The purpose with this paper is to examine if tertiary education and democracy have an impact on economic growth. In order to decide how democratic the examined countries are the democracy index constructed by The Economist is used. Besides the two central theories the purpose is also to explain why these variables could affect growth and to examine direct and indirect effects. Indirect effects mean that one variable affects another variable which thereafter has an impact on economic growth.34 OECD countries are compared in order to investigate whether education and democracy are strongly correlated with BNP per capita. Therefore a statistical design is used as method.The empirical results suggest that there is significant correlation between democracy and economic growth.

I found out that chatting, music/movies, searching for information and using the Internet for entertainment is what most of the participants spent the most time on while using the Internet.

This essay is a study of the market strategies and situations in the telephone business. Our problem was to examine the telecom companies´ strategies to stay competitive and cope with the new VoIP technology. We chose to do a qualitative study and four telephone interviews were made with Swedish and Dutch companies. We investigated three different categories of companies in the market; industry leaders, cable companies and Broadband companies to get a broad view of the market. The theory chapter is based on different strategies that companies have to or can apply to get ahead, stay or survive in a hypercompetition.

With the advance in computer and network technologies, multimedia systems and Internet applications are becoming more popular. As Broadband network is prevailing, more clients are able to watch streaming videos or to play multimedia data over the Internet in real-time. Consequently, there is an increasing demand in the Internet for streaming video systems. As the run-time environment of such applications tends to be dynamic, it is imperative to handle transient overloads effectively. The goal of this work is to develop an algorithm that would provide a robust and controlled behavior of the video system so that important data is delivered on time to the video clients.

Sveaverken is a company who manufactures products and equipment for the modern farm enterprise within grain, pork and horse businesses. A large share of Sveaverken's turnover depends on the role as a subcontractor for Delaval within the areas ventilation, manure handling and feeding systems. Sveaverken wants to investigate the possibility to increase sales by establishing new sales channels, for example e-commerce This thesis is an analysis of the Swedish farmers use of internet, attitudes towards e-commerce and Sveaverken's interest within this area. There is also a minor economic analysis of the cost of establishing the e-commerce site. The study focuses on farmers who are potential customers to Sveaverken within Sweden. To examine the farmers opinions about internet and e-commerce a questionnaire was developed and sent out in November 2006, to 500 farmers of which 45% answered. The results show that the average age of the farmers was 42,5 years.

Globaliseringen ökar och företag använder sig i allt större utsträckning av internationella leverantörer. Fördelarna med detta är många, bland annat kan man uppnå kostnadsfördelar och få ett större produktutbud att välja mellan. Men det medför även utmaningar som företagen måste handskas med, osäkerheter gällande leverans, kvalitet och även leverantörens kapacitet inom olika områden är svår att bedöma i förhand. Trots dessa utmaningar och svårigheter är det snarare en regel än undantag att använda sig av leverantörer i lågkostnadsländer.Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka vilka faktorer som ligger bakom företags beslut att använda sig av leverantörer i lågkostnadsländer samt vilka kriterier som är avgörande vid valet av dessa leverantörer.Studien är genomförd med en kvalitativ metod och empirin samlades in genom åtta semistrukturerade intervjuer med lika många företag. Företagen är detaljhandelsföretag och använder sig alla av leverantörer i Kina.

This thesis was conducted at Mälardalen University in Västerås and Härjeåns Nät AB, mainly in Sveg. Härjeåns Nät AB is a network company that delivers electricity in Härjedalen municipality, Ånge Municipality, Ragunda and Bräcke municipality. The maintenance and dismantling of electricity and Broadband networks generates a lot of waste. The purpose of this work is to present proposals on the management of the waste. The goal is that all of Härjeåns offices should have equal management for the waste and an overview of how to manage the various wastes.

Globalt sett är Sverige ett föregångsland inom informationsteknologi. Såväl nationell som internationell statistik visar på växande bredbandstillgång och alltmer frekvent användning av tjänster på Internet. Sådana siffror utgår emellertid ofta från ett leverantörsperspektiv och teoretiska prestanda. Detta examensarbete kartlägger faktisk tillgång till bredband i Sverige, samt utvärderar dess implikationer för fortsatt utveckling av Internetanvändningen ur ett ekonomiskt perspektiv. Dessutom analyseras framtidspotentialen för nuvarande accesstekniker i landet.Datastudien innefattar de trådbundna accessteknikerna xDSL, kabel-tv och fiber-LAN samt ett antal trådlösa tekniker, så kallat mobilt bredband.

För närvarande läses elmätare av en gång per år, detta leder till att kunders elräkning baseras på ett schablonbaserat belopp. Enligt riksdagens proposition 2002/03:85 skall dock alla elkunder, senast fr.o.m. 1 juli 2009, faktureras efter faktisk elförbrukning varje månad. Detta har lett till en stor marknad för fjärravlästa elmätare som nu är ett måste för att kunna utföra den tätare avläsning som krävs. E.ON ES Sverige AB som är beställare av detta examensarbetet har specialiserat sig på att installera, underhålla och läsa av fjärravlästa elmätare åt nätägare.
