This project report shows the work around a mockup to a three-dimensional avatar-making application. An avatar-making application is a computer-based software program in which it is possible to create your own personal virtual character. The possibility to use three-dimensional avatars can in the future be essential for adding extra personal information or characteristics to social communication over the internet or over mobile phones. The problem of transforming a physical form and reconstruct it to a virtual basis has been an important problem to solve for many companies and software developers in the, for instance, virtual worlds area. Methods and ideas over making this transformation is the key throughout this project.

Jämförelse av solhybrider

Research in solar energy is taking big steps in both solar heating and solar electricity. It´s not only the technologies alone, but also the combination of both solar electricity and solar heating which is what is called a solar hybrid. The idea of a solar hybrid is that a solar cells efficiency decrease with increased temperature and can with help from a solar collector be cooled and the heat can be utilized. This thesis report compares heat production and electricity production with respect of, in first hand, a solar hybrids geometry in the cooler. The theory chapter describes solar heating and how different solar cell technologies work and their environmental impact at the production and how compatible these technologies are for the solar hybrid.

Implementation of a Data Handling System for a Scientific  Magnetometer on a CubeSat

Since their invention in 1999, CubeSats have become a widespread standard for small picosatellite missions. CubeSats allow for quick development of satellite payloads and launch in space without the high costs of a normal satellite. Emphasis during the CubeSat design process is placed on use of commercialoff- the-shelf (COTS) components and reuse of previously-designed units.This report describes the interfacing of a scientific magnetometer, the Small Magnetometer in Low-Mass Experiment (SMILE) to such a CubeSat mission, the Space Weather using Ion spectrometers and Magnetometers (SWIM). Design of a complete platform for use in multiple such missions is presented here.Modularity is one of the key aspects followed in the course of the work. A new board containing the analog pick-up and compensation circuitry for SMILE has been designed to fit inside a CubeSat frame.

Undersökning av svetsförband med avseende på svetsgeometri, diskontinuiteter och blästring med stålkulor

Breakdowns of welded structures are usually a consequence of fatigue loading. Fatigue fractures are commonly initiated in the region close to the weld toe but can also initiate from the weld root and from discontinuities inside the weld. The purpose of this investigation was to examine the weld quality of welded joints produced at Volvo Wheel Loaders factory in Arvika. The goal of the investigation is to give a clearer insight regarding factors influencing the fatigue strength of the welded joints and thereby give a better foundation for fatigue strength calculations.The investigation is including examination of the weld geometry, weld discontinuities and the effects of shot peening. Mainly three different methods for collecting test data have been used: Plastic replicas cast on the weld profile, weld specimens from a rear frame belonging to a wheel loader of model L110E/120E and Almen testing of the shot peening.The results showed that it is not possible to control even transition between the weld material and the base material without after treatment.

Quality, safe­ty and environmental care are three core values for Volvo and together they strive to give their customers the right product with the right quality.Volvo has developed a production system named Volvo Production System, VPS, and one of the pillars is continuous improvements. Within this pillar you can find value stream map­ping, which is used to analyze the value stream through the process. This tool gives a wide perspective and helps to keep focus on the entire process instead of just parts of it.Volvo Penta in Vara has earlier done value stream mapping but without good results since they didn?t take set-up times and imbalances in account.

During the nineties, ecological handling of urban storm water became very popular in Sweden. Together with Chalmers University of Technology and two Swedish communities, DHI Water and Environment has been doing research of storm water ponds and constructed wetlands. This thesis work is a part of that research project. The work has been applied at the Bäckaslöv storm water treatment plant in Växjö, Sweden. The plant consists of one storm water pond and a downstream constructed wetland.

Digital Signage - Infokiosk; Utforma för uppmärksamhet och interaktion

The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how Digital Signage systems such as public info kiosks can be designed to better fulfill its main use; to enlighten, encourage and influence the public with information. The challenges presented from earlier studies shows that the public interests and goals, together with proper and relevant content displayed in info kiosks have impact on the attention the public have towards public displays. Qualitative methods such as interviews, usability testing and observations were conducted to further examine how a public info kiosk can be designed to draw attention and grow interest amongst students at K3, Malmo University. Usability testing were used on the digital prototypes that were developed to ensure that the gestural user interface meet the requirements of a proper interaction from the users. Important insights were made concerning; the attention and interest to relevant content, the aspects of the gestural user interface along with the placement of the info kiosk in terms of context.

Omkonstruktion av krankonsol : Materialbyte, dimensionering samt anpassning för ökat utnyttjande av robotsvetsning

SammanfattningOmkonstruktion av krankonsolDen primära uppgiften i detta arbete har varit att dimensionera om en krankonsol samt att modifiera den robotfixtur som finns för att kunna utnyttja roboten på ett effektivare sätt. I nuläget svetsas fyra utav balkens sex delar av roboten, förhoppningen är att alla delar skall kunna svetsas på samma gång. Idag punktsvetsas även konsolbenen ihop för hand innan robotsvetsningen, det vore önskvärt att roboten kunde ta hand om det också. Den andra uppgiften är att se ifall det går att genomföra ett materialbyte för att på så sätt minska konsolens vikt samt öka dess lastförmåga.Genom användandet av konstruktionsmetoder som till exempel QFD-hus (Quality Function Deployment) har ett antal koncept arbetats fram. Dessa har sedan utvärderats genom att undersöka hur väl de uppfyller de krav som ställts på fixturen.

