Diabetes mellitus is characterised by persistent hyperglycemia in all species. Fructosamine is a glycated protein reflecting blood glucose concentration during the preceding weeks. It has become a valuable analysis to differentiate persistent hyperglycemia from transient stress induced hyperglycemia in cats. It is also used to evaluate current therapy in diabetic patients. Although fructosamine is a well accepted analysis, it is sometimes regarded with scepticism.

Bakgrund Diabetes typ II är ett globalt och nationellt växande hälsoproblem. Lågkolhydratkost har väckt debatt i samhället, men har enligt studier resulterat i gynnsamma effekter för patientgruppen. Socialstyrelsen rekommenderar måttlig lågkolhydratkost som en av flera primära alternativ till kosthållning för patienter med diabetes typ II.Syfte Att undersöka diabetessjuksköterskors attityd och kunskap gällande lågkolhydratkost vid diabetes typ II.Metod Kvalitativa semi-strukturerade intervjuer med sju diabetessjuksköterskor inom Uppsalas primärvård.Resultat Diabetessjuksköterskorna hade observerat positiva effekter i sitt kliniska arbete av kolhydratreduktion, men ingen sjuksköterska gav måttlig lågkolhydratkost som rekommendation i första hand till patienterna. Farhågor för att lågkolhydratkost, främst orsakat av ett ökat fettintag, skulle kunna resultera i en ökning av risken för hjärt-kärlsjukdom eller andra negativa hälsoeffekter skildrades. Medvetenheten gällande kostrekommendationer och uppdateringen kring aktuell forskning varierade.Slutsats Medvetenhet och kunskap gällande lågkolhydratkost som kosthållning vid diabetes typ II varierade hos diabetessjuksköterskor inom Uppsalas primärvård.

Background: Coronary heart disease kills more than 7 million people worldwide each year. High levels of blood fat, cholesterol, contributes significantly to coronary heart disease. Lifestyle changes combined with lipid-lowering drugs, statins, is an effective treatment. But adherence to statins is low, not even a myocardial infarction always contributes to adherence. Adherence requires patient education and good communication between patient and physician.

För vårdaren uppstår etiska konflikter mellan viljan att rädda liv, medicinska och juridiska aspekter samt patientens autonomi. Syftet med vår uppsats är att belysa de etiska problem som vårdaren kan möta i sjukvårdspraxis. Metoden som använts är en kvalitativ litteraturstudie och bygger på fyra vetenskapliga artiklar och en avhandling.

Syftet med detta projekt var att ge företaget TdB Consultancy AB en djupare förståelse för hur och inom vilka forskningsområden fluorescerande dextraner används och även ge dem information som hjälper dem marknadsföra sig och sina produkter.För detta gjordes en litteraturundersökning där 87 artiklar lästes om fluorescerande dextraner och deras biotekniska applikationer. Fortsättningsvis gjordes en marknadsföringsstudie och en enkätstudie. Enkäter skickades ut till 160 av TdB Consultancy AB?s kunder och 17 av deras konkurrenter. Introduction Malignant lymphoma is the most common haematological blood cancer diagnosis. In spring 2013 a questionnaire was handed out to patients with various haematological malignancies. The results showed that the patients requested more verbal and written information about their disease and treatment. Providing information about chemotherapy and how it affects the patient's quality of life is part of the nursing care. Communication between nurse and patient is very important to share experiences and knowledge with each other Aim The aim is to describe the information and communication patients with malignant lymphoma demand, based on their own experience, in meeting with the nurse before and during curative chemotherapy treatment at a haematology outpatient clinic.

Livmodern hos alla djurslag genomgår morfologiska förändringar inför dräktighet i syfte att säkerställa näringsförsörjning till fostret/fostren. En viktig del av denna förändring är att utveckla ett kärlnätverk som kan transportera näring och syre till fostret. I en preliminär studie av kärlförekomst i endometriet hos hund (Parming, 2013) kunde man se att till skillnad från andra husdjur, t ex gris, har tikar i tidig dräktighet färre kärl nära ytepitelet jämfört med tikar i metöstrus. I denna studie togs det prover på livmödrar från sex tikar i tidig dräktighet (dag 8-9 från LH-pulsen) och elva tikar i metöstrus. Hos fyra av tikarna i metöstrus togs även prover från två platser i livmodern, ena hornet samt kroppen. Hos övriga tikar togs bara ett prov från ena hornet. Förekomsten av kapillärer och postkapillära vener i två av livmoderns tre zoner jämfördes (kryptzon och intermediärzon).

The purpose of this study is to give an overview about iron fortification from the view of technique and health. Example of a technical aspect is different iron compounds which are used for fortification like ferrous sulfate, ferrous fumarate and elemental iron. In the aspect of health the big question is if iron fortification can improve the health in reducing the prevalence of anemia. The study focuses on flour fortification with iron in Egypt and Iran and involves a literature study with scientific articles. Also information from WHO (World Health Organization), FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) and FFI (Flour Fortification Initiative) are used.Fortification means an intentionally increasing of the content of micronutrient in foods with the aim to improve the food quality and deliver a nutritional benefit to the consumer.

The sedentary lifestyle causes heart- and vascular diseases, diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, stress etc. in the population. One of the biggest priorities in the society is to promote more physical activity. Through literature studies and a questionnaire this paper will examine how we can design the built environment in order to promote physical exercise and if we can change the sedentary lifestyle with a outdoor environment that invite physical exercise. There are both internal and external factors that have importance for people?s physical activity.

Background: Sweden is a country where vitamin D deficiency seems to be common, partly because of its geographical position, which reduces the availability of UVB radiation, but also that people avoid sunlight due to increased skin cancer risk. Research shows that vitamin D plays an important role in the prevention of many diseases such as cancer as well as autoimmune and neuropsychiatric diseases.Vitamin D is a fat soluble pre-hormone and a collective name for closely related compounds which act as hormones after undergoing a transformation in the body.Humans can utilize vitamin D through diet and produce it in the body by exposing the skin to the sun. Previous observational studies and epidemiological studies have established a hypothesis that there seems to be an association between vitamin D supplementation and reduction of depressive symptoms.Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate if vitamin D supplements may decrease depressive symptoms.Methods: This work is organized as a literature review and article search is made in the database PubMed in January 2012. Keywords used were ?vitamin D and depression? and inclusion criteria were: randomized clinical trials, be conducted on humans, written in English.
