Investigation of yeast Grown in SSF Dring Biothanol Production from Lignocellusosic Material
Ethanol produced from lignocellulosic biomass has the potential to become a promisingalternative to gasoline. In this work the simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF)technology was applied for ethanol production from hardwood with focus on cell growth,ethanol production and contamination.The SSF was performed at PH 5.5 and 35°C for different suspended solid concentrations(8%, 10% and 12%) of pretreated birch slurry which contained 16 % total suspended solids.Two different hexose fermenting yeast strain (Ethanol Red) and pentose fermenting yeaststrain were used.Quantifying the concentration of chemical components and metabolites in the fermentationmedium demonstrated that glucose and xylose are the major fermentable sugars in the slurry.The higher load of slurry (12%) represents a higher content of carbohydrates and potentiallyhigher end concentration of ethanol. Moreover, more lactic acid is produced with the lowerload of slurry (8 % or 10 %), presumably due to a result of a less inhibitory environment forbacterial growth. In this context, acetic acid sticks out as the most important inhibitor withconcentrations of 15.2 and 12.5 and 9.7 g/l respectively in the 12 %, 10 % and 8 % (ofsuspended solids) trials. Using pentose fermenting yeast may lead to higher ethanolproduction, lower xylose uptake and lower lactic acid formation.
Gemensamma åtgärder i harmoni? : En beskrivande fallstudie av regional miljöpolitisk koordination mellan nationell och internationell nivå.
The aim and scope of this study is to describe the coordination of joint efforts concerning chemicals and hazardous substances in the Baltic Sea region, between the Swedish Chemicals Agency (KemI) and the land-based pollution group of the Helsinki Commission (HELCOM LAND). Based on the description of the coordination, the second aim is to discuss the consequences for the Swedish Chemicals Agency in its policy shaping work towards a nontoxic environment. A qualitative and descriptive case study method is used for this purpose. Theories of coordination and achievement-inducing criteria for environmental goals are applied to the case. Components and related processes of coordination are applied to the descriptive part of the study, whilst the achievement-inducing criteria are applied in the discussion.

Abstract
In order to make the modern agriculture less dependent on non-renewable external inputs, it
has to rely more on ecosystem services. The agricultural system produce not only food, fiber
and fuel, it also generates other ecosystem services such as e.g. photosynthesis, recycling of
nutrients, influencing local microclimate, pollination, biological control and detoxification of
noxious chemicals.
This study is an attempt to get a better understanding about the interaction among different
ecosystem services and different habitats capacity to generate them. An evaluation of eight
different methods is done. The ecosystem services studied are the ability to absorb solar
energy, biomass production, botanical diversity, Decomposition and natural predation of
aphids.
Grund plöjning med Kvernelands Ecomat och Ecomat Seeder : resultat från undersökningar genomförda år 2005
The Kverneland Ecomat and The Ecomat Seeder has been tested in three different field
studies. All the studies were conducted on soils with different clay content during 2005 in Säby outside Uppsala.
In one of the trial spring ploughing with the Ecomat and spring ploughing and seeding with
Ecomat Seeder were compared with conventional autumn mouldboard ploughing and spring
mouldboard ploughing to conventional depth (22-23 cm). In this study the quality of the
seedbed, the number of emerged plants and weeds, the pentration resistance and the yield
were examined.
Shallow spring ploughing (10 cm) with the Kverneland Ecomat has shown to be a good
alternative to conventional autumn ploughing when growing spring crops. During the season
2005 tilling with the Ecomat resulted in a higher yield than conventional ploughing. In 2002-2005 the average yield for shallow spring ploughing was 4 percent higher than after
conventional autumn mouldboard ploughing and 10 percent higher than after spring mouldboard ploughing to conventional depth (22-23 cm).
In the other two studies, ploughing to different depth in the autumn with the Ecomat was
compared with conventional mouldboard ploughing and stubble discing.

Coastal sediments are important carbon sinks, storing organic matter and thereby helping to
reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. However, they can also act as
carbon sources if the deposited organic matter decomposes rapidly, contributing to increased
greenhouse gas emissions and global warming. Rapid Decomposition partly depends on the
degradability of the material itself. In this literature review, I examine which coastal plant
species dominate different locations along the Swedish coast, based on coverage data from the
ClimScape project (www.climscape.se). For the most dominant species, I investigated the
type of organic matter they may contribute to the sediments and based on those results I
qualitatively assessed which sites that may function as carbon sinks or sources.

