In studies of serum, in the early 1930s, from patients with pneumonia, a factor was found. It could agglutinate certain pneumococcal species. This factor, which later became known as C-reactive protein (CRP), increased sharply during the early and middle stages of the disease. CRP was identified as an acute phase protein and found especially in bacterial infections. Global warming is one of the most debated environmental issues right now, and it could be argued that it is important to study how the phenomenon is treated in schools. The main purpose of this study is to put students? knowledge about global warming in relation with the control documents for chemistry, biology and physics studies. Interviews have been conducted with six students in the 9th grade. The conclusion of the survey indicates that the students generally have a satisfying knowledge about the phenomenon and that they know how they should behave from an environmental perspective..

During the last decades the housing sector has increased continuously, and housings and services accounted for 40 % of the energy usage in Sweden during 2011. The expansion in number of buildings in society has resulted in an increase in both energy usage and emissions of greenhouse gases. It is crucial to enable a sustainable development of society and as a result, the demand to reduce the emissions of carbon dioxide is a current question. In this study, the carbon dioxide emitted from the housing sector in Stockholm is estimated. The housing sector can be divided into different types of houses such as apartment blocks, single-family houses and holiday houses. By collecting information of the energy purchased in respective households, a computational model is generated that calculates the total emission of carbon dioxide.

This thesis describes a system for dealing with free surface fluid simulations, and the components needed in order to construct such a system. It builds upon recent research, but in a computer graphics context the amount of available literature is limited and difficult to implement. Because of this, the text aims at providing a solid foundation of the mathematics needed, at explaining in greater detail the steps needed to solve the problem, and lastly at improving some aspects of the animation process as it has been described in earlier works. The aim of the system itself is to provide visually plausible renditions of animated fluids in three dimensions in a manner that allows it to be usable in a visual effects production context. The novel features described include a generalized interaction layer providing greater control to artists, a new way of dealing with moving objects that interact with the fluid and a method for adding source and drain capabilities..

Denna uppsats handlar om översättning av personlig litterär stil och undersöker hur utvalda stildrag i romanen Special Topics in Calamity Physics har översatts till svenska. Romanen är skriven av den amerikanska författaren Marisha Pessl och gavs ut 2006. Den svenska översättningen Fördjupade studier i katastroffysik är gjord av Eva Johansson och gavs ut första gången 2007. Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka hur de två stildragen intertextualitet och figurativt språk har översatts från engelska till svenska och hur källtextens stil därigenom har överförts till måltexten.Materialet består av tre kapitel i källtexten och deras motsvarigheter i den svenska måltexten. I uppsatsen har exempel på intertextualitet i form av källhänvisningar till fiktiva litterära verk analyserats, liksom referenser till filmer, pjäser och annan populärkultur.

Ladugårdsmarken är en skola med hög energianvändning och det är främst elanvändningen som bidrar till de höga siffrorna. Eftersom byggnaden renoverades 1991 borde inte energianvändningen vara så hög som den är. Energiförlusterna beror till största delen på bristande isolering i byggnadens omslutande delar, dåligt U-värde på fönster och ett felaktigt konstruerat golvvärmesystem. This study was a degree in Master of Science in agriculture with specialization in animal science for the Department of animal nutrition and management at SLU. The subject was created by AS-Faktor, a small company for science and development within the company Lantmännen AB. It was a test of the effect of SPC (Special Processed Cereals) on induction of the endogenous protein AF (an antisecretory factor) in plasma and intestinal lumen in broilers. Previous results have shown positive effects on different intestinal diseases in pigs, horses, dogs as well as in humans. Beside the induction we also studied the effects on results in a conventional slaughter chicken production, including the ability of SPC to compete with or be affected by the coccidiostat, Salinomax.When diarrhoea occurs, it's because there is an imbalance between the secretion and the absorption and it can be caused by for example toxins.
