In this thesis I investigate aesthetic preference for picture books among children aged 3?6 as well as criteria for preference among parents. Through my design project: illustration of a picture book, I aim to put my research on preference in the context of illustration and design. By using the design project as an applied method for research I have sought to answer how one as an illustrator can apply knowledge regarding preferences of the target groups when illustrating for picture books. I have primarily based my research within the field of cognitive developmental psychology, with primary focus on stage theory, and the field of literature.

In the light of the problems the media industry are struggling with, local news reporting is only one of the challenges the news organizations are facing. When local editors is being moved to the cities the tie with the local community is being severed.The aim of this study has been to analyze how the inhabitants of Vilhelmina municipality talks about their experiences of local journalism. With methodological inspiration from the Critical discourse analysis (CDA) this study examined the discourses of local journalism, social media, journalism's role and municipal policy. The theorectical framework consisted theories of media and democracy, convergence culture and discourse theory.The survey was conducted with four focus groups interviews. The focus groups were divided in different cathegories based on the participants experiences, ages and employment.

France is committed to its ambition to lift the European Union's arms embargo imposed on China after the Tiananmen Square Massacre in 1989. France is of today the only member state that is acting to lift the arms embargo, evoking questions of motives behind its behavior. The underlying assumption in this essay is that France's actions reflect a need to find new ways of adapting itself and surviving faced with the threats of its decreased international influence. By using three different perspectives ? realism, liberalism and constructivism ? this essay examines three possible models of analysis to explain France's behavior.An analysis of the discourse covering this essay´s topic between 1989-2007 provided the basis of the paper.

The aim of this master?s thesis is to explore concert institutions? informative texts prior to upcoming concerts ? texts in promotional materials and descriptive texts in programme papers. The thesis is carried out from a critical discourse analytical perspective. The discourse analysis is focusing on finding the texts? messages and it asks the question: To whom are these texts addressed? Theoretical support is mainly taken from Foucault?s theory about the relation between power and knowledge.

The aim of this paper is to study how school yoga in Östermalmsskolan is expressed in the texts consist of a notification to the Schools Inspectorate, an opinion to the Schools Inspectorate and a statement of the Schools Inspectorate. The method used for the investigation is a critical discourse analysis which study social and political processes in the society as created through language. The perspective of the critical discourse analysis is a social construction that considers that language is a social production created in a discursive way. It produces and reflects social process in the language. By using theories of different concepts such as yoga, religion, spirituality, non-denominational and freedom of religion, my aim is to investigate how yoga is expressed in the school inspectorate text.

The United Nations Children?s Fund, UNICEF, is a global organization that works for children?s human rights around the world. But perhaps even charity work, which´s often glorified in the society, need to be looked at from different directions. Research about intercultural education, globalization and charity shows that even good deeds can end up reproducing the problem that was supposed to be solved in the first place.

Uppsatsen behandlar den svenska säkerhetspolitiska diskursens normativa mönster samt ställningstagande i Kosovokonflikten år 1999, Afghanistankonflikten år 2001, Irakkonflikten år 2003 och den pågående Darfurkonflikten utifrån en realistisk förklaringsmodell. Syftet med uppsatsen är att pröva hypotesen att det förekommer paradoxer i den svenska säkerhetspolitiska retoriken kring normer som är stadgade för Sverige och att retoriken saknar intern konsistens. Uppsatsen syftar även till att undersöka huruvida den svenska statens normativa ställningstaganden styrs av en nyttomaximerande aspekt. Uppsatsen visar på att det i den svenska säkerhetspolitiska diskursen framhålls värdet i normer som underminerar varandra samt att Sveriges normativa mönster i uppsatsens valda konflikter är inkonsekvent. Uppsatsen för ett resonemang som visar på att paradoxerna i diskursen och Sveriges inkonsekventa normativa mönster bygger på en nyttomaximerande aspekt, det vill säga Sveriges normativa ställningstagande och agerande i uppsatsens valda konflikter är inte styrt av normerna i sig utan av Sveriges nationella intressen..

This thesis attempts to describe the application of variation theory, as developed by Ference Marton, at a Swedish primary school, intermediate level. The aim of the thesis was to investigate some aspects of a learning process. The students were introduced with the theme of ?sustainable ecological development?. This included theoretical and practical knowledge of the art of sustainable living.

The purpose of this thesis is to, based on interviews and document studies, critically discuss how the introduction of kickboxing in Physical Education (PE) could affect gender equality in society. Based on a queer feminist and norm critical perspective on the prevailing teaching of PE, which, despite official efforts to challenge and modernize PE, persists in reproducing gender norms by e.g. spending 75% of class time on ball games. The hypothesis is that girls accessing violence (empowerment) through a bodily awareness in the form of kickboxing, positively would challenge the power imbalance that gender norms create. Girls are brought up, even today, in accordance with gender norms arguing against girls/women wanting to use their bodies as powerful tools to set limits.

Studien undersökte hur realismen i vittnens konfidensbedömningar av sina identifikationsminnen påverkas av att vittnena diskuterar rapporterade signalementen med varandra innan de, var för sig, gör utpekanden i en vittneskonfrontation. Deltagarna fick se en filmatisering av ett fingerat bilinbrott och därefter avge ett skriftligt signalement. Hälften av deltagarna (n=32) fick sedan diskutera sig fram till ett gemensamt signalement (parvillkor) medan andra hälften (n=32) fick avge ett muntligt signalement (individvillkor). Därefter fick deltagarna individuellt göra utpekanden i en sekventiell bildkonfrontation och göra konfidensbedömningar. Realismen i konfidensbedömningarna beräknades enligt kalibreringsmetodik och resultaten för de båda villkoren jämfördes med t-tester.

Denna fallstudie behandlar USA:s negativa ställningstagande till Kyoto-protokollet. Syftet är att utreda och analysera vilka olika faktorer som kan tänkas ha legat till grund för den ändrade inställning som landet intog efter att George W. Bush hade tillträtt som president 2001. Både systemfaktorer och inrikespolitiska faktorer tas i beaktande och hela studien tar George W. Bushs person som utgångspunkt.

The aim of this study is to have a deeper understanding about the motivations and the obstacles of an immigrant?s language learning. I have studied the problem with focus on integration and language learning. The study is principally based on deep interviews with Turkish immigrants. I have studied the question by means of a socio-cultural perspective of learning; Mead?s conceptions I, Me and the generalised other; Scheff?s conception, the social bonds and Freire?s conception, dialog and Asplund?s conception social responsiveness.
