Varde ljus!... tyvärr stod det ett hus i vägen. : En studie om dagsljus och vilken plats det har i Stockholms planering

The importance of Daylight for humans has been known for a rather long time. Applying this knowledge in the science of urban planning is not very common, at least not in Stockholm, Sweden. Living in a country far from the equator with great differences between Daylight and darkness during the year, Daylight gets even more important for our wellbeing. This study aims to highlight the subject of Daylight planning and contribute to the discussion about how to include Daylight in the process of urban planning. By critically observing a new built district in Stockholm and applying guidelines of how to use Daylight planning, this paper shows how important it is to include Daylight planning early in the process.

Dagsljusdesign för en god visuell miljö

During our education to become lighting designers at Jönköping University, the artificial lighting has been in focus. Therefore we wanted to learn more about Daylight. We chose to do this from a visual approach in open plan offices. Since Daylight is part of the architects´ responsibility to master, we wanted to examine what architects think of when they plan Daylight environments in open plan offices and how this is expressed in the buildings with focus on the visual factors.Our questions at issue are:What knowledge do architects have concerning Daylight planning, and how do they use this knowledge in their practice?How well do the chosen Daylight environments meet the end-users need of a good visual environment? The study consists of three case studies, carried out in the same way.

Today it is common to spray against most weeds by using very expensive weed-killers. The goal for every farmer is to have as low costs as possible for their use of machines and weed-killers. Therefore it is in everyones interest to find other methods to fight the weeds. Finding a way to reduce the rise and growth of weeds already at the preparation of the soil would lower the number of laps over the field and also decrease the amount of weed-killing dose. Tests show that by harrow in the dark it is possible to reduce the population of weeds with up to 60%, but the normal reduction would be about 20-30%. To verify the results above we made tests by using two different methods of preparing the soil. We tested ploughing and harrowing in Daylight and during night. Later we checked the number of different weeds in areas prepared in Daylight and during night. By studying the results from the different methods used we found a considerable reduction of some kinds of weeds in areas prepared during night..

Belysning för barn i biblioteksmiljö

The purpose of this thesis is to create conditions in order to plan lighting to a library room after children's needs and wishes, and to gain deeper knowledge about how children experience different lighting environments and what they perceive as good lighting. I was given the task by Huskvarna library to design a lighting plan for their children's department. This is part of the project "Library 2.1-room as a medium" that is going on at Huskvarna library since fall 2007. My questions at issue are: 1. What do children consider as good lighting in a library? 2.

Undersökning av förskolan Temmelburken certifierad enligt Miljöbyggnad : Termiskt klimat, energianvändning och höjning av certifieringsnivån

WSP building physics in Stockholm has certified the preschool Temmelburken in Bromma with the system of certification Miljöbyggnad. The rating of the building became BRONZE. In this thesis the preschool has been investigated with respect to the three areas: thermal climate, use of energy and improving of the level of certification. The thermal climate at the preschool has been investigated by a questionnaire survey and by measurements in order to do comparisons between the results from the two investigations as well as with the results of the simulations that WSP has done at the certification of the preschool. The differences between the results from the simulations and the questionnaire survey for winter as well as from the measurement performed with a comfort meter the 19th of March are concidered to be reasonably small since they give rise to the same rating according to Miljöbyggnad.   Operational data for the use of energy for the preschool have been obtained in order to do comparisons with simulations performed by WSP and Svenska Besiktningar AB. The comparison shows that the simulated values for the specific use of energy are lower than what the real specific use of energy would be for the preschool, since just the operational data for the heat energy is higher than the simulated values. At the investigation of the possibility of improving the level of certification it was found that the rating of the preschool can be raised from BRONZE to SILVER by improving the ratings of the ?thermal climate summer? and the ?Daylight?.