The aim of this study was to develop a simple model for calculating stock costs for bio fuel at Billerud Karlsborg and subsequently recommending a suitable stock level of bio fuel. The stock components considered in the model are GROT (branches and tops), bark, dry wood chips, raw wood chips from barking and sawdust. The calculations are based on a probability distribution of historical deviations between ordered and delivered volumes. The model presents two different ways to manage the supply in case of irregular deliveries. The first way is to stock enough volume to cover the deviations and the second way is to compensate with a quick purchase from the spot market (at extra high purchase prices).
Price transmission dynamics of Chinese ADRs listed on the NYSE
Purpose: This study aims to examine the price transmission among ADRs (American Depositary Receipts) and their underlying shares, US market index and Hong Kong market index. We will attempt to capture how a shock in the home market is transmitted to the foreign (and vice versa). In addition we will attempt to assess the relative weight of each variable in the system generating unexpected variations of its own and other variables and at what speed the shocks are absorbed.Methodology: ADF unit root test, Johansen?s co-integration test, Granger causality test, VECM, impulse response, variance Decomposition Empirical foundation: Five Chinese ADRs listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Each ADR represents a specific industry.

In coastal wetlands carbon/organic matter can be stored for long periods of time thanks to, among other things, the presence of water which slows down the Decomposition. Because of this, restauration and management of such habitats have the potential to decrease the emission of greenhouse gasses and help mitigate climate. Internationally these environments are called ?blue carbon? ecosystems. In Sweden, alder (Alnus glutinosa and Alnus incanata) covered wetlands along the coast is a nature type that potentially could function as a ?blue carbon? habitat.

Like several of her female peers, Marie Under (1883 - 1980) has been denied the international acclaim she deserves. The earliest text on Marie Under in swedish told of her greatness, but in classical fallic maner reduced her poetic production by marking it with pathological symtoms. Though latter texts by author Enel Melberg have put a feminist perspective on Unders work, the theoretical complexity of her poetic images and language, and its polemic relation to contemporary literary currents, has yet to be recognised. This study will seek to portrait Marie Under and her poetry in this new light.The study moves from an installation of Marie Under in the modern discourse she so far has been estranged from, to an analysis of her earlier works (in the 1910?s and 1920?s).
Bevattning av lagrat virke vid svensk skogsindustri : omfattning och miljökonsekvenser
Most of the saw and pulp industries have stored wood nearby their production, the main
reason is to have a continuous wood flow to the production. Wet storage of wood is of great importance to keep the wood quality. Without water sprinkling the risk of drying outand Decomposition through biological activity increases significantly and will result in a negative effect on future production and quality.
One drawback of wet storage of wood is the leaching of chemical substances into the
surrounding recipient. The log yard run-off contains phosphorus, nitrogen, phenols and
organic substances. These substances can cause problems for the surrounding environment.
The main objective of this project is to gain an understanding of the wet storage used by the Swedish wood industry and estimate the environmental consequences that run-off water will have on the recipient.
Varierad kaliumgödsling i potatis : en fältstudie i Hedemora
Variation in tuber quality within a single field was one of the motives for a pilot study
in Halland, in south-western Sweden conducted during 2002. Quality problems in potatoes have been increasing due to the aggregation of several small fields with different land use history into larger farm units, which are heterogeneous in soil properties and fertility. The study in Halland indicated that both the uniformity and the mean size of tubers may increase from site-specific K fertilization, whereas total yields may be unaffected. The results from this pilot-study with site-specific fertilization showed that tubers reached a more uniform quality and gave a more uniform mean size, while the total yield wasn't affected at all.
Site-specific K-fertilization has been applied for some years in Halland with good
results. The aim of this study was to test this technique in another potato growing
area.

I dag råder det brist på död ved i Sveriges skogar. Detta på grund av det intensiva skogsbruket där man kalhugger och plockar bort all liggande ved. Dock är det viktigt med många döda träd i olika nedbrytningsstadier för många skogslevande arter. Svenska skogar har få urskogar där naturliga avdödningsprocesser av träd får ske och därför minskar den biologiska mångfalden i skogen. Tre arter som endast trivs i naturskog är tickorna ullticka, Phellinus ferrugineofuscus, gränsticka, Phellinus nigrolimitatus och vedticka, Phellinus viticola.

This report analyzes and examines a hypothesis for finding a method to optimize thelength of the delubrication process time based on a total charge weight. The work hasfocused on the holding time for delubrication and the total charge weight.An important step in the manufacturing chain of cutting tools is when the greenbodies undergo the sintering process. Today, the delubrication step has the sameprocess time independent of the total charge weight. An implementation of a methodto adjust the delubrication process time would give more consistent quality of thecutting tool´s internal characteristics but also reduce the time course of the sinteringprocess. In the present project two methods for this goal were tested, thedevelopment of an algorithm and a weight interval subdivision with associateddelubrication process times.During delubrication a pressure increase is observed due to the Decomposition of thePEG in the powder mixture.

All over the world the waste from human society is causing problems. In developing countries, large cities are polluted through huge amounts of wastes and people are forced to live very close to open deposits. Lima, capital of Peru, is no exception. The countryside in Peru has also a great challenge to face concerning the waste issue. Children and adults suffer from infectious diseases and contamination of the nature occurs as well.
One solution to handle organic waste is to compost, which means a controlled Decomposition
of organic waste under aerobic conditions at certain temperatures.
