This thesis examines the ongoing European political debate on the links between livestock production and climate change. In the end of 2006 the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) released their report Livestock?s long shadow, showing that livestock production represents some 18 % of the total global greenhouse gas emissions. The purpose of this paper is to explore the European Commission?s position and response to this question since the release of the report.Using Arne Naess? argumentation analysis, statements made by the Commission will be systematically organized and broken apart.

The purpose of this work is to investigate how 4-5 year olds perceptions of materials and material properties can be developed through an educational activity. The study is based on two interviews with eight children in that age category. The interviews were conducted before and after an activity where the children were first introduced to the subject by the tale of The three little pigs (Harris, 2009) and then given the opportunity to explore various materials related to the book. The kids got to experiment and explore how water affected materials and to compare different materials properties. The children were also attracted to build and create the material that was offered during the activity.

The future climate of Sweden is expected to become warmer in the future. This would be beneficial for vineyards and may lead to a greater area being allocated for wine production. The environmental impact concerning eutrophication from Swedish vineyards has not been evaluated before. In this study nutrient balances are constructed for four Swedish vineyards with the goal to estimate the out and in flows of nutrient in the systems for the year 2010. Interviews with focus on farming practices undertaken during the year are conducted with the farmers.

Undersökningen behandlar problem som tidigare forskning har uppmärksammat kring användandet av standarden XMI. XMI är avsedd för utbyte av modeller mellan modelleringsverktyg. Problem som uppmärksammats i användningen av XMI är att information om modeller inte alltid utbyts korrekt mellan verktyg. Detta kan resultera i att viktig information om modellerna går förlorad.Undersökningen har till syfte att undersöka huruvida det är möjligt att extrahera data från modeller sparade i XMI-format utan tillgång till DTD eller XML-schema. En sådan möjlighet skulle kunna användas för att rädda information om modeller som annars skulle gå förlorad.Den metod som har används för undersökningen är litteraturstudie, experiment och implementation samt hypotesprövning.

Ett av målen inom forskningsområdet artificiell intelligens är att simulera mänskliga egenskaper och beteenden i en maskin. Syftet med uppsatsen var att undersöka om det fanns något som efterliknade den mänskliga inlärningsförmågan i roboten AIBO ERS-210. Den teoretiska bakgrunden utgjordes av Skinners teori om operant betingning. Syftet besvarades genom ett experiment som gick ut på att undersöka hur AIBO?s benägenhet att lyda tre olika kommandon påverkades av belöning och bestraffning.

Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis) is not considered to be a native species to Swedish forests. It´s origin is the pacific coast of Northern America, an area that is dominated by a coastal climate which makes it likely to believe that it would be well suited for growing in the south-west of Sweden. This study aims to investigate the gain in production that can be reached by growing sitka spruce instead of Norway spruce (Picea abies) in the county of Halland. A regression model based on data from forest experiments was produced to explain the gain in production. This model was based on elevation and annual precipitation. The model was then used to create a map layer in arcGIS that shows the gain of volume in comparison to Norway spruce in percent. An analysis was carried out to find what share of the forestland in Halland county that fell into four different classes of production gain.

Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka förekomsten av eventuella användbarhetsproblem och brister på webbplatser som tillhandahåller tjänster för digital uthyrning av film. I de fall existensen är ett faktum, har vi haft för avsikt att undersöka vilka dessa användbarhets-problem är och om det är möjligt att bygga bort dem genom att applicera befintlig kunskap inom användbarhet och webbdesign. För att kunna uppnå detta syfte har vi genomfört kvalitativa experiment på tre av de dåvarande största webbplatserna som erbjöd denna tjänst. Experimentens resultat analyserades både kvalitativt och kvantitativt för att uppnå en högre trovärdighet. Vår studie visade att det inte bara råder en uppsjö användbarhetsproblem på dessa webbplatser, utan att många av dem är så pass allvarliga att de omöjliggör användning av webbplatsernas tjänster.

