The purpose of this bachelor degree thesis is to analyze technical issues associated with an implementation of a low sloping trash rack with narrow spacing. A hydropower plant in Umea?lven was used as a case study. The basis for the study was a model where trash racks were dimensioned for inclinations between 25 and 45 degrees. Corresponding head loss, durability and water speed through the rack were then determined for each inclination.

Glulam is a product that was engineered to make use of timber in a more efficient way. Bychoosing timber of similar quality and discarding natural defects during production, thedevelopment of a stronger cross-section is achieved.Carbon fiber is a relatively new material with a high tension capacity. This feature is used toexamine how the bending capacity of the Beams improve by adhering carbon fiber laminateson the lower edge of the BeamsThe strength of the material is tested with three experiments: carbon fiber on the bottom of thebeam (a), carbon fiber attached to the lower sides of the beam (b) and carbon fiber in thebeam, covered with a layer of wood (c)The results show that the first case, where the carbon fiber is attached to the bottom of thebeam, gave the best result with an increase in capacity of 59 % compared to the nonreinforcedcontrol. The other two cases also show an improvement in capacity, beam-type 3had a capacity increase of 47% and beam-type 4 increased with 25 %Tests were also made with glulam Beams reinforced with fiberglass, but these tests were notanalyzed in depth because the purpose was to compare the capacity to carbon fiber. Thisbeam improved its capacity by 40.3%.The tests show that carbon fiber as a reinforcement material for glulam is a good choice whenthere is a requirement for stronger cross-sections in both new production and renovation ofold buildings.

In this thesis tests has been performed on the pull strength of screws glued into glulam Beams.The experiment is based on the already approved method whereby the diameter of the drilled holes is the same as the screw outer diameter of 1 mm or bigger. The screws strength class shall not be less than 4.6 (EN ISO 898-1:1999, 1999).The difference in the experiments that were performed where that the drilled diameter were 1 mm smaller than the outer diameter of the screw so that the screw thread was worked into the wood.In the tests the gluing where made on M8 glulam Beams. The screws where drilled at and angel of 90°tangental to the fiber direction with a diameter of 7 mm. The gluing of the screws where made in three different depths and where later exposed to pulling forces. The results showed both pulling breaks and screw breaks when they reached their maximum capacity.

The elements are flat which make it much easier to transport the elements from the factory to the building site where the building parts are easily mounted with special mounting stud.One of the main drawbacks of lightweight structure is the sound transmission. The main topic is low frequency annoyance, however the complex structural elements and their mutual sensitive connections other acoustical problems might appear.

Viking center
My diploma thesis has focused on creating a proposal for a Viking center in Stockholm that meets the international interest. A building dedicated solely to the Viking heritage. My ambition has been to give the Viking center an architecture that can serve as scenography for its exhibitions and to give the visitors a feel for the Vikings that they have been craving. This thesis was conducted at Linköping University and SAAB Aerostructures, Linköping, and focuses on the automation of flexible fixturing in machining applications. At Linköping University a project called "Koofix" is conducted with support from Strategiska stiftelsen and several manufacturing industries including SAAB Aerostructures. The purpose of this project is to develop a more cost-effective, flexible, technique for fixation of workpieces during processing and assembly.Fixtures are an important part during the machining process, especially if you process the parts with high accuracy. Today a large number of fixtures are used at SAAB and they would prefer to reduce the number of fixtures by using flexible fixtures instead. SAAB uses one fixture for each article and this result in a high fixture cost and it also takes time to design and construct a new fixture.There are several advantages with using a flexible fixture such as that you can process workpieces with different length, height and thickness in the same fixture.

The Results of this thesis was the creation of two designed house variants with a module toall the apartments. In addition till the first module there are three other modules ofapartments that can be put in the houses if it so needs. The house are volume prefabricatedand are placed on site in a way that it create an enclosure of the area which faces against thenature and car parks also lies hidden behind these houses.For the actual structure, a cross beam was created to carry the floor above and it is supportby all four walls. The structure between the first and the second floor has no "syll" butinstead there are two differently alternative to linking the floors in order so that it will notmove. The reason with this solution was that there will not be any subsidence when theforces from above are pressed down ward.

