The main purpose of this Master?s thesis is to develop an understanding of why non-users do not use public libraries by studying their information and culture habits and their relationship to public libraries. One of the motivating factors behind this choice is the lack of earlier research on the subject, particularly qualitative research. The theoretical framework is stratified into three associated levels with Brenda Dervin?s sense-making theory on an individual level, Marianne Andersson?s and Dorte Skot-Hansen?s model of the roles of public libraries on an institutional level and Pierre Bourdieu?s theoretical apparatus on a social level.

In this essay we discuss how the decentralisation of the Swedish school system affects the concept of ?equal opportunity school?. We investigate the development from both a historical and contemporary perspective, in order to identify changes over time. The central question of the essay is how the decentralisation of the school system affects the teacher?s perspective and experiences of the government?s framework about ?equal opportunity school?? The analysis is based on four qualitative, semi structured, direct interviews with respondents both active in municipal schools situated in the Malmö council and with more than thirty years of experience in their profession. Our analysis of the interviews show that both respondents experience the overall situation in the schools has deteriorated from an equal opportunity aspect since the decentralisation of the school system.

The aim of this master thesis is to examine how female identity is formed in two novels and two short stories from the 1880?s. As a framework we rely on the method outlined by Pierre Bourdieu when he approaches the cultural and social worlds through the concept of fields. The purpose of this paper is to view Karlstad Municipality and their financial support to non-profit organizations within equestrian sports. Despite the varying representatives of various equestrian sports in Karlstad, there seems to be a single beneficiary within the sport when it comes to financial support from the municipality. The policies and plans concerning cultural development are directly compared to the Karlstad Municipality and its contribution to these organizations within equestrian sports. Through interviews and reports I have studied the process of financial support from the Karlstad municipality using an intersectionality theory based on Nina Lykkes guide on gender studies and feminist theory. Pierre Bourdieu?s theories on field, habitus and capital are also used as a method to enhance the understanding of equestrian sports and its role in modern Swedish society. The conclusion is that the Karlstad Municipality is, for a several of reasons, promoting non-profit organizations within equestrian sports, which are operating as riding schools.

Syftet med föreliggande studie är att analysera Bourdieus teori om den sociala och politiska reproduktionen i relation till det senmoderna svenska utbildningssystemet. Uppsatsens tes är att denna reproduktion begränsades och reglerades under den svenska välfärdsstaten, där skolan sågs som ett centralt verktyg för att motverka samhällets klasshierarki, men att den idag frigjorts genom modernitetens radikaliserade processer. Med utgångspunkt i den dialektiska metoden, samt i teorier om rationalisering, marknadsstyrning, individualisering och avpolitisering, utreds giltigheten i Bourdieus teori samt den senmoderna reproduktionens förändrade uttryck. Ett urval av de senaste decenniernas utbildningspolitiska reformer och läroplaner utgör det primära empiriska materialet, men uppsatsen diskuterar och kompletteras även av tidigare studier i ämnet. Analysen av den senmoderna utbildningskonceptionen visar på en ökad rationalisering vad gäller styrning och kunskapssyn, samt en normalisering av och anpassning till marknadsprinciper i utbildningssystemet.

SammanfattningStudiens syfte är att förstå och förklara hur 11§ MBL, dvs. hur den primära förhandlingsskyldigheten fungerar på en svensk högskola.Studiens teori bygger på fem element som är grundlägganda byggstenar för att betraktas som en formell organisation, vilka är; regler, medlemmar, övervakning, sanktioner och hierarki. Följande element har applicerats på en organisations medbestämmandeförhandlingar, i syfte att skapar en fördjupad förståelse av fenomenet medbestämmande -förhandlingens tillämningsområde.Den metod som jag använt mig av är den fenomenologiska ansatsen, för att skapa en vardagsförståelse av de handlingar och sociala processer som informanterna präglas av. Detta görs genom att försöka förstå och beskriva informanternas upplevelse av medbestämmandeförhandlingar i den aktuella organisationen.Det insamlade empiriska materialet baseras på semistrukturerade kvalitativa intervjuer med personalchef och biträdande personalchef på den undersökta organisationen, för att få deras syn på lagrummets tillämpning. Jag har även genomfört två deltagande observationer, då jag deltagit under organisationens medbestämmandeförhandlingar.

Syftet med denna uppsats är att under perioden 1963-2004 undersöka hur uttalade och outtalade teoretiska kriterier för värdefull film i de olika filmavtalen omsatts i praktiken genom Svenska Filminstitutets (SFI) produktionsstödsgivning. Den teoretiska utgångspunkten utgörs av Pierre Bourdieus teorier om fält och olika former av kapital. Huvuddelen av undersökningen är en omfattande klassificering av sammanlagt 421 svenska filmer under totalt 25 av SFI:s verksamhetsår, utspridda över hela undersökningsperioden. Vissa komponenter/aktörer i respektive film ? regissör, manusförfattare, skådespelare, samt eventuell förlaga ? har klassificerats och kvantifierats utifrån en bedömning om relevans i förhållande till Bourdieus fältteori.

