AbstractBetween 1989-1996 and 2000-2003 a civil war took place in Liberia. During the war many, many people were killed or were forced to flee. Another of the war's characteristics was the high number of women being sexually abused and beaten by the soldiers. The aim of this thesis is to analyze to what degree the peacekeeping personnel in Liberia, foremost staff working for the UN and agencies related to the UN, have implemented Resolution 1325 in their work. Resolution 1325 was adopted by the members of the United Nations Security Council in year 2000 and aims to increase the efforts made to secure women's rights and security in parts of the world where war and crisis prevail.

Introduction/Background: Economic evaluations help decision-makers to make informed decisions regarding resource allocation. Information generated from CEA can support evaluations of a new intervention with current praxis. The evaluations also provide information as to whether an intervention is cost-effective, both in economic terms and in health gains. Objective: The aim of this thesis is to investigate the use of economic evaluations in public health, with a focus on CEA. Use of economic evaluations is regarded as both a method for evaluation and as support for informed decisions.

Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to examine whether some periods of declines in Swedish real credit can be explained by a credit crunch. Is it further possible, with these results, to do any conclusions about the banks behaviour in the on going financial crisis that has shadowed the country since 2007/2008? Method: A credit crunch is here defined as a period of supply-side restrictions on loans which doesn?t reflect the ongoing interest rates. By estimating a supply and demand function with a disequilibrium model the excess demand- and supply for credit due to different periods can be calculated. Conclusion: A credit crunch has been present during a period after the banking crisis of early 1990?s.

The purpose of this study was to examine and illustrate whether employed social workers, working with supplementary benefits at a social service office, felt stressed. If so was the case, we wanted to investigate if this stress that they felt had any effect on their clients. This study was based on eight qualitative interviews, of which four was with social workers and four was with clients. For a better understanding of our results we used Karasek & Theorells demand-control-support model.The study reveals that the social workers do feel stressed, but they only do so in periods. They declare that they would like to have more time for their work assignments, the meetings with the clients in particulate.

Det är av intresse för aktörer på den finansiella marknaden att prognostisera aktiemarknadens reaktion på en ändring av reporäntan. Flera arbeten har de senaste årtiondena försökt påvisa ett samband främst på den amerikanska marknaden. Denna uppsats försöker sig i stället på att finna en korrelation mellan annonsering av reporänta såväl som förväntningar på reporänta och en onormal avkastning på den svenska aktiemarknaden. I arbetet används en event study på Affärsvärldens index under perioden 1997 till 2007. Perioden är vald så att det initiala trovärdighetsproblem för riksbankens inflationsmål som förelåg före 1997 inte ska påverka resultatet.

Rapidly, the major recording companies have prosecuted the Napster Company and managed to force it to close down. They were arguing against it for it is supporting the development on a large scale traffic of files protected by copyright and thus was threatening the whole music and movies economic world.

Uppsatsen undersöker ifall hög BNP-tillväxt ökar risken för ekonomiska kriser. Detta testas genom att använda Tornells krisindexmodell och sedan utöka den med en variabel för BNP-tillväxt. Därefter testas för en rad länder signifikansen hos de olika variablerna. Från undersökningen kan jag dra slutsatsen att det generellt sett inte går att påvisa något sådant samband. Materialet innehåller dock stora skillnader mellan länderna beroende på hur pass industrialiserade de är.

Social games have become a digital phenomenon over the last few years, affecting a lot of peoples everyday life. This paper focuses on how social games can affect workplace relationships. Through qualitative interviews I investigate how people who play with their colleagues experience the social games and their influence on the social interaction in the workplace. 10 interviews were carried out with people from four different organizations. The findings from these interviews were then put in relation to previous research and existing theories concerning workplace relationships and social games.

