Self- determination and autonomy of Elderly people living in long- stay care homes is the forefront of discussion in the media and in society today. It examines the extent to which Elderly people actually have the opportunity for self- determination and to what extent they have an impact and influence in their daily lives. A suitable way to look at how the quality of long ?stay care looks like is too look at the extent to which the user has self- determination. The aim of our study was to examine how self-determination appears in long- stay care homes. We also talk about in what way the officials perceive self- determination and how Elderly identify and perceive their right to self- determination and the importance it has for the individual. The essay has been made with the help of interviews and surveys on a number of long-stay care homes in Skåne.

Måltiden; näring för gemenskap : En kvalitativ studie kring den äldres upplevelser av måltidssituationen på ett särskilt boende.

The aim of our study was to examine how the Elderly experience their meal situation in a sheltered housing. We have used a qualitative approach. We conducted individual interviews with six Elderly in a sheltered housing to collect our empirical material. To reach the purpose of this study we tried to answer the questions: which factors affect the Elderly person?s experience of the meal and which significance does the meal have for the Elderly? To reach deeper understanding for our collected material we used Maslow?s theory of human motivation, the two concepts of Tönnies; gemeinschaft and gesellschaft, disengagement theory and the concept of Bourdieu, called habitus.

Äldre människor i barnlitteraturen ? en studie av ett urval barnböcker från 2003-2006

The aim of this master?s thesis is to examine how Elderly people are depicted in a selection of literature for children up to 10 years. The subjects examined are: lifestyle, roles and attributes. The books were collected from the databases ELSA and a local library, Borås stadsbibliotek. The books are analysed after a tool made by the authors.

There are a lot that shows that there will be an increasing demand on the achievements of the relatives. How can this development be answered to? Shall the achievements be concentrated on giving support to the relatives, or will there be a concentration on nursing staff? The purpose of the study was to enlighten who Elderly people will be nursed by if a disease affects them.

AbstractThe aim of this study was to highlight who represents Elderly immigrants and apply the theory of social exclusion. We chose channels for representation that we found important in relation to this group. The first part is a study of available litterature of the subject. We found three main arenas: participation in elections, participation in associations and clubs and representation in political institutions. The findings showed a democratic deficit among Elderly immigrants, which gave an indication of social exclusion from the political arena and from participation in associations.For the second part we decided to concentrate on the arena of participation in associations and clubs that represent the Elderly and/or immigrants.

On the contrary, citizens of the society who do not use communication technologies to some extent might feel excluded from the information society. The social situation of Elderly, 60 years of age and older, is a topic of current interest since they are the fastest growing age group in the world today. The purpose of this study has been to examine the unit manager?s perspective on making Lex Sarah-notifications. The study has been carries out by six semi structured interviews with persons in leading positions of the Elderly from three different municipalities. They were asked about different circumstances that affects the problems with Lex Sarah. The results indicates that the unit manager?s act on elder abuse from the complex mechanisms that exist within the organization.

Om bemötande på ett kommunalt särskilt boende : vårdbiträdens upplevelser av kränkande anhöriga

The purpose of this study is to investigate how activities in Elderly care matters to well-being among Elderly people, from both user perspective and staff perspective. The study is made out of a qualitative method, this to create a deep-going understanding of how the people participating in the investigation are experiencing the impact of activities on well-being from their unique situation. Personal interviews have been used as method. Six persons were participating, three Elderly persons and three persons working as staff. All interviews were made in a ?short-time? ward in the county of Västernorrland.The result of the investigation shows that the Elderly people that were interviewed not directly related the participation in activities to feelings of well-being.

?MAN VÄXER IN I RUTINERNA?

To which extent Elderly people at nursing homes have an influence on their daily living is currently debated. Studies have shown that they have limited influence due to restricting routines associated with nursing homes. Therefore the aim of this study was to examine how Elderly people experience the ability to influence their daily living at nursing homes and how limited influence is revealed in the daily care. Five Elderly people, from four different nursing homes, underwent a structured interview. The outcome of the interviews was analyzed in relation to established theories related to geriatric care.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the young caregivers thoughts of the Elderly caretaker. A qualitative method was chosen when interviewing young caregivers in order to get an insight of how they perceive and speak of the elders. The main questions of the study are: How do the caregivers believe that the elders perceive their day-to-day life and situation? Is it possible to distinguish if the young caregiver?s thoughts about the elders affect their work with the Elderly caretaker? Is it possible to notice any common factors that the young caregivers perceive as important in their work with the Elderly caretaker? The criteria for inclusion in this study are caregivers aged 18 to 25, who are working with Elderly at special accommodation. The theories chosen for this study are the salutogenetic perspective, the activity theory and the theory of gerotranscendence.