Effektivisering vid bedömningsprocessen av  indikatorn Dagsljus för miljöcertifieringsmetoden Miljöbyggnad : Ett förprojekteringsverktyg

Dagsljus i byggnader är viktigt för både den fysiska och psykiska hälsan. Dagsljusinsläpp i byggnader sker genom fönster, men fönster är även den byggnadskomponent som medför störst energiförluster i en byggnad. Därför finns det problem i att skapa en god balans mellan utformning, energieffektivisering och termisk komfort samtidigt som ett tillfredsställande dagsljus ska tillämpas i byggnader där människor vistas.Detta examensarbete som omfattar 15 hp syftar till att effektivisera samt förenkla bedömningen av ett tillfredsställande dagsljus, för att uppnå kraven i miljöcertifieringsmetoden Miljöbyggnad, där även intilliggande faktorer som energi och termiskt klimat studeras. Målet var att upprätta ett förprojekteringsverktyg för indikatorn Dagsljus som i framtiden kan användas av konsulter, arkitekter och andra inom byggbranschen när en byggnad ska miljöcertifieras enligt metoden Miljöbyggnad. För att skapa verktyget gjordes datamodeller av testrum med olika förutsättningar, där dagsljusfaktorn, DF, kontrollerades.

This report presents suggestions and recommendations on how to convert an old industrial building, built in 1958, to an office hotel. One of the main criteria was that the floor plan should be flexible. The building is situated at Jonsereds Fabriker and the study was conducted for Hantverkslokaler i Göteborg AB, the estate owner.The survey is initiated with study visits at various office hotels, together with studies of literature regarding office planning. One conclusion from the study visits is that meeting-places, where the different companies can meet and exchange ideas and services, are important. Another one, and probably the most important parameter when planning offices is that they should have windows.

Solvärmelastens, dagsljusfaktorns och det termiska klimatets inverkan med olika fönster för Miljöbyggnad : En studie på Kv. Svalan i Uppsala

Detta examensarbete på 15 hp. har haft målet att kunna hitta en guide för planering av fönster för byggnader som ska certifieras med Miljöbyggnad. I certifieringsprocessen ingår beräkning av solvärmelasten, vilket ger en siffra på hur mycket solvärme som strålar in i byggnaden, som sedan kan behövas ventileras eller kylas bort under sommarhalvåret. I processen beräknas även dagsljusfaktorn, vilket ger en siffra på hur mycket dagsljus kommer in i byggnaden. Då dessa två aspekter påverkar negativt på varandra har olika tester gjorts med hjälp av olika datasimuleringar för att finna vilken fönsterarea skulle kunna vara lämplig för att få ett bra betyg i Miljöbyggnad.

Miljöbyggnad i ombyggnadsprocessen : Miljöcertifiering av Jakobsbergsskolan i Kristinehamn

Climate change is an increasingly widely known concept. In the EU the construction sector is responsible for more than a third of the carbon dioxide emissions and 40 % of the total energy use. In Sweden, measures have been taken to prevent this climate change. By 16 targets, three of which can be linked to the construction sector, Sweden will reduce the negative trend. This essay has aimed at exploring how different companies work with CSR. We want to highlight their opinions about the topic, what it means for the companies that work with it and how important it is to apply CSR in a business. The reason why we chose this subject is because of the possibilities that come with working with CSR. We think there are a lot to be done when it comes to corporate social responsibility and we want to be a part of this new type of marketing. The win-win-situation that occurs with CSR is unique and it makes the subject interesting.

Effect of vortex-processed water on tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) plants

This pilot study examined whether treatment with Vortex Process Technology (VPT) of the irrigation water used on tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) plants had any effect on plant growth. In a block experiment, with two blocks comprising 12 vases containing 1 L water and two tomato plantlets, treatment in which, nutrient solution was based on Vortex-treated water was compared with an control using untreated water. All vases were kept in a static aerated culture system in a Daylight chamber for four weeks. The results showed that the effect of the two blocks exceeded the effect of vortex treatment in terms of leaf area and weight of fresh and dry matter. Plant height, stem width and internodal length were significantly different in tomato plants grown in Vortex-processed water compared with the untreated control.