Sammanfattning Denna studie utreder om ett långsiktigt samband mellan oljepriset och valda aktieindex kan påvisas. Tre typer av aktieindex har valts, generalindex, industriindex och råvaruindex, för Sverige respektive Norge. För att undersöka det långsiktiga sambandet mellan oljepriset och aktieindex används kointegrations- och regressionsanalys. Studien visar att det bara förekommer ett långsiktigt samband mellan oljepriset och ett fåtal av aktieindexen. Tillväxtteori är ett centralt inslag i nationalekonomiska studier. Lika centralt i finansiella studier är frågan om vad som förklarar aktiekursers utveckling. Ett eventuellt samband mellan dessa är av intresse att undersöka. Om tillväxt visar sig förklara en del av kursutvecklingen hos aktier är detta mycket användbart vid val av investeringsstrategier. För att undersöka om ett samband föreligger används en modifierad modell av teknologispridningsmodellen till grund för att skapa ett index som visar hur nära man befinner sig sitt steady state (det jämviktsläge en ekonomi rör sig mot på lång sikt).

I denna uppsats jämförs det gamla kommunala utjämningssystemet, som gällde mellan 1996 och 2004, med det nya som trädde i kraft vid årsskiftet 2004/2005. Som utgångspunkt för analysen används ekonomisk teori med fokus på relationerna mellan olika nivåer av offentlig sektor. Den svenska modellen för ansvarsfördelning mellan stat och kommun, inklusive finansieringsrätten, kräver att kostnader som inkomster utjämnas över kommungränserna. Det övergripande syftet med det kommunala utjämningssystemet att upprätthålla kommunal självstyrelse utan att ineffektivitet och negativa samhällsekonomiska effekter uppstår. En betydande del av uppsatsen behandlar de två olika systemens effekter för olika kommuntyper.

This research outlines studies about the relationship between social integration process of Japanese immigrants in Sweden and how social media assists in this process. The purpose of this research includes: To find out the reasons of migration to Sweden for six Japanese immigrants, any difficulties that they faced at the beginning of their immigration process and/or any positive qualities that they found in living in Sweden, whether they have accessed social media since they have moved in, if they do so, how the social media has been used and also, whether the social media has had a role to play in contributing to help their social integration process. In addition, it has been considered whether the participants have plans to return to Japan. In Sweden, there is relatively small Japanese migrant population. This social science research paper is the first in Sweden which explores the immigration process of Japanese migrants into Sweden.

This Master's thesis discusses the freedom of speech, the right to freedom of opinion and expression, freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas in the context of public libraries in Sweden. The scope of this thesis is to examine the acquisition and maintenance of the literature about the killing of Sweden's Prime Minister Olof Palme 1986. This literature will serve as an instrument to measure the extent to which Swedish public libraries adhere to the rules set by the Swedish parliament, United Nations' universal declaration of human rights article 19, UNESCO's public library manifesto and the principles of the Federation of Library Associations and Institutions..

New forms of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have become more influential in development contexts. The concept of ?The Digital Divide? points at a large division between rich and poor countries regarding access to ICTs. Critics say that the debate concerning this topic for far too long has focused mainly on the technology itself rather than social factors which impact social inclusion and development. Scholars agree that ICTs holds a tremendous potential, but how is this implemented in development contexts and how can it be used with more sensitivity towards local preconditions and social aspects?This paper aims to examine how ICTs are being used in the context of development within an India based organisation for women called SEWA (Self Employed Women?s Association).

Since the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) that causes Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) was discovered in the 1980s, the condom has scientifically proven to be the only technological device that can prevent transmission of the virus during sexual intercourse. This technical approach to the HIV has strongly emphasized that prevention is only possible if the condom is properly used. However, as a technological artifact the condom has shown that its use is laden with values. The question of values on condoms has brought in a heated debate on the moral justifications of its use. In Malawi, just as in other African countries, the Faith Community has rejected the Governmentsplea to promote condoms as the preventive measure against the virus.The Faith Community has emphasized on abstinence and mutual faithfulness as the only reliable means to the prevention of HIV/AIDS.