The unusually cold winters along with extreme prices of electricity in Sweden in recent years has also contributed to increased interest in energy-efficient buildings.The process of developing a modern family home in Kiruna, Sweden is presented the first part of this paper. The house has been designed to withstand very high stresses from snow, low energy consumption as well as a high standard of living comfort. Aspects of the house covered here involves everything from construction, heating and ventilation to sanitation. Each of these areas is presented based on their underlying, scientific methods or theories.
Grundläggning med cellglas : En studie av byggtid och lönsamhet
This report describes a new foundation method and compares it with a traditional founding of concrete. This new method is called the Koljern technique and uses cellular glass which is called Foamglas. The Foamglas is compounded to founding elements by lightweight steel Beams. Foamglas is an insulation material with high compressive strength, and is rot, insect, vermin and acid proof. The cellular glass is also fire proof and watertight, which makes it a very good construction material.The report contains a study of a number of cases for which the Koljern technique is compared with a foundation of concrete.
Stabilisering av lätta trähus
Med Tommy Persson kvalitets- och produktchef vid Masonite Beams AB i Rundvik diskuterades problemet kring infästning av väggelement med hög färdighetsgrad till grunden. Det bestämdes att arbetet skulle fokusera på en- och tvåbostadshus och att endast fenomenet stjälpning skulle beaktas.Lastfördelningen gjordes enligt vad Klas Nyman skrivit i sitt examensarbete Tredimensionella effekter vid horisontalstabilisering av volymbyggda trähus. Beräkningar av lyftkraft gjordes enligt den plastiska metoden med syllen förankrad mot lyft medan frontregeln inte är förankrad mot lyftning som Bo Källsner och Ulf Arne Girhammar beskriver i sin bok Horisontalstabilisering av träregelstommar. För beräkning av skruvars bärförmåga tillämpades Eurokod 5. För beräkning av 5-percentilsvärden från provning tillämpades SS-EN 14358:2006 Träkonstruktioner.Resultat; de två studerade fästmetodernas dimensionerande bärförmåga är 1.61 kN och 1,23 kN, lyftkraften i syllen är i storleksordningen 3-19 kN/m.Rapporten kan ses som en fingervisning på hur stora lyftkrafter som uppstår i syllen när det blåser och ett alternativ på hur man ska beräkna dessa lyftkrafter.

Den generella svenska byggprocessen idag är inte utformad för att hantera hela processen som ett system, vilket innebär att förändringar krävs inom såväl processen som dess styrning. Inom bostadsbyggande är produktivitetsutvecklingen betydligt lägre än i tillverkningsindustrin och man brottas med bristande samarbete mellan aktörer, svagt engagemang, en fragmenterande byggprocess och bristande helhetssyn. Att skapa maximalt värde för kunden och minimera slöserier är grundläggande för ?lean production? och ?Toyota Production System?, TPS, två av tillverkningsindustrins mest framgångsrika processfilosofier.För att uppnå ett effektivt och fungerande helhetskoncept bör industriellt byggande behandlas med ett systemtänkande, baserat på långsiktiga och kontinuerliga processer med fokus på kunderna. Inom systemtänkandet bör processer och metoder struktureras, teknik standardiseras och kunskap återförs till processerna.MFB, Masonite Flexibla Byggsystem, är ett byggsystem för industriellt byggande med hög prefabriceringsgrad där andelen montagearbete på byggarbetsplats underlättas och minimeras.
Omkonstruktion av lastväxlare Livab
The degree project was made forZetterbergs Industri AB. The company is market leading in Europe in the heavyvehicle industry, designing and building body systems for trucks.In their line of products is the hook lift called Livab, a flexible and uniqueproduct. The hook lift is often demanded by customers because its special ability tobe able to operate in situations with low roof clearance. The main operation principleof the hook lift can be described as a truck stand, laid down.There are two main versions of the hook lift Livab, AL 26 and AL 32. These are ofdifferent load capacity, 17 and 25 metric tons of gross weight respectively.
Konstruktion av tryckförstärkare
Masonites flexibla byggsystem, är ett byggsystem utvecklat av Masonites Beams AB för flervåningshus, bostäder och kontor i trä. System är anpassat så att det i största möjliga utsträckning går att använda sig av prefabricerade element direkt från fabrik, för att sedan hopfogas med mekaniska förband på byggarbetsplatsen.Masonites förslag på en infästning mellan bärande väggar är utformad som en montagedubb vilken förs ned i ett hål i underliggande väggelement. Montaget av dubben fungerade inte önskvärt, och det finns tveksamheter i montagedubbens förmåga att ta upp vindinducerande krafter.Examensarbetet syftar till att utforma och dimensionera ett nytt väggbeslag till Masonites flexibla byggsystem där snabbt montage av beslaget är viktigt. Iden är att såga en kontinuerlig slits i väggelementen som man sedan fäster plåtar som skruvas fast i det övre- respektive det undre väggelementet. Skruven som används är en självborrande skruv för att slippa förborrning av plåten och väggelementet.Reglerna i Eurokod 3 och 5 ligger till grund för beräkningarna av beslaget och lastnedräkningen av ett 8-våningshus är enligt BKR. Lämplig indata till lastnedräkningen gjordes i samråd med erfaren konstruktör och inblandade i MFB från Masonite.

This candidate.?s work includes designing of a house with it.?s structural components andinstallations. The house had to be actual with Building Regulations (Boverkets Byggregler).Beside designing of all the crucial systems necessary for completing of claimed regulations evenan optional topic within building engineering had to be chosen.The task included designing of heating, ventilation, sanitation and electricity systems. Structuralengineering models has been made in compliance with Eurocodes. Materials for facades, floorsand roof were chosen and evaluated.As recessed portion of the work, evaluating of possibilities in designing of a glass roof waschosen.
