor thesis is about an ultrasonic sensor, implemented in a bubble chamber in Artis. The sensor consists of the piezoelectric sensor and an electronic control circuit. The control circuit consists of a programmable microprocessor, PIC18F2420 and a circuit, which sends the excitation signal to the piezoelectric sensor, and later receives the echo. This bachelor thesis consists also of a theoretical study, which examines different techniques of liquid level sensing in a chamber. The study discusses which factors are important in liquid level sensing and examine accepted methods.

The focus of this work is to study whether public libraries should offer their patrons unlimited access to the Internet, or restrict which sites they can visit. The most common tool used to limit Internet access is Filtering software. The author has administered four interviews with public librarians working in libraries in Southern Sweden. All four librarians had different opinions about restricting Internet access. The most important question asked was if they had chosen to use Filtering, and the reasons for their decision.

Internet har prisats som en frizon för fritt meningsutbyte och informationstillgång, revolutionerande och oantastligt. Internet kan dock censureras, och detta sker dessutom idag. Därmed bestämde jag mig för att undersöka hur den utförs, hur den kan tänkas förhålla sig till yttrandefriheten samt vilken skada censuren kan tänkas innebära för den. För att först avgöra vad som menas med yttrandefrihet och vari dess värde ligger går jag igenom fem starka argument för yttrandefrihet i demokratiska stater, Mills sanningsargument, Meiklejohns demokratiargument, Bollingers toleransargument samt Scanlons två autonomiargument för att därefter komma in på arbetes huvudteori, Ulf Petäjäs pålitliga kommunikationsprocess. Den säger, i korthet, att yttrandefrihetens värde för demokratin ligger i att den möjliggör en pålitlig kommunikationsprocess som erbjuder folk den varierade information de behöver för att kunna få demokrati att fungera.

Background:Studies show that when nurses are experiencing problems in the care of non-Swedish speaking patients, it is often due to obstacles in the communication. Studies also show that a prerequisite for adequate care is that there is a basis for a direct communication. Nurses perceive interpreters as an important link to the patient when they do not share a mutual language, the nurses perceive interpreters as a bridge in the conversation.Aim:The purpose of the study is to describe nurses' experiences of the quality of assessments done with the help of an interpreter.Method:The study was conducted through interviews with ten nurses, working at psychiatric clinics. Qualitative content analysis was used for the analysis, which resulted in five categories.Results:The analysis resulted in one theme: "it´s the interpreter who tells me and have not the feeling that the patient has" and five categories: "shades of the language", "conversation structure", "the interpreter's competence", "interpreting implementing" and "the interpreter's gender and origin". The nurses experience working with interpreters as a challenge.

The main purpose with the project has been to approximate the magnitude of the pollution transport from the actual road surfaces and to get an approximation of the possibility to collect the pollutants to reduce the load to the water and improve the water quality.The quantity of pollution transport from the most trafficated roads areas in Örebro city has been calculated. Roads whith a traffic exceeding 10 000 vehicle/day. The study has been done with the calculation tool StormTac. Through analysis of traffic loads and road surface, which together with a different kinds of parameters gives an approximation of the pollutant transport.The calculation has included some metals and other substances in the stormwater and has also included the present of suspended solids. Included the overall study, some smaller areas has also been calculated for the possibility to remove pollutants.The work also includes calculation for three different areas for stormwater treatment.

This study uses qualitative research consisting of six semi-structural interviews of treatment workers who, in various capacities, have worked with men who use violence against their female partners. The purpose has been to show what the treatment counselor understand to be the reasons behind the men?s violence, what kind of backgrounds and problems they believe these abusers have and, lastly, how they view the male abusers as clients. The empirical data was analyzed through four perspectives and explanatory models derived from the past thirty years of Scandinavian research on the reasons behind men?s violence against women.

Syfte: Syftet med denna studie var att jämföra Multilens Bilux Iris-glas mot deras vanliga polariserade Filterglas på syncentralspatienter med uttalade bländningsbesvär.Metod: I studien undersöktes 15 personer mellan 42-89 år. Försökspersonerna som hade bokad tid hos Syncentralen i Kalmar fick valet att ställa upp på en studie där de skulle få testa ytterligare ett Filterglas. Patienterna återkallades efter ett par veckor då synskärpetester gjordes i hög och lågkontrast med och utan bländningsbelysning. Undersökningen innefattade även en intervju under vilken patienten fick berätta vad han/hon tyckte om respektive glas.Resultat: Kontrast påverkade visus. Högkontrast visus påverkades inte nämnvärt med olika Filterglasen eller bländning.

Pulvermetallurgi är en tillverkningsteknik för en stor mängd maskinkomponenter såsom kugghjul, lager och Filter. Tillverkningen sker genom sammanpressning och upphettning, eller sintring, av ett fint metallpulver för att på så sätt direkt skapa komponenter med önskad form, istället för att behöva skära bort delar av detaljen för att det ska erhålla den önskade formen. Detta är särskilt fördelaktigt vid kugghjulstillverkning, på grund av deras komplexa former. Tekniken är även ekonomiskt fördelaktig eftersom den knappt producerar något spillmaterial alls i jämförelse med alternativa tillverkningstekniker. Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka huruvida pulvermetallurgi är lämplig som tillverkningsmetod för kugghjul som ska användas i lastbilars växellådor, en applikation som kännetecknas av väldigt höga belastningar och driftsäkerhetskrav.

The aim of this master?s thesis is to study librarians? views on children and young people as Internet users in Swedish libraries. It examines what types of problems and possibilities the librarians see with children?s and young people?s use of the Internet, how these problems might be solved, and what they think about regulations and Filters. Qualitative interviews were conducted with nine librarians, and their statements were analysed with David Buckingham?s After the death of childhood as a theoretical foundation.

ABB I-R Waterjet Systems combines the robotics and motion expertise of ABB Flexible Automation with high-pressure intensifier/pumping technology from Ingersoll-Rand to provide and continue to develop innovative waterjet cutting systems for global markets. The purpose of this assignment is to develop a process water purifier. The purifier should be applicable as an option to ABB I-R?s production cell Cutting-Box. At first hand the process water should be purified well enough to let out in the municipal sewage system, but the ultimate solution is purifying the process water to the range that recycling is possible.
