Inom ramen för examensarbetet konstruerades ett kompendium som ska förmedla kunskap om den vetenskapliga processen genom integration av autentiska experiment i skolan. Materialet ska hjälpa eleverna att konstruera sina egna experiment och samtidigt bli medvetna om ?tänkandet bakom görandet?. Kompendiet riktar sig till elever i gymnasieskolans biologiundervisning, och kan med fördel användas inom kursen biologi breddning. Den experimentella metoden som används är blodsockermätningar med eleven själv som mätsystem.

I denna komparativa studie av användbarhet undersöktes telefonerna Sony Ericsson T630, Simens S65 och Nokia 6230 för att kunna se vilka felassociationer deras respektive gränssnitt ger upphov till. Studien är gjord därför att jag fann de metoder för att studera gränssnitt i mobiltelefoner jag kommit i kontakt med fokuserade alltför mycket på effektivitetsaspekten av användbarhet. Metoderna var inriktade på vana användare och för studier av människor med relativt liten erfarenhet var de obrukbara. Under arbetet har en ny metod för studier av denna typ tagits fram med fokus på ändamålsenlighets-aspekten av ISO 9241-11. Jag har undersökt hur väl sju medelålders personer klarat av de olika gränssnitten och kartlagt deras tidigare mobiltelefonvanor.

The aim of this Master's thesis is to study whether bibliometrics can serve as a method to analyse the humanities.To investigate this a literature study was conducted that examined previous studies concerning bibliometrics and the humanities. Furthermore a bibliometric analysis of comparative literature was carried out. These research findings were then further examined through the perspective of theories on intellectual and social organization of the scienceThe bibliometrical study includes 38 literature journals (11 855 articles in total) which were downloaded from ISI's Web of Science. The material was analysed by using co-citation analysis and co-word analysis. The results of the study are presented in five co-citation maps.

Recent studies indicate that teaching the theory of evolution in Swedish secondary schools is not as uncontroversial as expected considering that Sweden is often described as one of the World?s most secularzied countries. A recent study indicates that Swedish teachers have a varity of tactics to avoid coming in conflict with their students or even parents of students that believe they have a rightto dictate how evolution should be taught. This study had fourmain aims; the first being to analyse both the previous curriculum and the new to see how the teaching of evolution is adressed, and if any changes have been made in the curriculum. The second being to look into how teachers interpret the curriculumand if they have noticed any changes in the new curriculum which have had an affect on their teachingmethods? The third being if teachers have met resistance when they teach evolution and the origins of life, and if so, how do they deal with these conflicts? The fourth and final aim of this study was to see if instances of conflict are on the rise as indicatedin the literature.The results of this study indicate that there has been no siginificant changes made in the curriculum with the exceptionthat the new curriculum is more clear and precise as to what teachers are expected to teach and that pseudoscience, such as intelligent design, has no place in science classroomsexcept when teachingthe philosophy of science.

There are lots of theories about participatory democracy, but rather few examples of how to create it in practice. In the 1930´s, scientists at the Chicago School, implemented some projects within the Chicago Area Project, with the aim to decrease the youth delinquency in the socio disadvantaged areas surrounding Chicago. In this thesis, I assess wether these projects, and in particular the one at the Russell Square Area, have some common features with the thoughts of two of the most famous participatory democrats, Carole Pateman and Benjamin Barber. My question is if the Chicago Area Project could be seen as an experiment in participatory democracy. I find that participatory democrats could benefit from the experiences of the Chicago Area Project.

I denna uppsats har vi undersökt ett produktutvecklande IT-företag med rötter från konsultbranschen. Syftet med uppsatsen var att se hur ett produktutvecklande IT-företag skiljer sig från ett konsultföretag. Vi har även undersökt hur det produktutvecklande företagets rötter från konsultbranschen påverkar arbetet med produktutvecklingen. Vi undersökte detta genom att på ett IT-företag göra en kvalitativ studie som främst bestod av intervjuer. Med hjälp av teorier har vi undersökt företaget inom fyra olika områden: företagets systemutvecklingsarbete, skillnader mellan tjänster och produkter, organisationens utveckling och företagets interorganisatoriska nätverk.

Ett införande av ett informationsystem i en organisation lederofta till förändringar både på ett organisatoriskt och individuelltplan. Exempelvis kan individer få andra arbetsuppgifter eller blirutan arbete till följd av informationssystemet.Informationssystem kan också användas inom säkerhetskritiskaområden som exemplevis inom sjukvården, flygplansindustrinoch inom det militära. Vem bär ansvaret vid felaktigheter isystemet då olyckan är framme? Vid en överblick över erkändasystemutvecklingsmetoder återfinns ingen vägledning hur deetiska aspekterna ska beaktas i samband med systemutveckling.Syftet med uppsatsen var att svara på frågan hur det tas hänsyntill de etiska dilemman som kan uppstå i samband medsystemutveckling. För att besvara frågan utfördes femkvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer med systemutvecklaremed olika arbetserfarenheter.

