Inventering av processvattenbalans : fastställande av fjärrvärmedistributionens läckage inom Vattenfall Värme Uppsala AB
Heat is distributed to the district heating customers through pipes with water as a heat carrier. The district heating system is complex. To decide what is leakages from the district heating net versus what is the water consumption of the plant, is difficult.
Therefore, the purpose of this master thesis is to establish a model where the district heating net?s leakages but also the water consumption of the plant can be followed
daily. The project is performed at Vattenfall´s district heating power plant in Uppsala.
Information is gathered through discussions, drawings of the plant and guided tours of the plant.

The limit for mercury in fish, set by health authorities, is exceeded in about half of the lakes in Sweden. Methyl mercury (MeHg) is the most toxic form of mercury and accumulates in fish. Therefore transformation of inorganic mercury (Hg) to methylmercury (MeHg) is an important process that we need to understand in order to possibly counteract the negative effects of mercury in the environment.
The seasonal dynamics of mercury biogeochemistry is likely of great importance for the accumulation of MeHg in the aquatic food web. In thesis the chemical speciation and transformations of Hg and MeHg in bottom waters and sediments is followed in Ängessjön, a small lake located on the east coast in the middle of Sweden. The lake is not directly affected by any industrial pollution and concentrations of Hg in the sediment reflect the atmospheric deposition in this area, as well as processes taking place along the hydrological pathways from soil to lake.
Samples from sediment, bottom- and streamwater were collected in average every second month during the period Feb.

Drinking water from drilled wells has a high content of iron and other minerals in many places in Sweden. Questions about the association between the quality of drinking water and the health of dairy cows are regulary asked both by advisers and dairy farmers. There are so far not many studies published about the relevance for high iron content in water and dairy cow health and production. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate if there is a connection between the iron content in water and the health of dairy cows. Initially a literature study was made about iron and it´s function in ruminants.

The purpose of the examination work have been to find out if there are any means you can work with to find out when its time to start irrigation, how they works and if they are credible. In Sweden there is not many means for decide when it?s time to irrigate and how much water you should appear. Swedish farmers think they have so much experience that they don?t need techniques like this.
Autumn water sources for understory vegetation and fungi in a boreal forest : an evaluation using stable isotopes
Understory vegetation and fungi are regarded as important ecological drivers of processes like productivity and nutrient cycling in boreal forests. Whilst those processes are linked to soil water content, relatively little is known about the sources of soil water for these forest
components. During early autumn in boreal forests, temperature falls and large events of rain are frequent which may influence soil water availability. To better understand the autumn plant-soil-fungi water relationships in this ecosystem, I used stable isotopes techniques in this

The purpose of this essay is to illustrate the debate of water politics and privatisation of water distribution. My method is debate analysis and qualitative idea analysis and for my essay I used three books that try to persuade the reader that his or her idea is the best for this water crisis. My main question is to illustrate the debate concerning water privatisations. I will also look at the arguments for or against privatisations and finally determine how the authors think the state should act towards this subject. The first book I used was Vandana Shivas ?Water Wars? that when published started an international discussion about the water privatisations.
Implementeringen av jämställdhetsintegrering i EU - En studie om problem i implementeringen av strategin och förutsättningar för ett effektivt genomförande med fokus på perspektiven top-down, bottom-up och genus
This essay focuses on the implementation of the strategy gender mainstreaming in the European Union and the member states. It starts to identify problems connected to the implementation process and recognizes significant prerequisites for an efficient implementation of the strategy. The main problems and prerequisites are: political will, governance and structure and knowledge about gender equality. The empirical material consists of reports from the EU that touches upon gender mainstreaming and gender equality. The problems and prerequisites will be analysed in relation to the governance perspectives top-down and bottom-up and expert bureaucratic and participative democratic and gender and feminism.

