Logotypiskt : En studie om hur digitaliseringen harförändrat logotypers utseende
In this study we are seeking to discover the norms in the design of logotypes and how they havechanged over time. To achieve this we have chosen to analyze the logotypes of twenty companies withthe largest expenditure on advertising in Sweden. We mapped chosen design attributes within the logoto discover the similarities and then we selected the five oldest brands to analyze how their logos havechanged over time. The design changes in the logotypes over time is can be related to the changingattitudes of the general public and the designers ambitions to draw on convention to create iconic designthat will spark brand-recognition. However many changes can?t be directly explained through changesin convention.
Digital Signage - Infokiosk; Utforma för uppmärksamhet och interaktion
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how Digital Signage systems such as public info kiosks can be designed to better fulfill its main use; to enlighten, encourage and influence the public with information. The challenges presented from earlier studies shows that the public interests and goals, together with proper and relevant content displayed in info kiosks have impact on the attention the public have towards public displays. Qualitative methods such as interviews, usability testing and observations were conducted to further examine how a public info kiosk can be designed to draw attention and grow interest amongst students at K3, Malmo University. Usability testing were used on the digital prototypes that were developed to ensure that the gestural user interface meet the requirements of a proper interaction from the users. Important insights were made concerning; the attention and interest to relevant content, the aspects of the gestural user interface along with the placement of the info kiosk in terms of context.

A daily newspaper?s main purpose is to inform its readers without creating noise. Theimportance of the visual presentation is therefore of weight for an effectivecommunication process. This study informs about the importance of typography inthe visual decoding process. The study includes the Swedish newspaper DagensNyheter?s transition from printed media to digital media adapted to an Ipad.
Katastrofisk design : Ett designförslag för en digital scenarioeditor
Målet med det här arbetet var att skapa en konceptuell designprototyp för en scenarioeditor åt en digital version av utbildningsverktyget Emergo Train System. Rapporten ämnar ta upp och presentera den arbetsprocess som lett fram till designprototypen och dess utvärdering. I rapporten tillkommer även en diskussion kring hur en scenarioeditor bör utformas för att stödja skapandet av ETS-scenarion samt hur ett flexibelt arbetssätt stöds i form av skapandet av scenariorepresentationer.Intervjuer genomfördes med instruktörer och systemansvarige för ETS, samt observationer av iordningställande av ett ETS-scenario. Datainsamlingen analyserades och resulterade i en kravspecifikation för den digitala scenarioeditorn. Den prototyp som utformades gjordes så i pappersformat och utvärderades tillsammans med personal från Katastrofmedicinskt centrum i Linköping. .
Utveckling av kyl- och smörjsystem för ekobilen Agilis HCCI motor
Every year, KTH participates in the Shell Eco Marathon, a competition whose goal is to design a vehicle that can go as far as possible using only the equivalent energy of one liter of petrol fuel. This year, one of KTH?s contributions to this race is the Agilis prototype; a car powered by a uniquely configured HCCI-engine developed at the university. The engine is dependent of several subsystems in order to work properly, among other, systems for cooling and lubrication.Combustion engines are in need of a cooling system that reduces the heat developed during the combustion. In general, two main types of cooling systems are employed; either air cooling, where the outside of the cylinder is exposed to a flow of the surrounding air, ore water cooling, where water flows in tubes around the engine, and the heat are transferred by the water to the surrounding air through a heat exchanger.The purpose of the lubrication system is to prevent the friction that builds up in the interference between moving parts in the engine.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic lung disease. The disease is the fourth leading cause of death and more than 5 percent of the adult population worldwide is affected.The aim of this study was to investigate the association between periodontitis and COPD.Search for material for the literature review was done in the medical database PubMed where the keywords were: "Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease" and "Periodontal health or periodontal disease". The result is based on twelve studies that were extracted and analyzed. The studies have investigated pocket depth, attachment loss, plaque index, bleeding on probing and bone loss. Ten studies compared a COPD group with a healthy control group, one study compared two COPD groups and one study examined a COPD group and a group with other lung diseases.Most studies found that people with COPD had a higher incidence of pocket depth, attachment loss, plaque index, bleeding on probing and bone loss.

The anatomy and physiology of reptiles and mammals are in many ways different, and will therefore possibly complicate anesthetic administration. Lizards are ectothermic and one should keep in mind that a decrease in the lizard?s environmental temperature may result in reductions in anesthetic metabolism. Respiratory depression is a profound problem because lizards lack a diaphragm, making inhalation and expiration completely active processes. This, in combination with cardiac shunting and breath holding makes the effects of anesthesia unpredictable.
?Ett fantastiskt redskap!? En studie om hur personer i åldern 65 ? 75 år använder och upplever Internet i sin vardag
The main purpose of this master thesis is to investigate how six elderly individuals, 65-75 years old, use and perceive Internet in their everyday life. The focus in this study is to enlighten elderly people as Internet-users.In 2010 many elderly people are still digital excluded. In Europe and in Sweden efforts are made to educate citizens to use the Internet, and that benefits of the digital society should be available to all.This study is based on the following questions: what made the informants take an interest in the Internet in the first place? How and for what purpose do they use it? And how do the informants regard to their own Internet usage and its importance in society?We interviewed six people aged 65-75 years old, using semi-structured questions. The data was analyzed by using the theory developed by Hektor concerning Internet and information behaviour in everyday life.
Mönsterminnen - att skapa nya mönster av gamla minnen
This is a project about creating new patterns from childhood memories of patterns. I havebeen reaserching the possibility to add further value to a pattern in terms of memories, stories,associations and feelings.The goal has been to create new patterns from other peoples memories of patterns. It hasalso been my purpose to develop my skills and feel more comfortable in the creating of patterns.The questions at issu has been:How can I tell a story with a pattern?How can I communicate a feeling or a mood with a pattern?How does our memory image and an interpretation effect the process and the end result?I interviewed nine people. The questions during the interview was:Your name and age?Where was the pattern you?r going to talk about placed?How did it look like?What kind of feelings or emotions do you connect with this pattern?Someting else you whant to tell about the pattern?I created five patterns and during the process with the interviews I realised the importance ofshowing the stories in the end result.

