Fermented liquid feed is well known for its health promoting effects on piglets. High levels of lactic acid are desired in the feed together with low levels of acetic acid and certain biogenic amines. Limits for acetic acid have been suggested to be 30-40 mmol/kg to avoid a decreased palatability of the feed; however, few studies have been performed. The purpose of this trial was therefore to examine which levels of lactic acid and acetic acid that can be accepted in a fermented feed without affecting the feed intake and thus the weight gain of the pig. A total of 60 pigs (Yorkshire/ Hampshire) were used in a trial during two weeks, between 9-11 weeks of age.

Sverige har många olika kliniker och institutioner som behandlar problem med ätstörningar och behandlingsformerna inom dessa är mycket varierande. Många av dem har lagt fokus på att ge sina patienter individanpassade resurser och ökad kunskap för att utifrån detta lära sig att ta eget ansvar för sitt tillfrisknande. Syftet med denna undersökning är att se på vilket sätt lärprocesser utvecklats och vilken ny personlig kunskap som påverkat tillfrisknandet till ett hälsosammare liv. Undersökningen har inspirerats av en narrativ ansats och metoden som använts är personlig intervju samt intervju via e-post och brev. Genom MHE Kliniken i Mora skickades brev till, sammanlagt, 20 personer som tidigare haft problem med ätstörningar men som nu anses friska efter professionella kriterier.

Today there is a research project undertaken by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences along with Wången (a highschool specialized in trotter training), which focuses on trotting horse training, performance and health. The project investigates how exercise intensity and feeding strategies affect the development of growing horses. The project includes two groups of horses where all 16 horses are fed in the same way. One group of eight individuals are trained 100% compared to conventional training and the other group are trained 20% less than the other group. All horses are trained twice a week and are out at pasture beyond that.

Healthy calves are the foundation in order to run a profitable diary production. Being healthy as calf results in a better start in life and good growth is expected to follow. Within dairy production it becomes more common to rear calves in groups and feed them by an automatic milk feeder. The milk feeder enables for the calves in greater extent to ingest milk or milk replacer several times per day and they are also able to perform natural behaviors in greater extent. Group rearing of calves puts higher demands on the animal keepers to localize individual calves in the group pen, showing signs of illness.

ABSTRACTStatistics show that breastfeeding prevalence for Sweden has fallen since the mid 90´s. Studies show that breastfeeding offers health benefits to both mother and child and that the mothers' belief and confidence in their ability to breastfeed is a key factor to having a positive breastfeeding outcome. In 2010, Amningshjälpen in collaboration with Sensus studieförbund, started a nursing course, for mothers-to-be, who wished to breastfeed their babies and its aim was to prepare them for a successful and enjoyable experience.Objective: To examine whether a preparatory breastfeeding course can affect mothers' confidence in their ability to breastfeed and if that ability can affect the breastfeeding outcome when the child reaches four months. A further aim is to investigate the experience of  perceived problems surrounding breastfeeding and what affect these might have on the mothers' confidence in breastfeeding when the child reaches four months.Design/Methods: A quantitative approach with prospective experimental design was used to evaluate the study. The questionnaire Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale Short Form (BSES-SF) was used three times to measure women's trust in lactation.

The horses have been in the care of humans for about 5000-7000 years. But even though the horses have been domesticated and artificial selected for such a long time their natural behaviours and instincts still remains. In the rich countries there are many people who have the opportunity to ride either on their own horses or at riding schools. Many of these people have not grown up on farms and have no experience of handling big animals. This can lead to implications of the horses? welfare.

Listeriosis, which is caused by Listeria monocytogenes, is a rare food borne disease that primarily affects people whose immune system is weakened. These may be elderly people, pregnant women, new-born infants and individuals on immunosuppressive medication. The most common symptoms are meningitis, septikemia and abortion. The mortality is high, on average 20-30 %. In recent years the number of cases in Sweden has increased.

Musikhögskolan i Stockholm.Syftet med denna kvalitativa intervjustudie har varit att undersöka hur patienter som gått i musikterapi för ätstörningsproblematik upplever och använder sig av musik. Frågeställningarna har handlat om vilken funktion musik har i deltagarnas liv och om detta har förändrats av musikterapi. I uppsatsen presenteras en genomgång av relevant litteratur och tidigare forskning inom områden som: musikterapi, musik och hälsa och ätstörningsproblematik.Sex kvinnliga patienter (medianålder 25 år) som genomgått musikterapeutisk behandling (i snitt 2,6 år) för sin ätstörningsproblematik intervjuades med hjälp av semistrukturerade dialogintervjuer.

Almost half of the population in Sweden suffers from obesity and the cases of Eating disorders are increasing. We are exposed daily to the belief that losing weight will make us happier and it will just be through this particular diet. Even if it has been proven that short dieting plans like ?lose 20 pounds in one month? doesn?t give a long-term result, society continues to buy into the idea that they do.Every day 16000 placards are placed around us in Sweden with loud yellow colors and big black letters which make them almost impossible to avoid. Av det nötkött som produceras i Sverige råder det stor variation ur kvalitetssynpunkt. Konsumenten kan idag inte garanteras ett nötkött med önskade egenskaper vid varje inköpstillfälle, trots att köttet kommer från samma typ av styckningsdetalj. För att kunna konkurrera med den ökade importen av nötkött och för att kunna erbjuda konsumenten ett nötkött med förbättrad och jämn ätkvalitet finns nu ett gemensamt intresse inom den svenska köttbranschen att bedöma marmoreringsgraden av svenskt nötkött. Köttets marmorering utgörs av det intramuskulära fettet som visat sig ha positiv effekt på köttets sensoriska egenskaper. Studiens syfte var att kartlägga internationella erfarenheter och tillvägagångssätt för marmoreringsbedömning på nötkött samt att belysa det svenska slakteriledets perspektiv inför en ny svensk kvalitetsklassificering avseende nötköttets marmoreringsgrad. Denna studie kan ses som en delstudie i branschorganisationen Svenskt kötts projekt vars mål är att skapa ett system för klassificering av nötkött avseende köttets grad av marmorering för att möta konsumenters önskemål och för att stärka kvaliteten på svenskt nötkött. Utifrån litteraturen har fyra internationella klassificeringssystem studerats där marmoreringsbedömning utgör ett viktigt kvalitetsattribut vid klassificering av slaktkroppen.

A considerable number young of students are suffering from sociopsychological complaints. The psychological complaints emerge from differnt sources. Important factors for psychological well being are experiences of a satisfactory social network, efficient coping strategies and a supportive school climate.The aim of this study was to examine how young girls in the age of 16-18 years old experience and cope with demands from school. To fulfill the aim of this study we have five questions: What do the girls apprehend as a satisfactory/unsatisfactory working environment? How do the girls define stress? How do the girls cope with stress? What importance has leisure time? What importance has the social network? The method we used for this study was qualitative and the material was collected through four focus groups.

Utifrån mina tidigare erfarenheter inom barnpsykiatrin tänker jag att syskon till psykiskt sjuka barn och ungdomar varit en exkluderad grupp som inte fått sitt utrymme inom vården. Det är av stor vikt att deras tankar och känslor blir belysta för att hitta sätt att möta upp denna grupp. I hälso- och sjukvårdslagen betonas barns behov av information, råd och stöd. Studiens syfte var att undersöka ungdomars upplevelser av att leva med ett syskon som lider av ätstörning. Tre pojkar och två flickor i ålder 15-20 intervjuades i studien.
