Libraries exist around us and for most of us they are a part of our every day life. But how often do we stop and think about their meaning?Libraries in fiction are usually not the center of the narrative, they play a role quietly in the background and offer a backcloth to the story. Yet they are a vital part of the story. Without them a big part of the magic in the stories would be lost.And what is their role in our lives? What do the libraries mean to the books they harbor, the readers who seek them out and society in which they have their axiomatic role?This essay?s focus is my story ?Between the shelves?, which is about the young girl Julia and the mysterious passageway she discovers in her local library.

Swedish goats are mainly held for cheese production and therefore, both milk quality and composition are of great importance for dairymen. Today, only few data exists on milk composition from Swedish dairy goats and the casein content is still unknown. One way to reduce the work load for goat farmers and increase animal welfare can be to keep goats and kids together for longer periods. The aims of this study were to investigate how milk yield and composition were affected when kids suckled their dams during 8 weeks, and to measure the casein content on farm level by a mid-infrared spectroscopy method, previously calibrated for goat milk. Lactating goats were kept in two different MIX- systems where the dams are both suckled and milked.

This essay examines how the meaning of an absurd play may be affected by how the reader understands the text. To address this problem I have turned to Wolfgang Isers theory of reception. Primarily I have taken on that the creation of meaning comes about when the reader fills in blanks in the text. I have also used Martin Esslins work on the theater of the absurd. I have mainly studied his research on Harold Pinter.

Wood has always been an important material for people, and it is used for many applications. As for example, fuel for cooking and heating houses, construction materials and for constructing means of transport. Since wood also is a material that with time biologically degrades due to activity by micro organisms and wood fungi it is important to find ways to protect and further lengthen the life span of the material when in service. One method is to decrease the amount of water in the material by impregnation with an hydrophobic oil. The Linotech method which uses only pure linseed oil is one such possible method. The aim of this study was to investigate the possibility to at the same time impregnate and stain/colour wood samples of pine and spruce by using the Linotech method.

This paper examines Hannah Ho?chs photomontage Schnitt mit dem Ku?chenmesser Dada durch die letzte weimaren bierbauchkulturepoche Deutschlands. The paper has as its aims to understand and analyze the predominated allegorical interpretation of Schnitt and to develop a logic how meaning is produced when a viewer look at Schnitts surface. The paper finds that the predominated interpretation has been arbitrarily created out of a specific spectator that acts in a specific context and conclude instead that the predominated interpretation should be understood as a potential interpretation by a potential viewer. The paper continues to create an understanding of Schnitt as a flatbed picture to establish that as a postulate and to use it in the later semiotic dissection of Schnitts surface.

Title: Improvisation ? a pedagogical perspective. This investigation studies how church musicians and pianists describe the use of improvisation in their teaching. The research questions focus on the relationship between improvisation and interpretation, the aim how to use improvisation and how this could be realized. To get the answer of these questions, I have interviewed two organists and two pianists, all excellent in their profession.

Syfte: Syftet med detta arbete har varit att utveckla mig som interpret genom att skaffa mig en bredare kunskap om hur dubbelgrepp och ackord nyttjas inom olika epoker av klassisk konstmusik skriven för viola.Frågeställning: Kan kännedom om dubbelgreppens (inklusive ackordspelets)musikaliska funktion, kompositörernas syfte med dem och de olika epokernas ideal för dubbelgreppsspel, hjälpa mig i mitt eget utförande och interpretation av dubbelgrepp?Metod: Min metod har varit att först välja ut ett antal dubbelgreppspassager ifrån olika epoker inom klassisk konstmusik och sedan intervjua ett antal olika teoriprofessorer och musiker om hur dessa bör interpreteras. Slutligen har jag övat på passagerna och gjort inspelningar av mina egna interpretationer av dessa..

Tyngdpunkten ligger på att klargöra Henzes syn på musikalisk interpretation ur sitt perspektiv som tonsättare och hans syn på konstnärlig frihet för de musiker som framför hans verk. Relationen mellan tonsättare och interpret i processen av tillblivelsen av ett verk studeras också i anknytning till Henzes egna resonemang kring interpretation och kompositionsprocessen. Uppsatsens huvudfrågor och delmoment kommer fortlöpande att belysas och ställas i relation till konkreta exempel i diskuterade form. Undersökningen är främst baserad på litteraturstudier. Litteraturen behandlar i huvudsak ämnena musikestetik och musikalisk interpretation, samt gitarren som instrument och dess repertoar från senare hälften av 1900-talet och framåt.

