Today's planning strategy, densification of cities, makes it difficult for municipal authorities to find spaces to build preschools and daycare centers on. The Planning and Building Act , Chapter 8, § 9 states that " if the site should be developed with buildings that contain one or more dwellings or premises for after-school , preschool, school or other activities, it should be on the property or near it, enough free space which is suitable for play and being outdoors. " Each municipality has to define the expression enough free space and a number of municipalities have established guidelines for preschool and daycare centers concerning dimensions. The guidelines measure the number of square meters of free space per child with the aim of contributing to a qualitative environment. But the size is just one quality and the issue is how other non-quantifiable qualities are taken into account in the planning process. The paper compares three municipalities, Gothenburg, Malmö and Lund.

Samhällsstrukturen spelar en avgörande roll för hur våra vardagsliv ser ut och den fysiska planeringen har ett ansvar när det gäller att forma socialt hållbara miljöer. I arbetet analyseras begreppet social hållbarhet och hur planeraren kan arbeta med frågor som rör jämställdhet, medborgardeltagande, mötesplatser och trygghet. Olika metoder som ortsanalys och sociala konsekvensbeskrivningar beskrivs och ett exempel på hur en kommun kan arbeta med den sociala aspekten i planeringen ges, i det här fallet Karlshamn kommun. I den avslutande delen diskuteras utvecklingen av orten Asarum norr om Karlshamn, sett utifrån den fysiska planerarens roll och ett socialt hållbarhetsperspektiv. Arbetet vänder sig främst till de som studerar eller arbetar med samhällplanering av något slag, men kan även vara av intresse för kommuner eller den enskilde som vill veta mer om sociala aspekter inom fysisk planering..

Event is something that an increasing number of Swedish cities are investing in since it contributes to higher attractiveness of cities and generate economic revenues. New arenas are built around Sweden to meet the increasing demands to host such events. Event projects are carried out in Sweden and it is important that the planning phase is carried out thoroughly to get a successful project. This thesis aims to look more closely at selected organizations and how they plan their projects and whether it is possible to follow project plans in the event projects. Karlstad has many events that recur annually, including the Swedish Rally.

The house has been entirely planned, from layout to structural design and plumbing.The purpose of the paper has been to investigate the possibilities in home automation in singlefamilyhomes and to choose a suitable home automation system for the house being planned.The system has been designed and the costs and energy savings have been calculated.The system chosen for the house is called KNX and is the largest system for home automation inSweden. It is used to control heating, ventilation, lighting and alarm systems in the house. Is hasbeen found that KNX is very expensive and that the amount of energy, possible to save in thehouse, using the system, is relatively small.

The purpose of this study was to analyze and develop a workflow for assessing and representing the value of ecosystems to professionals involved in municipal planning. A thorough literature review was conducted and supplemented by interviews and observations. Frameworks for ecosystem service assessments were analyzed and combined with methods in urban planning in order to assess social and ecological conditions. A workflow was set up and methods were evaluated by applying them to a case study in the area Åstråket in Uppsala. Experience from the case study was compiled in order to improve the workflow.Complex assessments were identified and simplified for the method to be useful for practitioners.

In Sweden whenever trains or maintenance workers want access to the railway system, their requests of usage and movements are being supervised, granted and handled by train dispatchers. The profession holds a key role in making the complex railway system work in terms of efficiency, safety and delivering on-time arrivals. This master thesis, delegated by the Swedish Transport Administration, has been carried out at the Division of Human Computer Interaction at Uppsala University and at the train traffic control center in Gävle. The aim has been to map what information the train dispatchers use in order to make safety-related decisions concerning their working goals. And further to describe and analyze how the train dispatchers, visavi their tools and systems in the work domain, gather necessary information.The result indicates a complex, diverse and spread out setting of different programs, procedures and tools that make satisfactory fulfilment of efficiency, safety and punctuality in relation to the time table hard.

This paper aims to investigate how Helsingborg?s city library?s visi-tors feel about computer games being available for lending and in which way computer gamers see Helsingborg?s city library as a resource. This was examined first with a study of 100 of the library?s visitors and then with five interviews with computer gamers and an interview with the librarian responsible for purchasing games.The study showed that most visitors were neutral to having games at the library and of the ones that were not neutral many more were positive than negative. Of the five gamers who were inter-viewed, there were several who had borrowed games in the past.

Det här planförslaget för omgestaltning av Hoglands park har strävat efter att göra området till en fungerande offentlig plats. Planförslaget har även sökt ett mer varierat rumsligt uttryck, främst exemplifierat genom gröna rum med olika grader av öppenhet och slutenhet. Placeringen av en byggnad med portalfunktion i parken har tillsammans med en tydlig entré också syftat till att skapa tydliga rumsliga avgränsningar. Tydlighet har även varit ett nyckelbegrepp för den nya vägstrukturen, vilken ändrat fokus från öst-västlig riktning till nord-sydlig, och på så sätt stärkt Hoglands parks position som vistelserum.
