The main aim of this study is to examine the development policies of Sweden and the European Union from a postcolonial perspective. Sweden and the European Union are increasingly coming to be viewed as normative powers rather than military powers. So how does the colonial past of the western societies affect the policies of today? Are there any signs of the power structures of the past, and if so, how are these power structures manifested in the development policies of today? Since both Sweden and the European Union have come to be viewed as normative powers they are compared with each other to highlight their similarities and differences. The results of the study shows that both Sweden and the European Union can be seen as carriers of western values and interests.

Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to study the causal relationship between bank sector development and economic growth in four Nordic countries (Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway).Method: Our thesis is based on a quantitative method. The study consists of a compilation and analysis of key financial indicators that represent economic growth and bank sector development. A Granger causality test has been conducted on the time series in order to measure the causal link between economic growth and bank sector development.Theoretical framework: The study is based on the theory of endogenous growth and the causal relationship between bank sector development and economic growth also known as the demand following and supply leading hypothesis. Results: The results of the four countries are ambiguous. Except for Denmark, that follows the supply leading hypothesis, the remaining countries do not show a unanimous result..

Syftet är att undersöka idrottslärares respektive elevers uppfattningar om hur bedömningen i idrott och hälsa går till och vad det är som bedöms. Vidare undersöks lärares och elevers uppfattningar av ämnet idrott och hälsa och även lärarnas tankar om kursplanen. Eftersom ämnet genomgått stora förändringar de senaste åren ligger intresset i att undersöka hur ämnet upplevs idag i relation till betyg och bedömning. Syftet är också att undersöka vad som skiljer de olika betygsnivåerna åt, både ur lärare- och elevperspektiv. Metoden består av enkäter med elever från två skolor, intervjuer med tre lärare och intervjuer med fyra elever.

New method for measuring road quality- A statisticalstudy of the relationship between road quality andsocioeconomic development A new tool with implications for road maintenance has the potential to yield statistical data for road quality in a large number of regions. This thesis investigates the possibility to develop a method, from this data, for evaluating the effects of road quality on socioeconomic development.The thesis is essentially divided into two parts. Part one looks to qualitatively establish the link between socioeconomic development and road quality and the second part focuses on how to develop a method for evaluating the effects of road quality on socioeconomic development. AbstractWorking with child and youth welfare is one of the most difficult challenges a social worker might face in the field of social work. Those who work with child and youth welfare are more exposed to stress and burnout than other comparable human service occupations. Research links the prevalence of stress and burnout to several key variables, such as demographics, working conditions and personality factors. In contrast, even though social workers in this field face many negative work-related problems they report a high job satisfaction. The aim of this study is to examine how uplifting and straining experiences affect social workers, who work with child and youth welfare, through the use of The Critical Incident Technique and interviews.

Syftet med föreliggande studie är att undersöka om och hur man i grundskolans tidigare år arbetar med elevernas självbild under lektionerna i idrott och hälsa. För att få svar på detta använde vi oss av en kvalitativ metod i form av intervju med fem stycken lärare som alla undervisar i ämnet idrottt och hälsa i grundskolans tidigare år. Lärarna som blev intervjuade var alla utbildade lärare i idrott och hälsa och var från fyra stycken olika skolor från två olika kommuner.Resultatet visade att samtliga lärare tycker det är oerhört viktigt att jobba med elevernas självbild i idrott och hälsa men att de tyvärr känner att de har alldeles för lite tid till allt som ska hinnas med under lektionerna. Det framkom i undersökningen att alla lärarna ansåg att de ständigt jobbade med elevernas självbilder under lektionerna. Man jobbar med elevens självbild genom att försöka stärka eleven och lyfta fram den med positiv feedback.

With the advance in computer and network technologies, multimedia systems and Internet applications are becoming more popular. As broadband network is prevailing, more clients are able to watch streaming videos or to play multimedia data over the Internet in real-time. Consequently, there is an increasing demand in the Internet for streaming video systems. As the run-time environment of such applications tends to be dynamic, it is imperative to handle transient overloads effectively. The goal of this work is to develop an algorithm that would provide a robust and controlled behavior of the video system so that important data is delivered on time to the video clients.

The aim was to find out teachers in Swedish as a second language in primary schools view on how they work with a language development teaching in a multicultural environment. I did a semi-structured interview where I both made questions before the interview and also used individualized follow-up questions during my interview. I did that because I really wanted to get answers to the subject and the aim of the essay. Two teachers in Swedish as a second language have been interviewed. The result shows that a holistic approach to language development is important, where great emphasis lies on understanding. Teachers say that communication and interaction are key factors and that it is important with good linguistically appropriate and understandable texts where the words/concepts are learned and used in the right context. .

Syftet med studien är att förstå vilken syn pedagoger i skolans tidigare år har på begreppet motivation, samt hur de förhåller sig till arbetet med att skapa och stärka elevens motivation till skolarbetet. Undersökningen lyfter en rad olika aspekter som påverkar vilken motivation som väcks hos eleven och har särskilt fokus på följande faktorer; utmanande aktiviteter, kontroll, vilja, känslor och affekter, lärarens förhållningssätt, feedback, självkänsla, relevans, meningsfullhet och mål. Utifrån en kvalitativ, fenomenologisk ansats med semistrukturerade intervjuer presenteras åtta pedagogers syn på motivation och hur de arbetar för att främja elevens lust att lära. I uppsatsen redogörs resultatet av intervjuerna i relation till bakomliggande teorier och aktuell forskning med hänseende till motivation. Slutligen betonas hemmets betydelse och vikten av att tillgodose elevens olika behov.

This thesis examines the relationship between OECD-DAC and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) within an aid efficiency context. The ability for these two actors to cooperate is highly important and determines the outcome for a major part of the development aid in the new millennium. The development agenda for the new millennium emphasizes aid efficiency as a key to a more successful aid, and this requires increased cooperation between all actors. The analysis made is a discourse analysis. The discourse of aid efficiency is analyzed, both its preconditions and results.The analyze finds out that there is a gap between OECD-DAC and CSOs in terms of how to handle aid efficiency.

This thesis treats the development of the European Union asylum- and migration politics and the EU member states transfer of authority to the European Union. The main purpose has been to look closer with the use of the application of theory of neofunctionalism and liberal intergovernmentalism on the European Union case. The focus will be to answer the following questions: How has the political development within EU asylum and migration policy developed through the period of The Single European Act to the ratification of the Stockholm program? And how can the chosen theory explain European countries transfer of national decision regarding asylum policy in favor of a supranational European asylum policy? Based on the available material of European Union programs and harmonization measures for this area I have attempted to understand to what extent the European Union?s development in the area of the asylum and migration politics can be explained through the theories of neofunctionalism and liberal intergovernmentalism. The result of my analysis is confirmation of the European Union development of the area of the asylum and migration policy and also a series of explanations according to the theories regarding the member states transfer of authority to the EU.

This study aims to investigate development and reasons behind sustainability reporting in large Swedish companies. By examining 15 companies? environmental and sustainability reports between the years 2000 and 2008, data was collected on matters such as frequency, scope and design. Identified trends were to a large extent in line with previous studies on international development; sustainability reporting is growing in several aspects. The authors have found one major reason for this development to be increasing requirements and expectations from stakeholders and a need for companies to legitimize their actions.
