Kalcium- och fosforsmältbarhet hos växande hästar
In the latest edition of NRC (2007) the feeding recommendations for Ca and P to growing
horses were increased with 35 and 25 %, respectively, based on results from a Canadian study
showing that daily endogenous fecal losses of Ca and P were greater than previously
suggested. A Ca absorption efficiency of 50 % is used for all horses. However, the true
absorption efficiency might be as high as 70 % in young horses. P absorption efficiency is
assumed to be higher for growing horses because their diets are often supplemented with
inorganic P. Thus, an efficiency of 45 % is used for growing horses as compared to 35 % for
mature horses.

The problem area was identified due to the fact that research within internal audit is fragmented and insufficient, simultaneously to internal audit becoming more common in the public debate. Crises and scandals in companies such as Enron in the US and Skandia in Sweden have resulted in new regulations regarding how companies should be governed. These regulations have been established in Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOX) in the US, and in Sweden the Swedish code for corporate governance will be implemented in 2005. The regulations imply that companies must provide sound internal control and to accomplish that, companies should have an auditing and consulting internal audit function. Silage is a realistic alternative to straw but since silage often contains clover, it may not be suitable to use in pig production since clover is rich in phytoestrogens.

Orsaker till kolik hos häst
The aim of this work was to investigate possible risk factors for colic in horses, and to describe what horse owners can do to prevent this condition.
The gastrointestinal system of the horse is constructed for continuous high fibre consumption for a period up to eighteen hours a day. Under those conditions, the continuous flow of digesta stimulates gut motility so that the intestines move constantly. When the diet is changed rapidly and the horse is being fed high rations of concentrates each day, the risk of getting colic is higher compared to when consuming less concentrates and giving the horse a stable diet.
Lack or absence of access to water and restricted allowance to move freely every day increases the risk of colic. Changed management practices and decreased activity contributes to increased risks, as well as other critical risk factors such as breed, season and age combined with rapidly changed management.
More knowledge and education is required of the horse owners about feed requirements in the horse, management routines and rapidly changed activity..