Varför är Bivarödsånsvatten så brunt?
The river Bivaröd is one of the river Helgeån tributaries which has the highest and the fastest increase in water colour. The reason behind this increase is unclear but several factors have been suggested to affect this pattern. In this work, I studied the role of land use, iron and precipitation for water colour increase in river Bivaröd for the period 1976 -2011. Data from a field study along with data from SRK for river Helgeån were used for the analyses. The results showed that both water colour and iron concentration increase and that there is a strong correlation between these two variables.
När gräsrötter blir eliter - En problematiserande studie av lokalt "bottom-up"-fredsbyggande och dess effekter i Somaliland
Denna uppsats är en problematiserande studie av fredsbyggandet i Somaliland efter självständighetsutropet 1991, där fokus läggs på att undersöka huruvida detta fredsarbete var så lokalt förankrat och ?bottom-up? som man efter en första anblick kan ana i och med utvecklingen ?självständighetsutropande-fred-demokratisering?. För att studera detta har jag valt att bland annat titta på vilka strukturer som rådde gällande fredsarbetet, bland annat utifrån kvinnors roller och deltagande. Vidare görs en bedömning huruvida fredsbyggandet i efterhand kan sägas vara lyckat eller inte och effekten av Somalilands status som icke-erkänd kvasistat gällande fredsbyggande undersöks. Teoretiskt sett grundar sig uppsatsen bland annat på Lederachs tankar om fredsbyggande, och resultatet har framkommit utifrån en kvalitativ litteraturstudie där begreppshistorik utgjort en viktig del av metoden.
Klimatanpassningen i Sverige, Finland och Holland : Styrningens uppbyggnad, problem och möjligheter
För att möta kommande klimatförändringar behövs klimatanpassning vilket innebär att skydda samhället mot klimatförändringarna och ta tillvara eventuella möjligheter. Olika länder har tillämpat olika sätt att styra anpassning, vilka generellt kan delas in i top-down och bottom-up styrning. Dessa styrformer generar olika problem och möjligheter för implementering. Till exempel så brister ofta styrning genom top-down implementeringen på lokal nivå, medan bottom-up ofta försvåras av att lokala aktörer saknar resurser i implementering. I denna litteratur och dokumentsbaserade studie undersöker vi aktuell forskning och policydokument för att med stöd av Environmental Governance-teorin, klargöra styrningsformernas uppbyggnad, effektivitet, problem och möjligheter.
Samkörning mellan värmepumpar och fjärrvärme : Bostadsrättsföreningen Bogården
This diploma work covers an investigation over the heat - and hot water systems of thetenant-owner's association, Bogården. The heat - and hot water needs of Bogården aresatisfied by both district heating as well as three heat pumps. Implemented investigationshows that the heat pumps are not used in a profitable way. Apart from that, the reservepossibilities are small. There is also a risk of the growth of Legionella bacterium in thehot water system.Since the heat pumps are already installed, HSB-Gävleborg (responsible for Bogården)has a wish to investigate possible proposed actions for optimization of existing plant.After completed investigation, a new proposed action is presented.
Kartläggning och analys - av logistiken på ett mindre tillverkande företag och dess inverkan på Triple bottom line
AB Smådelar är ett företag som tar hållbarhet på allvar. Man har nyligen
presenterat sin första hållbarhetsredovisning och vill inför framtiden
förbättra sig ytterligare avseende logistiken mot underleverantörerna. Då
det finns ett fokus på hållbarhet vill AB Smådelar inte att de logistiska
förbättringarna ska påverka Triple bottom line negativt, varför en modell
har konstruerats för att kunna testa förbättringsförslagens inverkan före
implementering.
Studien är kvalitativ med abduktiv ansats och har utgångspunkt i
semistrukturerade intervjuer. Syftet är att göra en nulägesanalys för att
hitta förbättringsområden och föreslå åtgärder som kan effektivisera
logistiken med samtidig positiv effekt på både ekonomisk, miljömässig
och social hållbarhet. Syftet är också att ta fram en enkel matrismodell för
att strukturera och testa de planerade logistiska förändringarnas effekt över
hela Triple bottom line.
Utifrån nulägesbeskrivningen har grundläggande strategi för logistiskt
arbete avhandlats, liksom Paretos princip, totalkostnadsmodellen,
komplexiteter och balanced scorecard.
Hydrauliken i Ångersjöns fosforfällor : bestämning av flödesvägar och åtgärdsförslag för optimal fosforbindning vid avloppsrening med reaktiva filter
Discharge of untreated wastewater leads to unnaturally high levels of nitrogen and
phosphorus in rivers, lakes and the sea, which results in unbalanced ecosystems with
eutrophication and lack of oxygen. Part of the phosphorus in surface waters is coming from
on-site wastewater treatment from scattered households with unsatisfactory purification.
Blast furnace slag is a by-product from iron production, and has in laboratory trials showed good phosphorus binding capacity. To test blast furnace slag as a reactive filter media for phosphorus separation in a full scale experiment, a wastewater treatment plant has been built behind the picnic area at Ångersjön alongside the road E4 in central-eastern Sweden. The plant contains two parallel lines, one with blast furnaces slag and the other with Filtralite-P as phosphorus sorbent. Both filters have showed decreasing phosphorus purification effect with time in spite of a low wastewater load.

The report begins with a general inventory of possible technical faults in a hydropower plant and of possible fault indicating measurements. Then an investigation is made concerning a few different faults. Based on this investigation a choice on seal box condition and water leakage is made as problem for a more thorough examination, in which it is concluded that the turbine water leakage is larger when the turbine is put into operation. The examination ultimately results in a computer alarm for faults related to the seal box. Finally a few things are mentioned about flow measurement and pressure measurement in relation to the project as a whole..