Energieffektivisering genom förvärmning av flis till kokare med sekundärvärme
The Swedish pulp and paper industry meets higher demand for energy efficiencyi mprovements with increasing energy prices and changes in the Swedish renewable energy certificate system. One action of energy efficiency improvement is by using secondary heat, that otherwise would have been treated as waste heat, for use in a system with lower temperature demands. The aim of this Master´s thesis is to identify possible secondary heat sources in a typical Swedish pulp and paper mill and to investigate what economic benefits the secondary heat will provide when being used for pre heating of wood chips to a kraft digester.The Master´s thesis focuses on three secondary heat sources; dry warm air, warm water and moisture saturated warm air located inside the pulp or paper mill. Two types of kraft digesters are simulated within this study, a typical Scandinavian digester and a modern twin vessel steam phase digester.Due to quality aspects and low temperature level drying is the drying technology with dry warm air rejected. Using warm water in direct contact with wood chips increases the quantity of water to the evaporation plant and thus reduced pulp or paper production and is therefore also rejected.

Patrullerande poliser i Malmö har en varierande och oförutsägbar arbetsmiljö. När de kommer
till händelser där de är osäkra på hur de ska agera kan de konsultera tryckt
metodstödsmaterial. Dessa tryckta handböcker är ofta utdaterade och icke-standardiserade.
Tillsammans med Polisen i Malmö har vi tagit fram ett förslag till hur en digital version av
denna typ av material kan se ut, med förslag kring gränssnitt och informationsrepresentation,
och en diskussion kring vilka potentiella konsekvenser ett mediebyte kan få för poliserna ute
på fältet.
För att ta fram dessa designförslag använde vi oss av ett antal interaktionsdesignmetoder.
Dessa utvärderar och diskuterar vi, utifrån hur väl de fungerar inom en myndighet som
Polisen, i kontexten patrullerande poliser i Malmö..
Risken för översvämningar vid de svenska kärnkraftverken : en statistisk och historisk extremvärdesanalys
This thesis investigates the overall risks of flooding over the Design Basis Flooding Level (DBFL) at the Swedish nuclear power plants (Oskarshamn, Ringhals and Forsmark), using statistical data and methods, but also considers historical events which might affect the overall risk of flooding at the specified sites.Considering the nuclear accident which happened in Fukushima in conjuction with the earthquake and tsunami which struck eastern Japan on 11 March 2011, operators and licensors of nuclear power plants all over the world conducted reviews and investigations on the overall risks posed to the plants from external events. One important such event is extreme water level.One part of the thesis includes an extreme value analysis (using Generalized Extreme Value distribution and Generalized Pareto distribution) of water level data from SMHI (Sweden's Meteorological and Hydrological Institute) measured at stations close to the Swedish nuclear power plants. The results of the statistical studies indicate that considering the return period used in the thesis (100 000 years), the water levels at the Swedish nuclear power plants are not expected to exceed DBFL.The other part of the thesis consists of a historical study of extreme weather-related events. The results of this study indicate that no historical events seem to have occured which would indicate a higher risk of flooding than the one suggested by the statistical study. .
En studie om den svenska marknaden för centralstyrda digitala skyltar
Den här studiens syfte är att analysera den svenska marknaden för centralstyrda digitala skärmar. Studien görs mot bakgrund av en liknande studie som genomfördes vid Handelshögskolan i Stockholm 2007, som bland annat visade att marknaden inte var mogen för det här mediet. Den här studien ämnar således utreda om man kan dra andra slutsatser om marknaden 2010 och ge förslag på implikationer utifrån nuvarande marknadssituation.Studien är av kvalitativ karaktär och bygger till stor del på intervjuer med ett antal utvalda leverantörer och köpare av digitala skyltar, som samtliga besitter stor kunskap om produkten och branschen.Marknaden för digital skyltning har haft en mycket intressant utveckling de senaste åren och växt kraftigt i rådande finanskris. Man kan se en ökad förståelse och kunskap för produkten hos köparna, vilket har lett till att de skillnader som fanns mellan köpare och säljare gällande kunskap om digital skyltning mer eller mindre har försvunnit. Idag bidrar istället köparna i stor omfattning till att skapa framtidens digitala skyltning.Man kan se hur produkten sträcker sig till allt fler användningsområden och integreras med andra tekniska produkter.
En studie av sedimenttransport, död ved och kantzoner längs två vattendrag i Kilsbergen - från skog till slätt :
Headwater streams are affected by anthropogenic impacts at multiple scales.
One aspect of human impact is sediment transport associated to the
abundance of stream structures as large woody debris and the composition
of the riparian zone from forest to agricultural landscapes.
Riparian buffer zones and stream structures like dead wood are considered
as generally important structures for protection against an increasing
amount of sediment particles in the water. Hence, in this study these
structures were quantified in thirty different stream segments on land and in
the water.
To measure the transport of sediment Whitlock-Vibert boxes were used in
three different types of landscapes; forest, transition and fields. The boxes
were left in the stream segments for three months, the taken up and dried
and weighed. The results showed that the transition-land in Frösvidalsån
had the highest sediment transport. The second highest transport of
sediment was in Blackstaån at the fields.
