This study investigates a farm in Dalarna which includes 16 ha of farmland and 1, 7 ha of pasture. The purpose is to find out if it is possible to start an animal production in Dalarna. The study is set only to compare spring lamb production with nurse cow production. There are two buildings on the farm that can be used for this purpose. One is an old cowshed, and the other is an unused silo for silage with a roof on top. Both of the buildings are compared to every alternative in the calculations.

This paper presents why and how teachers use newspaper articles in the classroom when they educate their pupils in chemistry, biology and nature science. All the teachers have worked over 20 years and are, when interviewed, at a Swedish gymnasium in Dalarna. I also have, in a small study, interviewed some of their pupils to get their view about teachers using news paper articles during lessons.The teacher?s use of newspaper articles in the classroom can be divided in different ways. They can use the articles to illustrate up to date links to everyday life.

The county hospital of Dalarna has for the last couple of years carried through a process of digitalization. The result is that within the county it exists image plate systems from two different manufacturers. In an attempt to create a tool for dose optimization and dose surveillance the county of Dalarna would like to investigate if the exposure index from Agfa and Fuji is suitable as a dose indicator. An investigation of the exposure index, S, from Fuji has already been done. This thesis has been continuing the investigation by evaluating the stability of the exposure index, lgM, from Agfa.

Natura 2000 is part of the European Union: s framework to protect and preserve biological diversity. Natura 2000- areas are by the goverment appointed to areas of national interest for preserving nature. Also wind power stations are appointed as of national interest and the reason for this is the goverments goal to get energy from reneweble energysources. This essay describes when both these intrests conflict eachother when it comes to building wind power stations within Natura 2000- areas. The main focus of this essay is a casestudy of two cases from two different counties, Dalarna- and Norrbotten county, where applications have been made to build wind power stations within existing Natura 2000- ares, both cases have reached the court dealing with enviromental issues.

För att Know IT Dalarna ska kunna fortsätta leverera säkra webblösningar efterfrågar de en säkerhetsanalys över plattformen EPiServer men även över sina egenutvecklade applikationer. Syftet med arbetet var att höja säkerheten kring Know ITs webbaserade projekt och samtidigt göra utvecklarna mer medvetna om säkerheten vid utvecklingsfasen. Resultatet var att EPiServer som plattformen tillhandahåller en fullgod säkerhet. De direkta brister som identifierades var upp till antingen Know IT eller kunden att åtgärda och ansvaret lades på den som hade hand om driften av webbplatsen.

Jag har som examensarbete på master-nivå formgivit en sittmöbel med utgångspunkt från min uppväxt i Dalarna. Målet har varit att göra en filosofisk tolkning av mina minnen samt en hyllning till regionen, i synnerhet Borlänge där jag växt upp.Jag har under projektets gång gjort en resa både på ett mentalt och rent fysiskt plan tillbaka till den plats jag växt upp för att utforska mina minnen och därigenom skapa en plattform för mitt designarbete.För att nå mitt resultat har jag använt mig av designmetoder som ITK, intervjuer, skisser, studiebesök, materialtester, mockups samt modelleringsverktyget Rhino.Resultatet är en stol inspirerad av saker som bland annat Ornäs stugan och musikkulturen i Borlänge. Stolen består av en metallkonstruktion, trädetaljer vid fötterna samt armstöden och en sits i läder.For my thesis work on postgraduate level, I have designed a chair based on my upbringing in Dalarna. The goal has been to make a philosophical interpretation of my memories and a tribute to the region, particularly Borlänge where I grew up.During the project I have made a trip both on a mental and physical level back to the place where I grew up to discover my memories and thereby creating a platform for my design work.In order to achieve my result, I have used design methods such as ITK, interviews, sketches, field trips, materials testing, mockups and the modeling tool Rhino.The result is a chair inspired by things like Ornässtugan and the music culture in Borlänge. Rapporten redovisar utredning, skisser och det slutliga förslaget för en ombyggnation av en skollokal till ett science center.BakgrundFramtidsmuseet i Dalarna har under en längre tid varit i behov av en större lokal för att kunna expandera. En lämplig lokal i närheten av köpcentret Kupolen finns, då den har använts för undervisning och inte har genomgått någon större förändring sedan den byggdes i slutet av 70-talet, behövs en omfattande exteriör och interiör ombyggnation för att passa Framtidsmuseets behov.GenomförandeLokal- och byggprogram har framtagits genom att sammanställa beställarens krav och ambitioner med egen införskaffad information om lämplig innemiljö, med tanke på barns inlärning och gällande praxis för att göra byggnader tillgängliga och användbara för alla. Dessa har sedan omvandlats via olika skisser och utkast till ett färdigt förslag på ombyggnation av byggnaden till Framtidsmuseets nya lokaler.ResultatFörslaget innefattar Framtidsmuseets alla olika verksamheter, men även en sammanslagning med Kulturcentrum Asken inryms i förslaget. Förslaget är anpassat efter barns behov av att ha ett ljust och stillsamt inneklimat för att lättare kunna lära sig de kunskaper som Framtidsmuseet och Kulturcentrum Asken förmedlar. Museet har även utformats med tillräckliga passagebredder och minimala nivåskillnader etcetera för att kunna användas till fullo av alla besökare.

