The aim of this thesis is to compare the effectivity of using a natural language and a controlled vocabulary when performing subject searches in the bibliographic database LISA Library and Information Science Abstracts. 20 topics were created and for each topic two searches were made, one by using a query formulated with natural language directed to the abstract field and the other one by using a query formulated with descriptors from the thesaurus in LISA directed to the descriptor field. The average relative recall amounted to 64,8% for the AB-queries and 54% for the DE-queries. Failure analysis showed that the majority of the relevant documents not retrieved by AB-queries could have been retrieved with other query terms, such as synonyms. In a natural language there are many different ways of expressing a topic, and this tends to have a negative effect on retrieval effectivity.

Detta kandidatarbete utreder hur väl två operativsystems inbyggda brandväggar fungerar i symbios med en användares vanligaste tjänsteutnyttjande på Internet, samt att se hur likartade de är i sitt skydd från hot. De två operativsystemen som vi utgick ifrån var Microsoft Windows XP samt Red Hat Linux 8.0. Den hypotes vi arbetat kring lyder enligt följande: De två inbyggda brandväggarna är i stort likartade rörande skydd från hot på Internet och uppfyller användarnas tjänsteutnyttjande. De metoder vi använt, för att svara på vår frågeställning, har delats upp i ett funktionalitetstest och ett säkerhetstest. I funktionalitetstestet provades de vanligaste Internettjänsterna med den inbyggda brandväggen och ifall det uppstod några komplikationer eller ej. De två inbyggda brandväggarna genom gick i säkerhetstestet skannings- och svaghetskontroll via ett flertal verktyg. Genom resultatet kan vi konstatera att de inbyggda brandväggarna klarar av de vanligaste tjänsterna på Internet, men att en skillnad föreligger hos dem vad gäller exponeringen ut mot Internet.

Dagens samhälle strävar efter allt fler miljövänliga lösningar på energiförsörjning. Alla letar efter nya miljövänliga energikällor, men detta arbete går långsamt framåt samtidigt som behovet av energi ständigt ökar. Det är därför viktigt att man vidareutvecklar de miljövänliga lösningar som redan finns, så att de i så stor grad som möjligt täcker det ständigt ökade behovet. Fjärrvärme är ett kostnadseffektivt och miljövänligt alternativ som täcker en stor del av det behov av värme och varmvatten som finns inom både bostäder och industrier. Fjärrvärme har funnits i Sverige sen slutet på fyrtiotalet och har sedan dess vuxit, och täcker idag cirka 40 % av värmemarknaden i Sverige. Vi har i detta projekt studerat de system som idag används för övervakning och styrning av fjärrvärmenät. Vi har även satt oss in i hur det stora Absinthe-projektet ska göra energiproduktionen mer effektiv. Vår rapport är en del av forskningsprojektet Absinthe vars grundidé är att med hjälp av agentteknologi förbättra kontroll och övervakning av fjärrvärmenät. This essay describes how the author gradually gets a deeper understanding for his profession and the development of his professional skills, attitude and practice. The essay contains two main narratives representing examples from the author´s occupational practice, and through those narratives he tells how his practice alters and develops. These stories are also the basis for considering different aspects on how to get good models for practising a profession when you are a beginner, and how to manage ethical dilemmas. The starting point is when the author in the beginning of his career as a rural pastor is visiting a seriously ill parishioner at a province hospital. The course and the outcome of this call is surprising the young pastor, and the author tries to analyze the background to the outcome and assesses several possible explanations for the result of his call. The narrative is used to examine the attitude, the professional skills and the social and existential context for the author at that time. The patriarchal patterns in the parish are illuminated and questioned. In the second part of the essay the author investigates what will happen when pastoral cure transforms to psychotherapy, and how the author deals with phenomena in the therapeutical process such as idealization and secondary traumatization. On basis of texts written by among others Ingela Josefson, Fredrik Svenaeus, Christian Nilsson and Ulla Ekström von Essen the author seeks explanation for the development of his practical knowledge. Context. In today?s society we use smart cards in many areas, NFC is a smart card technology that allows contactless interaction between a reader and the tag, the tag is often in the form of a card. NFC can be used for various payment methods or as access card to a building which makes life easier. In previous studies, the technique has proven to be weak to attacks using an NFC reader connected to a computer.

The purpose of this Master Thesis is to compare two American novel suites for young women, Louisa May Alcott?s Little Women and Good Wives to Ann Brashares series of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. The social status of women and children in the US during the 19th century is analyzed and compared historically and literary with the situation 130 years later.The main question is, what differences exist in the books and is there a connection between the changes in society and literature?The method of this Master Thesis is to make a comparative narratological analysis placed in a historical context.The result shows that the multiple character remains and enhances the identification process. Motherhood in the works of Alcott is prominent, whereas in the works of Brashares, sisterhood replaces motherhood.In Alcott?s US during the 19th century, Christian faith was in the foreground.

