In 2008 USA was the one country that had the most people behind bars, both in numbers andpercentage, 2,3 million people. Of all the male convicts that were being held in custody aroundthe country's different detention facilities, thousands of them were being exposed to sexualabuse, such as rape. This essay will try to understand why there hasn?t been a bigger public outcryin the American community concerning this. It does so by studying the view of rape as a crime ofgender, by examining religion in USA and the Christian view on homosexuality, looking into thepublics thoughts on prisons and the penalty's purpose plus studying theory's of the publics viewon the prisoner.

Abstract (magisteruppsats, 61-80p)This paper is concerned with the national sentiments in the Federal State of Germany,regarding the east- and west-German cleavages, since the unification of the country in 1990.The point of departure is the nationalistic theory crafted together by the scholar AnthonyDavid Smith, which implies an ethno-symbolistic perspective on the dynamics of nations.The main question in the paper is to which extent you can consider the East- and WestGermans to be a unity, considering the past and the forty-year-division. For this reason theauthor basically uses two different sources: scientific books and the German journal DerSpiegel.Founded on Smith's theory, the study contains a broad explanation for national identities incontemporary states, which ranges from pre-modern times, when the ethnic communities werecreated, to the national world of today.The discontinuity of the German case, represented by the separation 1949-90 of the Germannation into two entirely different societies, makes it possible to draw conclusions about whichfactor that has the pivotal impact on national identities.The result turns out to be that the national historical core-values and symbols of the currentGerman state and nation are more profound than the splitting national sentiments. The Common Agricultural Policy has been a burning topic for debate for severaldecades. According to the CAP:s opponents it's effects include pollution, market distortionsand not least a huge expense for the European union.In this study we seek to explain why the CAP has remained almostunreformed since it's constitution in the 1950:s. The means by which we do so isa case study where we analyze the CAP by using three different theories; liberalinter-governmentalism, realistic trade theory and new institutionalism.In the final chapter we conclude that the theories complement each other. Newinstitutionalism explains the rigidity of the CAP. The liberal perspective explainsthe origin and the logic behind the policy whereas the realistic point of view putsthe policy in the light of an international economic theory and recognizes nationalpolicy makers roll in the inflexibility of the CAP..

I uppsatsen undersöks förutsättningar och möjligheter för att genom Öresund Networks medlemsnätverk kommunicera varumärket Öresund till externa målgrupper. Nätverksmedlemmars uppfattningar och behov analyseras utifrån varumärkes- och nätverksteori. Det empiriska material som legat till grund för analysen har samlats in med kvalitativa intervjuer.Resultaten visar att varumärket har en positiv image hos nätverksmedlemmarna och att det finns goda förutsättningar för att kommunicera varumärket genom nätverket. Nätverket utnyttjas dock inte till sin fulla potential och bör anpassas efter nätverksmedlemmarnas behov. Engagemanget för varumärket måste också höjas för att skapa ett starkt varumärke vilket är en förutsättning för att nätverksmedlemmarna ska kommunicera varumärket.

En betydande del av Sveriges nationella ungdomspolitik syftar till att ge ungdomar större inflytande över samhällsutvecklingen. De målformuleringar som staten skapat genom bland annat regeringens liggande ungdomspolitiska proposition, har intresserat oss. Denna uppsats behandlar de normer som staten, genom olika dokument och skrifter, konstruerar för hur ungdomars politiska engagemang bör organiseras och tas till vara.Med hjälp av kvalitativ textanalys har vi sökt identifiera dessa normer i vårt utvalda material, för att sedan på en hög abstraktionsnivå diskutera vad dessa kan få för effekter för det demokratiska styrelsesättet. Vår slutsats är att det saknas en medvetenhet om de vidare implikationer som den nationella ungdomspolitiken får, och vi efterlyser därmed en bredare diskussion i ämnet..

During the last decades the Swedish local party systems have gone through some considerable changes. The number of parties present in local party systems have increased and in some cases even doubled. This makes coalition building between parties complex and parties will be forced to rethink their coalition strategies and adjust to the new circumstances. Theoretically, coalition building has often been considered and applied to national data and there have been just a few attempts to develop and theoretically explain coalitions on a local level. Thus the aim of this paper is to use different theoretical approaches to local data to test the significance of traditional coalition theories.

Kina är idag en av världens största handelsnationer. Sedan ordförande Maos död 1976 har landet öppnats upp för relationer med västvärlden. Handelsmässigt sett har Kina nått en större frihet. Syftet med denna fallstudie är att kartlägga graden av politisk liberalisering i Kina, med grundantagandet att liberalisering utgör vägen mot målet ? demokrati.

Vår uppsats diskuterar hur skolan och föreningar bidrar med en demokratisk fostran av barn och ungdomar. Vi driver tesen att föreningar kan komplettera skolan i att förmedla demokratiska ideal. Med demokratiska ideal menar vi värnandet om alla människors lika värde och förmågan att samarbeta med andra i en demokratisk anda. Vi har utgått från Dahl's institutionella demokratikriterier, den deliberativa demokratiskolan och det sociala kapitalet.Vi har använt oss av tidigare empirisk forskning kring hur skolan respektive föreningar förvaltar den teori vi utgått från. Vi har sedan jämfört resultaten för att se vari olikheterna ligger och om föreningar kompletterar skolan.Resultatet vi fått fram är en verifiering av vår hypotes.

Sexuella rättigheter är ett nytt område som yrkar på ett erkännande som mänskliga rättigheter. Genom uppsatsen utforskar jag hur dess rättighetsanspråk har förts fram i den akademiska debatten.Premissen för uppsatsen är klyftan mellan rättigheter i teori och praktik som enligt vissa författare beror på att mänskliga rättigheters politiska diskurs osynliggörs. Jag har analyserat vad den politiska diskursen inrymmer och innebäri förhållande till sexuella rättigheter. Därmed vill jag bidra med en kritisk inblick i utmaningarna, motsättningarna och möjligheterna i konstruktionen av sexuella rättigheter. Jag ämnar även argumentera för att rättigheters politiska diskurs belyser sociala och ekonomiska kontexter som i sin tur påverkar hur sexuella rättigheter framställs inom den internationella arenan..

Genom en textanalys av författaren Maja Lundgrens bok Myggor och Tigrar undersöker uppsatsen skönlitterära texters möjlighet att förändra kvinnors positioner och potentialer. The purpose of this essay was to study how surroundings form young peoples gender and where gender patterns are maintained. This was done by interviewing 12 students from two advanced classes at a comprehensive school in a small town in the southern parts of Sweden. The students where divided into four groups. Two groups with three boys in each, and two groups with three girls in each. We used R.W.

The purpose of this essay has been to study if the social services adjust the choice of institution to every juvenile's need of care. If the choice of institution isn't adjusted to the juveniles the institutional placement can become a way to store them rather then treat them.To accomplish the purpose of the essay we have interviewed ten social workers with different worktitles and positions. We have delimited the study to three swedish communities with varying sizes. We have analyzed the material with Bourdieus theory of "field" and "doxa" and Antonovskys theory "a sense of coherence" (SOC).We came to the conclusion that the social service adjusted the choice of institution to the juveniles needs as much as possible. Although there are a couple of factors that some times makes the best choices impossible.
