This paper deals with how seamen onboard merchant ships flying the Swedish flag apprehendthe culture, information and leisure possibilities that offer them by the Swedish GovernrnentSeamen's Service, HKF.The objective with this work is two folded: first of all suggest some actions to be taken inorder to improve the situation for seamen, based on the results from interviews with crewsonboard three merchant ships.Secondly, draw the attention to HKF's activity in general and to the activity of the SwedishSeamen's Library in particular, for people working within libraries.The result of this examination shows that people onboard really regards the service carriedout by HKF as very good in general, but there are some activities which hopefully can beimproved. However, perhaps the most important role can be played by the shipping companies,based on the wishes that came about from the seamen. These conclusions and discussion aredealt within chapter 8..

AbstraktRöntgen är ett område där man ställer frågan om processen skulle kunna automatiseras för att göra den enklare för sjuksköterskor. På så sätt ökar antalet patienter som kan röntgas eftersom det skulle gå snabbare. Med hjälp av datorseende och en servostyrd röntgenkamera kan man förverkliga delar av dessa drömmar genom att låta röntgenkameran själv justera sig efter en patient och även flyttas till en vald kroppsdel.Här undersöks och testas open-source biblioteket OpenCV. En prototyp på ett automatiskt system tas fram med syftet att testa OpenCVs funktionalitet och besvara ett antal frågor:Hur kan röntgen automatiseras genom användning av open-source programvarubibliotek med inriktning på bildbehandling?Vilka för ? och nackdelar kan användandet av ett datorseendebibliotek vara?Kan man med dagens teknik utveckla en automatisk lösning som kan göras till en kommersiell produkt?.

Syftet med denna uppsats är att belysa folkbibliotekens arbete med crossoverlitteratur samt vilka möjligheter begreppet och fenomonet ger biblioteken, främst när det kommer till marknadsföring. De tre forskninsfrågorna rörde definition av crossoverlitteratur, placering och marknadsföring av crossoverlitteratur samt presentation av crossoverlitteratur i bibliotekskatalogen. De besvaras genom kvalitativa semistrukturerade telefonintervjuer med bibliotekarier på sex olika bibliotek samt genom en granskning av några crossovertitlar i bibliotekens kataloger. Slutsatser som drogs var att det är ett svårdefinierat begrepp och att litteraturen fortfarande värderas olika beroende vilken den tilltänkta åldersgruppen är. Det är fortfarande en tydlig indelning mellan ungdom och vuxen på de flesta bibliotek när det gäller placering och marknadsföring, men bibliotekarierna skulle vilja att gränsen blev mindre tydlig..

The purpose of this Bachelor?s thesis is to describe and analyze the implementation of Facebook in a public library. A case study consisting of qualitative interviews and studies of documents containing goals for the library has been conducted at a public library going through the process of implementing Facebook in their operations. The theoretical framework for this study consists of Everett M. Rogers?s stages of the innovation-decision process and his characteristics of innovations as perceived by individuals.

Mitt syfte med arbetet var att undersöka vad som påverkar hur barn väljer böcker för fri läsning i skolan. Dessutom ville jag undersöka om det är skillnad i barnens val när böckerna väljs ur en boklåda som är komponerad av en bibliotekarie jämfört med när de väljer direkt ur hyllan på skolbiblioteket. Jag intervjuade 21 barn i årskurs 1 och 22 elever i årskurs 2. Intervjun var kort och innehöll en öppen fråga. Mitt resultat visade att eleverna i stor utsträckning valde samma böcker som sina kamrater, men ändå upplevde att de gjorde det av eget intresse.

This thesis is about how the library can help immigrants integrate into theswedish society. By studying leading documents of the libraries in Malmö,Stockholm and Umeå in search for how the relate to work consideringimmigrants and integration I have studied the library as a bridge betweenbeing included and excluded in the society. The thought is that the libraryopens the door to new worlds both for immigrants and born swedes toobtain knowledge about a culture different from their own.In my thesis I reached the conclusion that library on a day to day basisworks with the integrationprocess for immigrants. Although the leadingdocuments should evolve since they show gaps and seem somewhatmisguiding in their presentation of the libraries function. The librariesshould work more with analysis of the environment that they are active in sothat they are more individualized for the people around it.

