Könsrollerna i LasseMajas Detektivbyrå : Diamantmysteriet respektive Mästerdetektiven Blomkvist

The purpose of this study was to find out how gender roles are described in two popular children?s detective stories, one of them written in 2002 and the other in 1946, to be able to compare the two. In order to do this, I used a qualitative research method in which I read and analyzed the text and illustrations of the Books out of a gender perspective.I used gender theories describing how stereotypical gender roles are displayed, and these theories were later associated with the Books I studied. I also used previous research concerning gender roles in other children's Books in order to compare those results with my own. After having read, analyzed and compared the two Books, I found vast resemblances between them, but also certain differences. However, it is obvious that the gender roles in both Books for the most part are traditional.

Busig eller flamsig : En studie av genus i bilderböcker

The aim of this thesis is to analyze children?s picture Books regarding whether and in what form gender stereotypes can be seen in these. The purpose is also to evaluate whether the findings correlate to the different regulatory documents libraries have to abide to.       The study comprises five Books, who are part of a selection of Books especially chosen by Uppsala City Library to be used by primary school children aged 6-9. The method used is the study of text as well as illustrations, as the theory of this thesis is that the two cannot be separated, but has to be seen a unit. Other theories used in the analysis include Nikolajeva?s schedule of male/female properties and theories on gender.      The result of the study shows that gender stereotypes are in majority regarding the characters in the Books, but that the opposite also exists.

Från underhållning till motstånd. Om kvinnors läsning av Harry Potter-böckerna

The purpose of this study is to examine how women?s reading of the Harry Potter Books can be understood on the basis of gender theory and reader-response criticism. The empirical data is gathered through qualitative interviews with six female Harry Potter readers between the age of 21 and 35, and is analyzed through several theories regarding gender and reading. Biblioteken och censuren: om försök att censurera HBT- litteratur på amerikanska folkbibliotek

The aim of this study is to look at censorship and attempted censorship of Books about gay, lesbian, bisexual and transsexual (GLBT) people in public libraries in the USA. People from the public can submit formal challenges to a book at the library when they find the material offensive which can lead to those Books being taken away from the library shelves. The questions asked are why GLBT- literature is being challenged, and sometimes banned, and how do the libraries deal with the challenges to the Books. It is nowadays the people from the public, rather than the government or the librarians that are behind many cases of removal of Books with homosexual themes. The study presents some of the fictional GLBT- literature that has been cause for much controversy in the USA. All the five examples mentioned are children?s Books concerning GLBT- themes and are among the most challenged Books in American libraries in the past twenty years.

To find answers to these questions I will examine previous researcher?s theories on difficulty levels in reading Books.

I bilderboken är allt möjligt : bilderboksillustration ur en kommunikativ synvinkel

The general purpose of this dissertation is to study picture communication in picture Books and it addresses the following questions:What is the illustrator?s role in the process of making a picture book? What communicative qualities do pictures have in picture Books and how do pictures interact with texts? What methods do illustrators use to visualize the meaning of stories in picture Books?A genre analysis, a literature study and an interview of a professional illustrator has been conducted to answer the questions. I found that all objects that make up pictures, the arrangement, colours and shapes contribute to the meaning in diverse ways. Pictures also communicate in a different way than texts. An important difference between pictures and texts in the context of picture Books is that pictures are more open for interpretation.

Den omkastade hierarkin : Framställningen av barn och vuxna i tre bilderböcker från olika tidsperioder

The aim of the study is to show how children and adults are described in three picture Books, examining how children and adults are portrayed in text-and-picture narrative and how this has changed over time. We have analysed how the characters in the Books are presented and how the representation of children and adults has changed in our own times. The material for the study consists of three picture Books from different periods, with the focus on how children and adults are described as the common point of departure. The analysed picture Books are: Tomtebobarnen (Beskow 1919), Aja baja, Alfons Åberg! (Bergström 1972) and Snäll (Dahle 2008).We have arrived at the conclusion that a text-and-picture narrative is in very large measure a reflection of the outlook on children, childhood and child rearing at the time when the book was published. The result shows that the greatest change that has happened is that parents? and adults? dominance in the Books has declined over the years, and that children have been given a more prominent role.

I chose five Books where the leading character was a child who lost a close relative like a parent or a sibling. I asked the book questions like you would do at an interwiew. The main questions were:· What do the children think about the death?· How does the child react when it finds out that a parent or a sibling is dead?· What does the child think about seeing the dead person and how does it react at the funeral?· From what or whom do they find the strength to move on?· What support does the child have from people in the surroundings?· How may the Books affect the readers? The results showed that the Books give you an image close to the reality. The children had different ways to mourn.