För att utveckla landsbygden behövs fungerande verktyg att arbeta utifrån. Lokalekonomisk analys, LEA, är ett sådant verktyg som funnits i snart femton års tid. En Lokalekonomisk analys ger statistik över exempelvis in- och utflyttning, befolkning och disponibel inkomst. Verktyget beställs och köps av Statistiska centralbyrån. Som med de flesta verksamheter behöver LEA uppdateras för att kunna bemöta de behov som finns och anpassas till den teknik som är tillgänglig i dagsläget.

Today, the definition of literature has changed. Walter J. Ong talks about the secondary spoken language that has surfaced as a result of new technical innovations to our writing tools. This also transforms our attitude towards literature and we can see a return to literature based on verbal characteristics. According to Hans Hertel the verbal renaissance reflects a modern man need to come closer to each other and create togetherness.

This study examines the cultural place and status of video and computer games in the Swedish public library. Using works on popular culture and the theories of Pierre Bourdieu, this study employs quantitative methods, as well as textual analysis, to analyze the results of an online questionnaire with 19 questions focusing on selection criteria, shelf placement, perceived competence, as well as reasoning for having or not having these games in the library. 286 out of the 440 libraries contacted is participating in the study, and the libraries consist exclusively of public libraries in Sweden that are found in the database of the Royal Library.The results of this study show that a larger number of libraries than previously indicated have started to provide electronic games to their patrons. At the same time, patterns in the data and comments suggests that these games in many cases still do not enjoy the same level of cultural recognition as other media. Indicative of this is the way most libraries seem to focus on the medium being exclusively for their young patrons, with seem-ingly very little in the way of investment for adults.

Child poverty in Sweden as a social phenomenon has been highlighted in various debates and in poverty research during the recent years. Children's economic vulnerability has gotten more place in research. An interest to highlight child poverty awakened and this study highlights child poverty through a resource perspective among children in preschools. This study aims to examine how preschool teachers perceive the child's assets to various resources as well as how preschool teachers perceive the impact of the preschool where they work on children's access to these resources. The study is qualitative and has used interviews as a tool.

I media förs en debatt om var lärande bör ske samt hur det ska gå till. Utomhusundervisning kan vara en tänkbar lärandemetod. På senare tid har det blivit allt mer inne att vara ute bland skolans lärare. Denna studies syfte är att belysa vilka uppfattningar lärare har om undervisning utomhus och dess betydelse för elevers lärande. Eftersom dagens skola är målstyrd så är det upp till varje lärare att själv avgöra hur undervisningen ska utformas.

Syftet med studien var att kartlägga föräldrarna till de barn som 2012 blev uttagna till Västervikslägret i fotboll, det första steget i svensk fotbolls nationella selektionssystem. Vi ville undersöka föräldrarnas utbildnings- och idrottskulturella kapital som grundar sig i habitusbegreppet (Bourdieu, 1984), hur föräldrarnas engagemang i sina barns idrottande ser ut, samt diskutera vilken roll föräldrarna kan ha för barnens idrottsutveckling. Många idrottare uppger att föräldrarna har haft en väldigt stor betydelse för deras idrottande (Peterson, 2011). Däremot saknas kunskapen om vad det i praktiken är föräldrarna gör och vilka de är. Studien är byggd på en surveyundersökning där kvantitativ data har samlats in genom en enkätundersökning och urvalsgruppen var föräldrar till de ungdomar som 2012 deltog på Västervikslägret i fotboll, det första steget i uttagningsprocessen till ett första ungdomslandslag.

This master thesis deals with the Nobel Prize and highbrow culture as portrayed in Karin Alvtegen?s Skugga. From a sociology of literature perspective, it aims to analyze how these highbrow themes can be understood in relation to Alvtegen?s position in the literary field as a lowbrow crime novelist. The method used is hermeneutic, and the analysis is based on two theoretical models: Pierre Bourdieu?s cultural sociology, and the postmodern tradition where the distinction high/low and its traditional hierarchy is said to be decomposed.

The aim of this thesis is to study the market for fantastic fiction in Sweden, focusing on the minor publishers and their relationship with the three major publishing groups. The fantastic fiction in Swedish today are generally dominated by bestselling anglo-american authors, especially at the major publishers. The selection of fantastic fiction that is not originally in English and that diverges from the classic, epic high fantasy is often provided by minor publishers. By researching the range of fantastic fiction in Sweden today, and combining that research with qualitative interviews with informants from five minor publishers and Sweden's largest book shop for fantastic fiction, I wish to examine if the minor publishers provide an important alternative for Swedish readers of fantastic fiction. I also intend to investigate whether those publishers actively try to broaden the Swedish market and if they see themselves as a complement and an alternative rather than competing with the major publishers.This is a study in sociology of literature, focusing on a literary genre that is generally regarded as popular or trivial literature.