The purpose of this Bachelor?s thesis was to explore how principals and school administrators work to develop their school libraries. To narrow our area of study we chose to only include gymnasiums run by the municipality and conducted four semi-structured interviews with two principals and two heads of upper secondary school. We formulated two questions: (1) what perceptions of the school library and its functions can be found among our four respondents? And, (2) how do they work with developing the school library? As a theoretical framework we used Loertscher?s taxonomy of the school leader.

The main purpose of this master thesis is to explore a selection of Swedish librarians view of professional ethics. The latest master thesis written on the subject was published in 1997, which concluded that the Swedish public librarians had a poor awareness concerning professional ethics. We wanted to investigate if something had changed. We interviewed six librarians from five public libraries, asking them questions concerning ethical guidelines, responsibility, censorship and selection, pressure from lobbyists, and ethical problems relating to Internet. The answers we got gave the impression of a divided profession, and the librarian?s awareness of professional ethics can hardly be said to have been improved since 1997.

This is a two years master?s thesis that studies five libraries. The purpose with the paper was to look at a specific material and study how it expresses itself around the architecture of the buildings, an if the descriptions were different depending on the library, public library or university library. The conclusion is that the ways of describing the library buildings have varied; depending on one part time and one part evolution. The way library buildings look and have been used has changed over time also, and as well how people perceive and talk, or in this case write about them..

In this diploma work we present the results from a study of how adult immigrants utilise the services provided by the public library in Biskopsgården, Gothenburg. A survey encompassing 51 library visitors of foreign origin and an interview with two librarians at the library were performed.The results from the survey show that the majority of the informants were male students inages from 26 to 45 years and that they had been living in Sweden for a maximum of five years. 73% of the informants used the library to borrow literature in Swedish, 53% to read newspapers and periodicals in their native language, 43% to borrow literature in their native language and 43% to read newspapers and periodicals in Swedish.These results were compared with two other related studies with which partial correspondencewas found. The purpose of the study was from the perspective of young people that has completed a stay at HVB-home. The respondents are between 15-21 years both boys and girls. The basic questions were: How do the respondents look upon this HVB-homes service process? How do the respondents look upon this HVB-homes service contents? How do the respondents look upon this HVB-homes service regarding available information and how the staff is available? What positive and negative experience do they have from their stay at the HVB-home? We also wish to get a picture of what is important to change to improve the quality on this HVB-home. To receive answers to those questions we formed a questionnaire.

Ett antal bibliotek i Sverige, med Kungliga biblioteket i spetsen, har tagit beslut att byta klassifikationssystem från SAB-systemet till Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC). Den aspekt på denna övergång som utreds här är att ur ett användarperspektiv utvärdera Kungliga bibliotekets förslag på hylluppställningar som biblioteken kan använda sig av vid en övergång till DDC. Först jämför jag hur SAB och DDC:s huvudklasser skiljer sig åt och därefter diskuterar jag de olika hylluppställningarna ur ett användarperspektiv. SAB-systemet har 25 huvudklasser och DDC endast tio. Detta innebär att SAB-systemet har mer utkristalliserade ämnen i sina huvudklasser, medan DDC behandlar fler ämnen i varje huvudklass. SAB-systemet har fokus på humanistiska ämnen, medan naturvetenskapliga ämnen hamnar längre ned i systemet.

Studiens syfte var att undersöka några förskollärares syn på och arbete med bilderböcker i förskolan, med ett särskilt fokus på barns språkutveckling. För att samla in önskad data var studien av kvalitativ karaktär där halvstrukturerade intervjuer utfördes med åtta verksamma förskollärare. I resultatet framgick det att bilderboken är en central del i förskolans verksamhet och att förskollärare försökte ha medvetna intentioner vid högläsning och val av bilderböcker. Vid högläsning framgick det att text, bild och samtal hade betydelse för barnens språkutveckling, men att samtalet var det som vägde tyngst. Vid val av bilderböcker belystes biblioteket som en viktig aspekt och att om pedagogerna väljer böcker utgår de från barnens intressen och aktuella temaarbeten.

The purpose of this study was to find out what different groups of visitors do when they are at Borås City Library. Three issues were formulated from the purpose and they were: What do users do when they visit the City Library in Borås? What occupations do those who visit the library have? What similarities and differences are there in the use of the library depending on the visitors? occupations? To answer these questions a questionnaire was handed out among the visitors at Borås City Library.