The dependency of fossil fuels has to decrease in order to reduce emissions of green house gases. Wind turbines generate electricity with low environmental impact, but the local opinion in Sweden is sometimes an obstacle to new developments. The acceptance of nuclear power increases at the same time. Mining uranium is once again on the agenda and prospectors are currently drilling for uranium. This cross-sectional study deals with acceptance of wind farms and uranium drilling.

The purpose of this master thesis is to implement and validate a Power System Stabilizer (PSS) to a generator at Trängslet hydropower station in Dalarna, Sweden. Problems with local rotor oscillations can occur at the hydropower station when power is transferred on a new power line (130 kV) from Northern to Southern part of Dalarna. To ensure good operation properties on this power line Fortum Generation AB and Fortum Distribution AB wants to activate a PSS on a generator.There have been investigations in which situations and what equipment that contributes to rotor oscillations. When this is known the PSS is tuned to damp these oscillations by choosing a good set of parameters. The most important parameters for good performance are to choose amount of gain and phase compensation.

According to recent statistics the construction industry is responsible for the largest waste discharges of both dangerous and non-dangerous waste, when disregarding the "non-dangerous" amount of granite waste produced by the mining industry and the waste produced by the pulp and paper industry. Preventive work within waste management is an ongoing practice so to be able to reduce negative environmental effects. One of the most common actions for the companies to take is to separate the different kinds of waste from one another at the construction site. Although by working with the problem in earlier stages of the process a large amount of the waste could already have been reduced.Companies in the construction business that are actively working to decrease environmental impact in their operations often use an EMS (Environmental Management System). By using environmental management as method the company can manage their environmental work so that actions can be taken where they are needed the most.

The report describes the production of graphic correspondence and marketing material for DUCIS(Dalarna University Centre for Irish Studies).A logotype symbol is created on the basis of an element from the Celtic art, and a graphic material thatharmonies with this ideal of style is built around the symbol. A unique visiting card, correspondence cardand letterhead is produced to strengthen the identity of DUCIS outwards.The work proceeds with an international education folder which is an important element in the marketingwork for the MA-education which starts in the autumn of 2003. Two posters, one for the opening ofDUCIS in may 2003 and one for a conference in 2004, are produced. Finally, a redesign of the book coverfor NIS, Nordic Irish Studies, is carried out.The report describes the working process consisting of meetings, practical work and other elementswithin the process. The conclusion is that the work has been quite successful and that this, to a largeextent, depended on an engaged and supporting commissioner.