The main aim of this research is to survey the general colour scheme for private dwellings inVisby, built 1860?1930. During this period the visual appearance of the town of Visby changedsubstantially, since the increased local production of lime led to the plastering of many woodenbuildings. Which colour schemes were chosen for the different building types of the historic centreof Visby, and which colours came to dominate the time period? The methods used for answeringthese questions have partly been field studies on site and sampling of selected buildings, andpartly critical reading and observation of iconographic material (paintings, drawings, aquarelles,postcards and photographs).

As the information society becomes increasingly flooded with digital images, the need for efficient image retrieval systems increases as well. To handle the vast amounts of data involved, the indexing process needs to be run automatically, using content-based descriptors extracted directly from the digital image, such as colour composition, shape and texture features. These content-based image retrieval systems are often slow and cumbersome, and can appear confusing to an ordinary user who does not understand the underlying mechanisms. One step towards more efficient and user-friendly retrieval systems might be to adjust the weight placed on various descriptors depending on which image category is being searched for. The results of this thesis show that certain categories of digital images would benefit from having extra weight assigned to colour, texture or shape features when searching for images of that category..

Titel: Ett annat sätt att tänka - Brahms stråkkvartett i a-moll, Op. 51b. Baaserar på ett projekt som gjordes som en del av forskningsarbetet "mot ett konstmusikens utvidgade fält" vid Högskolan för scen och musik, hösten 2010. Projektet handlade om att i arbetet med kammarmusik i stråkkvartett tänka på ett alternativt sätt vad gäller interpretation, ensemblespel, sceniskt framförande och repetitionsteknik. Texten handlar om min upplevelse kring projektets arbete och vilka konsekvenser det medförde och hur det påverkade mig som musiker och människa.

The driver transforms the web page into a PDF and sends it to a server for interpretation.The problem is that PDF is not created for this sort of data transfer and makes the interpretation of data is very problematic.The goal of the thesis is to study whether there is a possibility to develop a browser add-on that can retrieve information on the customer's banking page and send it on to Speedledgers server for interpretation. My task was to implement a add-on for one of the three major browsers Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Microsoft Internet Explorer, and then study the possibility of implementing it to the other two by reading the documentation.What I concluded was that it is possible to implement for all the three browsers. However, the techniques will differ slightly when developing these add-ons.  .

This essay examines the processes of interpretations of hadith within a group of muslim women in Stockholm, Sweden. The readings and interpretation of hadith took place in a smaller mosque. The practices of interpretation was studied by the authour through observations and further discussed with informants in interviews. Meaningmaking processes which connected the hadith readings with the everyday life of the group participants; related to questions of moral and etics, relations between men and women and other specific issues, has been highlightened through the observations. The material from observations and interviews has been examined hermeneutically through a narrative model of analysis, revealing structures of interpretation which includes local perspectives as well as connections to a global islamic discourse.

Nya typer av krigföring, så som COIN-operationer (Counter insurgency), ställer nya krav på flygstridskrafterna. Utvecklingen av det bemannade stridsflyget har, om man jämför med UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), trots detta stått relativt stilla. Obemannat stridsflyg har samtidigt utvecklat förmågor som gör funktionen till en värdig konkurrent på det moderna slagfältet. Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka huruvida obemannat stridsflyg kan överta det bemannade stridsflygets plats inom ramen för COIN-operationer. Detta avser jag uppnå genom att undersöka hur väl de båda funktionerna svarar uppmot de krav som ställs på ett stridsflygplan i en operation med inslag av COIN.

The main purpose of a logotype is to harmonize with a company?s business concept and culture. This study is based on the receiver?s attitudes about three different logotypes - Volvo, Telia and Mcdonald's. It informs the reader about the importance of a logotype as a mean of communication and if the perceptions of the logotype harmonize with the profile of the company.
