The purpose of this study was to examine how some children with reading problems experience and use libraries. The main problem was: How do dyslectic children experience and use libraries and how do they handle their reading difficulties when using libraries? The questions at issue were: 1. Do children with reading problems use libraries, and if so how? - in which purposes do they use libraries? - which materials and services do they use? - why dont some children use libraries? 2.

The aim of this thesis is to examine the characteristics of film cataloguing, and to compare general as in library use and specific as in archival use cataloguing rules. Most rules, both in archives and libraries, use the book as a point of reference. This is somewhat unfortunate on account of the great difference between books and films. The method used is studies of literature and qualitative interviews with three persons whose professional duties include cataloguing of films. The sets of rules which are studied are Katalogiseringsregler för svenska bibliotek KRS and The FIAF Cataloguing Rules for Film Archives.

This master's thesis deals with how a school class of 19 students that are 12 years old,perceive the conception of the library and its activities, and how this can be studied by usingfour different approaches: analysis of the children's drawings, analysis of the children'sessays and analysis of their answers to questions in an inquiry and in interviews. SammanfattningSyftet med den här uppsatsen är att utvärdera tal- och ljudböckers klassifikation på biblioteket, hemsidan och i statistiken och efterfrågan på tal- och ljudböcker. Det bibliotek som utvärderingen har utförts på är Nordmalings bibliotek i Västerbottens län. Utlåningen av tal- och ljudböcker kommer att jämföras med klassifikationen av tal- och ljudböcker. Målet är att hitta förändringar som gör klassifikationen och beslut om beståndet av tal- och ljudböcker enklare för bibliotekarierna. Även efterfrågan på tal- och ljudböcker kommer att undersökas i uppsatsen. För att besvara frågeställningarna användes statistiken från år 2010 på KB:s hemsida samt en egen sökning av formaten på tal- och ljudböcker på den gemensamma hemsidan för Umeåregionens folkbibliotek,www.minabibibliotek.se, som gjordes i november 2011.

The aim of this thesis is to define digital library, and to investigate a relation between the construction of a digital library and user needs. The main questions to be answered are: 1 What criteria was used when constructing a digital library, particularly concerning issues like purpose, function, design, supply, services, resources and future development of the digital library? 2 How do the digital library system designers and system builders criteria correspond with those of postgraduate researchers? And what factors affect the use? A digital library is an enterprise that gives access to information stored digitally and directly available on the net. The crucial is that the enterprise has a control over collection of information and responsibility to make it available to a defined group of users. In order to investigate the relation between the construction of the digital library and user needs, I have interviewed five key people involved with the work with the digital library and twenty postgraduate researchers from the Gothenburg University.

This bachelor´s thesis analyzes the debate in a number of Swedish media regarding the introduction of video games as a new medium in the public libraries. The theory and method used is discourse analysis. Three questions were asked: how the introduction of video games as a new media in libraries is discussed, how is it motivated and in what way the authors of the articles analyzed are speaking about new media and the mission of the library. The selected articles were divided into four themes and the analysis resulted in the identification of two main discourses, one which is positive to the introduction and integration of new media in the libraries? collections, and one which has a more negative approach and uses quality and culture as an argument. The conclusion is that video games are a medium so widely used that librarians have to decide whether or not they want to include it in the libraries? collections, and by deciding this they reveal their attitude towards the mission and purpose of the public library..

Jag har utvärderat Umeåregionens bibliotekssamarbete. Samarbetet innebär att biblioteken i kommunerna Bjurholm, Nordmaling, Robertsfors, Umeå, Vindeln och Vännäs har en gemensam bibliotekskatalog och att låntagare har ett lånekort som gäller för hela regionen. Låntagare kan låna och lämna tillbaka media på samtliga bibliotek i regionen.                                                                                          Syftet med utvärderingen är att kartlägga låneflödena mellan biblioteken i regionen för att få kunskap för att utveckla medieförsörjningsstrategier och ?metoder på biblioteken. Utvärderingen innehåller en översiktlig kartläggning av låneströmmarna i hela regionen samt en mer detaljerad kartläggning av låneströmmarna mellan Umeå stadsbibliotek och Ålidhemsbiblioteket (Umeå kommun).

This master thesis concerns the relationship the librarianhas to the libraries classification system. The system itselfis made by librarians for librarians and is only used bylibrarians. The aim of this study is to examine the historical information about women?s libraries and book ownership during the early modern period in the work of Carl Magnus Carlander, Svenska bibliotek och ex-libris [Swedish libraries and ex-libris] (1904) and to inquire the scientific value of the information. A gender perspective is applied to the study. Vårt syfte med examensarbetet har varit att undersöka hur förskollärare och föräldrar arbetar med barnlitteratur och högläsning i förskola och hem. Vi intervjuade därför fyra förskollärare samt lät föräldrarna till de barn som går på intervjupersonernas avdelningar fylla i en enkät. För att få kunskap om varför och hur man kan arbeta med barnlitteratur och högläsning använde vi oss av litteraturundersökning. Genom vårt intervjumaterial fann vi att förskollärarna arbetar med barnlitteratur och högläsning i olika grad och med olika metoder. Alla föräldrar i vår enkätundersökning läser högt för sina barn.

The main focal point of this study is about public libraries and its possible roles in today's society. Going from having had a clear educational orientation, public libraries has with time amassed several other roles, which all need to relate to the swedish law regarding libraries and other governing documents, as well as business plans. This thesis focus on a qualitative investigation, which was conducted through in-depth interviews with librarians and other staff at a public library in Stockholm, named bibliotek Plattan, to ascertain the prevailing opinions within this facility about the role of libraries and librarians. The choice of examine this particular library was based on the fact that bibliotek Plattan differs from the public library in general and only offers material for adults. Their collection of litterature is primarily based on fiction novels.

This Masters thesis concerns how library and preschool can cooperate in supporting childrens language development and especially that of bilingual children. We have investigated how librarians and preschool teachers different competences can complement each other to gain the best result in work with childrens language development. This study is based on qualitative interviews with four librarians and three preschool teachers. The answers from them have been analysed according to different categories. Our results show that both librarians and preschool teachers think that bilingual children need extra support and that it takes longer to learn two languages.

Undersökningen handlar om bemötande inom hemtjänstarbete. Centrala begrepp i uppsatsen är bemötande, kommunikation och social interaktion. Uppsatsen bygger på kvalitativa intervjuer samt deltagande observationer där resultatet grundar sig på information från personal och personliga tolkningar. Informationen innefattar egna tankaroch erfarenheter från personalen om hemtjänstarbetet och om de centrala begreppen. Syftet med uppsatsen är att se hur de olika möten mellan personla och omsorgstagare fungerar och hur man går tillväga för att få en fungerande kommunikation.

The purpose of this Masters thesis has been to examine the importance of libraries for girls leisure time in secondary school. Focus has been on the use of the library as a leisure activity. Interviews were carried out with six girls of the ages 13 to 16. The conclusion of the study is that the library is of importance for the girls mostly through its books. Reading turned out to be an important leisure activity for the girls and the books provided by the library were of significance for their identity development.