The purpose of this paper is to understand the climate of the street and how it can be modified to better meet the needs of the street and the user groups. At the same time the conditions of the street and its surroundings also has to be taken into account. To accomplish this it is necessary to have a broad knowledge of the climate conditions in the city. Therefore an overview of the climate elements and how these are modified in the built-up areas are given. The part of the paper which deals with the city climate has a global approach to be able to give an as complete picture as possible.

Aerodynamisk optimering av vindkraftverks rotorblad med en genetisk algoritm, BEM-teori, och XFOIL

This study presents a methodology that enables the annual average power of a wind turbine to be increased by automatically optimizing it?s airfoil, twist and chord dis- tribution. As a part of the study the software SiteOpt has been developed. This software connects the open source software XFOIL with the blade element momen- tum theory. XFOIL gives lift and drag coefficients which enable the blade element momentum theory to predict the power of a wind turbine at different wind and ro- tational speeds.

Del projekt inom ClampCal - Utvärdering av mätmetoder för temperatur, viskositet och densitet samt röregenskaper

The dissertation were performed on SP, Technical Institute of Sweden. The dissertation were carried out on the measurement technical department, this dissertation is a part of a bigger project, project ClampCal. One of SP?s returning assignments are flow-measurement. When flow-measurement is performed, the flow has to be stopped so that a meter can be installed in the pipes where measurement is going to take place. At every stop there is time delay in the flow which causes the customers to loose money. This is why SP wanted to find a better solution so that measurement can be done without any stops in the flow. Usage of a so-called Clamp-on meter was considered, but since the measurement uncertainty is too large it takes some investigation on the parts where the largest uncertainties occur and thus find a solution that can diminish the uncertainty as much as possible. The parts that were considered to have an opportunity to reduce measurement uncertainties were the fluid temperature, its characteristics and the pipe geometry and its characteristics. For the fluid temperature a Pt100-sensor with four different radii for various pipes was used.

Cellarmering : En jämförande studie mellan traditionell betongarmering och en ny typ av armering innefattande projektering och produktion

Idag, inte bara i Sverige, bygger man mer och mer i betong. Betongkonstruktioner ses inte längre som något kallt, grått och tråkigt då man kan uppföra byggnadsverk som inte bara är starka och tåliga utan även med originella former och färger. För att få betongen stark, inte bara i tryck måste så gott som alla konstruktioner dock armeras på ett eller annat sätt. Dessa nya och ofta komplicerade former på konstruktionen ställer nya krav på armeringsmetoden som används, trots detta har sättet att armera i stort sätt sett likadant ut i många, många år.I den här rapporten kommer man att utreda möjligheterna för en ny typ av armering att etablera sig på en mycket konservativ marknad där utrymmet för utveckling och nytänkande är till synes mycket litet.Jämförelser mellan traditionell armering och denna nya cellarmering har gjorts, framförallt med avseende på projekterings- och utförandenivå. Detta har gjorts genom intervjuer med sakkunniga, både ute på byggarbetsplatsen och i armeringsverkstad.

Further, the purpose is to discuss which conditions that exists for the examined SME: s in order to implement an ERP-solution.Method            The thesis consists of a qualitative research where the authors have interviewed either the owner or employees at management level by using semi-structured interviews.

This report covers the product development of a new type of extendable table for the company Karl Andersson och Söner. The company wants to expand their product collection with a new product. Karl Andersson och Söner is a well-known family company that has been located in Huskvarna since 1898, and they are producing furniture for private- and the public environment.The aim with this project is that the product should lead to increased sales, as well as expand their collection to appeal a wider audience. The work is permeated by two issues, to achieve as good results as possible. The issues will bring up how to make a table better, in terms of the competitor?s options, and how to apply a design process to develop a table that meets the markets needs and requirements.The design process of the work consists of strategically picked parts from three separate design processes.

Designstudie av beställningsautomat : anpassad för drive through

Rapporten Designstudie av beställningsautomat -anpassad för drive through- behandlararbetet från produktutveckling till modellframställning. Den uppgift som gruppen tagit sig angäller utveckling och design av en automat anpassad för användning i en drive through. Helaarbetet är ett examensarbete inom Produkt och Processutveckling (kurskod: KN1060) vidInstitutionen för Design och Produktutveckling på Mälardalens högskola.Produktutvecklingen gäller en automat anpassad för användning i en drive through, iproduktutvecklingen ingår val av material, produktionsmetod, utformning samtkonceptmodeller. Arbetet har utförts med en funktionsanalys och intervjuer som grund.Utifrån dessa dokument har sedan flertalet koncept kunnat utvecklas. Med stöd av ett antalutvecklingsverktyg har ett urval kunnat göras för att slutligen mynna ut i ett enda slutgiltigtkoncept.Jämförelser och urval av koncept har genomförts med hjälp av ett antal utvecklingsverktyg;QFD-analys (Quality Function Deployment), FMEA-analys (Failure Mode Effect Analysis)och Pugh-matris.