This report is an attempt to clarify how religious and non-religious views-of-life [livsåskådningar] are created through the collaboration and opposition of religious and scientific elements/ideas. This with the hope of reaching a fruitful result related to the solution of world-view related conflicts, such as the ones existing between science and religion, on an individual and societal level.This is accomplished with the help of two assertions: (1) Mankind has a need to explain its existence and surroundings. (2) Religion and science has their origins in the same seed and aim to serve the same purpose, or function. Together these two assertions lay the theoretical foundations of this report which implies that all humans have an innate need of sustaining a stable world-view.The result of this report is that a final solution to world-view related conflicts are beyond reach as our mental and physical nature limits us. However there are strategies for minimizing world-view related conflicts effect on society..

Internetanvändandet i Sverige har ökat under flera år och det finns tendenser på att det fortsätter att öka. Det ökande användandet medför inte bara positiva aspekter utan även negativa aspekter som olika Internetrelaterade hot och risker som kan drabba användare. Syftet med denna uppsats var att ta reda på om Internetanvändningen och dess aktiviteter och tjänster fortsätter att öka. Ytterligare en anledning var att undersöka om kunskapen och medvetenheten om Internetrelaterade hot och risker har ökat hos Internetanvändare samt hur de skyddar sin dator mot de olika hoten och riskerna. För att styrka och få bättre relevans på uppsatsen innehåller teorikapitlet bland annat korta beskrivningar om de vanligaste begreppen inom Internetrelaterade hot, risker och säkerhetsskydd samt statistik om hur Internetanvändandet har sett ut de senaste åren.

This study was performed in order to investigate the difficulty in diagnosing retrobulbar disease with ultrasound. A retrospective study was accomplished to investigate the use of ultrasound in patients with suspected retrobulbar problems, and how often the examination is diagnostic. The computer based patient files, at the University of Agricultural Science in Uppsala, were searched for dogs with suspected retrobulbar disease. During 1999-01-01-2004-04-14, 14 patients fulfilling the search criteria were found. The patient records were studied, and the written reports from the ultrasound examinations were compared with the printed pictures from the examinations.

This report is a thesis work for a B.Sc. in Forestry at the School for Forest Engineers, SLU. The aim of the work was to compare two different pricelists with the actual output from a harvester. The results have also been compared with a volume estimate of standing trees done by the Swedish Forest Agency and the ?true? value registered by the Wood Measurement Association. The study confirms that the output calculated by the computer on the harvester is more reliable than the volume of standing trees estimated by Swedish Forest Agency. .

The Swedish Library Classification System, known as the SAB-system, can be viewed as a product of the cultural and social norms and values in Sweden during the time in which it was created and subsequently reviewed. The main purpose of this master?s thesis is to examine the archaeology section J in the SAB-system, in order to observe if values and norms within this discipline had any impact on the Swedish Library classification system. Our intention is therefore to verify any correspondence between the choice of topics and hierarchical structure of that section, and the values and norms that ruled the Swedish society during the 20th century at large but with particular emphasis to the academic discipline of Archaeology. At the present, Archaeology is often disputed as a value-free interpretive science.

The purpose of this study was to increase the understanding of the phenomenon that there are so many young people placed in institutions in Sweden despite the valuable knowledge regarding the problems and risks of doing so. The questions that follow in the essay were what guided the social workers to choose institutional placement for youngsters. It went on to also ask if this knowledge could contribute to an increased understanding of why there were so many young people placed in institutions despite the criticism from scientists. To accomplish the goal of the essay, former science in the subject was reported and six social workers within social services were interviewed. The material of the interviews was analyzed with help from the theory of human service organizations, street-level bureaucrats work situation and the new institutionalism.The result of the investigation showed that the social workers choices to place young people in institutions is guided by specific work and organizational factors connected with a belief in the helping function of the surroundings.

I denna uppsats har vi undersökt och studerat IT-artefakten bloggen och dess användning inom den politiska kontexten. Syftet med studien var att undersöka riksdagsledamöters användning av bloggen och den roll de såg bloggen spela i det politiska arbetet. Detta har gjorts med hjälp av intervjuer av bloggande riksdagspolitiker och genom en undersökning av bloggande riksdagsledamöters användning av bloggen. Tidigare publiceringar inom Informatik har tillsammans främst med teori från media och kommunikationsvetenskapen använts för att i studien ge en ökad förståelse för bloggen som IT-artefakt. Av resultatet går det att avläsa att bloggen i stor utsträckning inte användes av de bloggande riksdagsledamöterna på ett sätt som ligger i linje med dess grundläggande egenskaper.

This study is about how students 'performance in school is influenced by parents' educational background. The study has been performed by cooperation with two schools in Stockholm. One class in each school has participated and the students have amongst other questions answered regarding their grades in natural science subjects. To examine whether parents 'educational background affect students' performance, a quantitative survey in the form of poll has been conducted. Even a literature review was conducted in this area to get a clearer picture of how parents' educational background affects the performance of students.This study shows that students who have academic parents perform better than students who have not got academically educated parents.