The aim of this Master's thesis is to investigate the importance of subject expertise for academic librarians in Skåne. Virtually all librarians in Sweden have studied other subjects besides library and information science (LIS) before becoming librarians, and in this thesis we ask what happens to this expertise. How many librarians can be said to have a good background in the subjects they are working with? Do academic librarians use their subject knowledge on the job? Does it make a difference what subject one has studied when it comes to job opportunities? What do librarians themselves think of the importance of subject expertise? We are also interested in finding out how subject expertise fits in with the growing professionalization of librarianship.A quantitative questionnaire was sent to 195 academic librarians at four different institutes of higher education in Skåne. A total of 107 librarians answered questions about their LIS education, subject background and current job as well questions on how important they perceived a subject background to be for themselves and for academic librarians in general.

Sverige är antagligen det land där lagförarbetena åtnjuter starkast ställning i världen. Varför Sverige är så annorlunda är en fråga som det inte har reflekterats över eller diskuterats om i någon större utsträckning i den offentliga debatten. En intressant frågeställning som aktualiseras angående förarbeten är emellertid frågan om maktdelning mellan den lagstiftande, verkställande och dömande makten, dvs. riksdag, regering och domstolarna.

In the school subject of the natural sciences it is imperative that the students are given opportunities to ?talk science?, since the dialogues that occur in the classroom have a significant importance for the students? abilities to engage in meaning-making in their learning process. Hence, the student and teacher interaction in the classroom and the feedback given there play a significant role in the students? learning process. The aim of this study is to contribute to the development of formative assessment tools that can mediate the students? meaning-making in natural sciences subjects in upper-secondary school.

This Bachelor Thesis in the area of Computer Science and Work Science describes the process of design and development of an IT-tool between the municipality of Ron-neby and TietoEnator a development and consultancy firm, the Gothenburg office. The thesis focuses mainly on the cooperation between the consultant designer and the local municipal. Through cooperation, the organisation is incorporated into the tool and the tool is incorporated into the organisation. Concepts that are central in this thesis are design, cooperation and tailoring. A question raised is, if distance work and extensive cooperation might be a good way of working in the process of design and development, when the organisation is being incorporated into the tool.

Utvidgningen av Europeiska unionen medför att allt fler aktörer måste samarbeta i syfte att uppnå och utveckla en stark och gemensam europeisk marknad för varor, tjänster, personer och kapital. I och med att antalet länder i gemenskapen ökar uppstår också allt större klyfter mellan så väl medlemsstaternas sociala förhållanden som nationella lagstiftning. Detta innebär att mer komplexa förhållanden växer fram som kräver allt större anpassning hos de enskilda medlemsstaterna, vilket genererar problem. Det ligger varken i Europeiska unionens eller i medlemsstaternas intresse att den fria rörligheten medför några större ekonomiska problem för arbetsmarknadens aktörer. I Vaxholmskonflikten har dock problemet med nationella skillnader aktualiserats utan att den nationella domstolen anser sig kunna finna en gemenskapsrättsligt godtagbar lösning.

Kommunikationsteknikens framväxt och en allt mer intensifierad konkurrens har bidragit till att marknadsföringen tagit en mer intensiv och närgången form. Genom att rikta reklamen direkt till den potentiella kunden har det också blivit nödvändigt att behandla diverse personuppgifter. Ett medium som blivit viktigt för marknadsföraren är Internet och att därigenom skicka direkt marknadsföring till e- postadress, en marknadsföringsmetod som har kommit att bli tämligen ifrågasatt då den på olika sätt ansetts kränka den personliga integriteten. Inom området har olika EG- direktiv skapas för att motverka denna risk för kränkning som kan uppstå i samband med markandsföring och den teknikutveckling som skett och fortfarande sker. Genom Sveriges medlemskap i EU har således de nationella lagarna kommit att påverkas.

Denna uppsats undersöker hur receptionen av The New Look såg ut i svenska mode- och damtidskrifter åren 1947-1948, med syftet att se om denna centrala modehändelse lämnat några spår i den svenska samtida modejournalistiken, samt hur den i så fall mottogs och tolkades. Metoden är en receptionshistorisk, tematiskt upplagd textanalys. Undersökningen visar att de svenska modeskribenterna rapporterade om The New Look mellan våren 1947 till hösten 1948, i första hand under den svenska termen ?den nya linjen?. Resultatet visar att detta efterkrigstidsmode snarare sågs som ett allmänt parismode och sattes i samband med flera av Paris modeskapare, varav Christian Dior sågs som en av de främsta ? detta skiljer sig något från bilden av The New Look internationellt, i den traditionella modehistoriska litteraturen.

This thesis aims towards an understanding of information systems and subject representation in relation to academic disciplines. This is achieved by comparing how a discipline, History of science and ideas, represents itself compared with the subject representation of its dissertations in an information system, LIBRIS. The point of departure for this thesis is the domain analytic view of Hjorland which states that the quality in information seeking is enhanced if the subject representation considers the contexts in which documents are produced and used. The importance of concepts such as domain and discipline is discussed. The disciplines view of itself is established by the study of articles written by scholars in the discipline, by how the discipline presents itself on the homepages of five university institutions and by the examination of titles and keywords given to dissertations in the discipline.
