The main aim of this study is to examine the political Debate in Sweden around a potentionalcriminalization of buying sex abroad. A second additional aim is to analyze the Debate from anintersectional feminist gender perspective, by bringing attention to ideas about gender, ethnicity andpower expressed in the empirical material. The questions at issue are:What are the arguments for and against the potentional criminalization of buying sex abroad andwhich central discursive battles can be discerned throughout the Debate? What impact do ideas about gender and power have on the construction of a general advocatediscourse versus a general antagonist discourse? The methodological point of departure is Critical Discourse Analysis, drawing on the theories ofNorman Fairclough, Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe. The empirical material consists of 27articles and editorials publicized in Swedish newspapers between January 2011 and November2014.The result shows that the polemics manifested in the Debate are based on different ideas aboutgender, ethnicity and power. A crucial discursive battle stands between human rights andinternational law as a superior principle.

The aim of this paper is in part to distinguish the ideas raised in the Swedish political Debate on the new discrimination law in relation to protection of groups. Is protection by law against discrimination needed for the individual or the group? If it is needed for members of groups, are these groups viewed on as static or variable. Are there any conflicts present between group interests? We link these ideas to three different theoretical perspectives: multiculturalism, feminism and intersectionality and further examine the differences and contradictions between the perspectives represented by members of parliament.

Inrättar Turkiet sig i EU:s led? - En studie av Turkiets EU-diskurs -

?How does the Turkish Debate appear concerning the EU-discourse in relation to political conditionality? Is Turkey accepting the demands that are being made?? These questions are answered in this thesis through a qualitative document analysis of the Debate concerning EU as it is in Turkish newspapers and statements made by Turkish political representatives. The Debate is used to describe the association?s process in a candidate country through investigating how the process and the relationship between EU and Turkey are discussed within the country. The national Debate is then used to compare with the accession process for the Central and Eastern European countries based on conditionality to discover if Turkey is different from other candidate countries and if so explain why.

Looking at the Debate on nuclear power in Sweden, the issue of risk is central to understanding the difficulties in resolving differences between proponents and opponents. I sought to answer the research question: "how is the concept of risk constructed in the nuclear power Debate in Sweden?" Four main aspects of risk construction were defined and investigated to identify differences between sides in the Debate. Through a qualitative study of the Debate and its actors I found clear differences in respect to all four aspects of risk construction. First, the perception of nuclear power as a "normal risk" is common among nuclear opponents in contrast to a largely probabilistic view among proponents.

This study intends to examine the impact of a well known Debate page in one of Sweden?s biggest newspapers, Dagens Nyheter. We have done this by analysing Ekot, Aktuellt, Göteborgs Posten and Västerbottens-Kuriren to see to what extent they ?take? news from the Debate page. The method used was content analysis and to describe some of our thoughts about how we placed the hits in different categories we chose eight of our hits to exemplify. The material from the newspapers, radio and television was examined to discover the potential impact from the Debate page.To carry out this study we have mainly used theories about how media get influenced by each other?s news and how they do follow-ups and refer to the original media. Other theories of importance for our study are for example those about what kinds of events that become news and how media influences people?s thoughts about what?s important. One of the most important conclusions we were able to draw after carrying out our study was that the Debate page in Dagens Nyheter has quite a small impact on what our chosen media reported on.

This Bachelor thesis is a qualitative study of the public Debate regarding the role of Public service in the media converged society today. The purpose of this thesis is to examine how the public Debate, that is the Swedish Public service television and people with broad representative knowledge about Public service, motivates a change of the function of the Swedish Public service television. Our issues are: What does the public Debate say about the function of Swedish Public  service television in our society today and how is a change motivated in this Debate? How does the public Debate look upon today´s media convergence and the fragmentation of the audience which, according to Denis McQuail, is a consequence of this? The method of this thesis is a qualitative analysis and we have analyzed ten opinion articles and Swedish Public service television magazine ?DittSvt?. The theoretical background was obtained from Henry Jenkins and Håkan Hvitfelts theories and thoughts about mediaconvergence. We have supplemented this with Denis McQuails theory regarding the fragmentation of the audience. In this thesis, we see that the public Debate is a lot about diversity in Swedish Public service television programming and that the democratic base is still very important.

The purpose of this paper is to perform an in-depth analysis on how the events that took place in Skandia AB during the end of the 1990s have been portrayed in media, and how this has affected the general Debate concerning bonuses and incentive plans. The paper studies relevant newspaper articles published in Sweden?s largest business newspaper, Dagens Industri (DI), over a period ranging from 2002 to 2008. The major findings of this paper include that bonuses are widely used as incentives in Swedish companies and that the issue of bonuses as an incentive form has lead to a prevalent Debate. Furthermore, the questionable events that took place in Skandia AB during the end of 1990s have affected the general Debate concerning bonuses.

Lyssnandeaspekter på retoriken i den offentliga debatten

The purpose of this study has been to investigate the extent of listening in a Debate in the Swedish media. If the Debaters listen to each other in a complex issue such as religion's place in society and if a Debater who has a high degree of listening initially already in problem definition phase, has more possible solutions than the one that has a lower level of listening. The results show that there is a listening in all the articles, but the articles that have a broader definition of the problem also have a broader problem solving, than the articles that have a more narrow definition of the problem. The articles with a broader definition of the problem and a broader problem solving, have a predominantly agonistic Debate strategy. Even if the Debate rhetoric is primarily designed to win over the opponents, there is partly a genuine listening and an interest in finding new possible solutions. But despite that the opponents? arguments are mainly used to present the authors own arguments, the authors? intentions seems to be predominantly honest.

This essay aims to investigate and scrutinize the Debate surrounding abortion during the years of 1964 and 1974 respectively. By analyzing elements of different opinions in the Debate from daily press, a wide range of aspects concerning the issues of free abortion have been distinguishable. This analysis shows that the abortion Debate was, to a high degree, a question of Realpolitik and ideology whereas the differences over time have been visible rather than the differences between parties of varying opinion. By applying the theories of Ian Hacking concerning the effects of categorization, ideas surrounding people and society among others, have been highlighted in the Debate. In 1964 we see ideas about the woman as motherly or a victim and the society as defective or exposed among other factors.

"Man tiger, biter ihop och går vidare?" : en representationsteoretisk analys av talet om sexuella trakasserier i en svensk kulturdebatt

The purpose of this essay is to analyse how medial representations in a specific cultural Debate expresses thoughts about gender, power and speech. The Debate in question took place in Sweden 2010 and was about an inspection of sexual harassments in the Swedish acting area, made by Sveriges Radio, Ekot. This essay examines the made representations of the Debate, with a feministic point of view and concludes that a male gaze shapes the form of speech and gives the Debate a discourse sort of reasoning about gender. The special discourse formatted in the examined area contains a certain conception of power and the structure of power, which is also explained by the male gaze and the meaning of post-feminism..

In this essay, I explore the history of the ideas that have shaped the profession of landscape architecture, in a Swedish context. To this purpose, I have sampled the professional Debate on landscape architecture at four points in time. These are the years around 1890, 1930, 1970 and 2010. Drawing on G N Brandt (1920), I make the distinction between two arguably crucial approaches, i . e., naturalism and formalism. By identifying these perspectives, and by dividing the arguments of each time period according to this classification, I am able to compare the course of the Debate over time. I take on the task through hermeneutics.