Aim: To examine the reaction of extreme preterm infants with regarding to body temperature and transepidermal water loss during skin-to-skin care according to Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) during the infant?s first week of life. Method: This was a descriptive quantitatively designed study, which was a pilot study within the framework of a larger project. Nine children, with a median gestational age of 24.91 weeks, were examined by measuring body temperature (axilla and skin temperature) as well as transepidermal water loss before, during and after KMC. Results: The study showed that skin temperature tended to rise during KMC, especially for those children who were nursed with KMC for more than 60 minutes.

Formaten ser väldigt olika ut, erbjuder olika funktioner, men används inte sällan till samma sak. Vilket som egentligen är snabbast finns det mycket åsikter om, men inte lika mycket testresultat. Den luckan skall detta arbete täcka.

Apart from recognizing and neutralizing threats, antibodies also have the ability to regulate immune responses against their specific antigen. IgG administered together with erythrocytes is well known to induce >99% suppression. This has been used to prevent haemolytic disease in new-borns since the 1960's, but the mechanism behind it is still not completely understood. The effect on the primary response is well established, but its influence on induction of immunological memory is still heavily debated. In this study adoptive cell transfer of splenocytes to irradiated mice was used to survey the effect IgG has on induction of immunological memory without disturbance from the primary IgG response.

Det finns många olika typer av instruktionsmetoder alla har de sina för och nackdelar. Detta arbete går in på animation som ett instruktionsverktyg, och jämför sedan detta med stillbilds samt filmade instruktioner, för att få fram relevanta resultat. Inom ramen för detta resoneras det kring teorier angående kognitiv lagring samt kognitiv belastning. Teorier så som mirror- neurons samt jämförelser av de tre tidigare nämnda instruktionsmetoderna blir också uppdagade. Ett mindre experiment utfördes också där animerade, stillbilds och filmade instruktioner jämfördes utifrån tre frågor.

Syftet med föreliggande examensarbete är att utveckla ett förslag på läromedel för lärare i ämnet religionskunskap i grundskolans senare år. Vi har i uppsatsen beskrivit vårt arbete utifrån ett religionspedagogiskt försök. Analys och utvärdering av detta experiment redovisas och likaså undervisningsmodellen i sin helhet. Modellen behandlar delar av kristendomen och grundar sig på diskussioner utifrån populärmusik samt estetiska moment. Vi har i litteraturöversikten fokuserat på de stöd vi kan för denna undervisningsmodell i läroplan och kursplan samt beskrivit relevant forskning på närliggande områden. Bland annat beskrivs elevers inställning till religion och livsfrågor.

The relationship between the government and organised interest in Sweden has changed. Formally considered as a good example of a corporatist state the country during the last 15 years or so experienced a more pluralistic system. This thesis is a qualitative study which discusses how interest groups seek to influence decision makers and policy thru lobbying and public opinion. It also examines how interest groups work with advertising and public relations in a changed climate of mass media. The main method of gathering material has been done thru interviews of representatives of different interest groups.The results of the study paint a picture where the interviewed organizations experience a vast competition in communication and information.

In this thesis, I have discussed which (herbacious) perennials that are sold most in the county of Norrbotten in the upper north of Sweden. Also discussed are the factors considering overwintering and factors that affect the chances of survival. The reason to the subject is that I m born and raised in Norrbotten and throughout the years I ve wondered why so many of the perennial flowerbeds look so similar. The purpose of the thesis is to give another approach to the composition of the garden by explaining some of the factors that controls the survival of plants. The information is gathered partly through interviews with plantshop personnel and partly by a literature study. The results of the interviews reveal that tradition and hardiness is the major reasons to the consumer s choice.

Samhällsgeografiskt miljöcentrum (Spatial Modelling Centre), SMC, bedriver forskning och utveckling av datorbaserade geografiska modeller. Syftet är att stödja uppdragsgivaren, Kulturgeografiska institutionen vid Umeå universitet, och andra med dessa verktyg. Med hjälp av den egenutvecklade modellen SVERIGE kan man göra experiment i full skala med en syntetisk population som motsvarar hela Sveriges befolkning. Detta examensarbetes syfte var att ta fram möjlighet till geografisk presentation för den grafiska klienten till SVERIGE. Detta som ett komplement till de tabeller som genereras vid körningar av modellen.
