he purpose of this master thesis is to learn more about the ancient Alexandrian Library. The method used in this thesis is methodology of history, especially a critical attitude when it comes to evaluating the ancient texts. I put forward three questions to which I desire to find answers. First: What do the sources from Antiquity tell about the Alexandrian library? Second: How do modern writers of books on the subject use these sources? Thirdly: I look into the possible historical and cultural reasons that the first of the Ptolemaic kings could have had for establishing the Mouseion and the Library of Alexandria.

Metaphors and their use as a rethorical vehicle are examined. Two texts, one in Chinese and one in Swedish, are compared and analyzed to determine the extent to which the associations they create successfully capture the author's intent. Seecondarily, a shift from the assumptions that rhetorical analyses often assume (read: antiquity and Aristotles) to a more abstract internal human platform is suggested. Neurological and cognitive research is cited in support of this shift.The essay examines the question: How can metaphoric contribute to conveying the communicator's intention? By comparing metaphorics used by an historical Chinese rhetor with those used by a contemporary Swedish rhetor.

Detta arbete cirkulerar det vida begreppet kunskap. Genom att fokusera begreppet till en bestämd ontologisk och epistemologisk sfär, och med hjälp av Aristoteles kunskapsanalys konkretisera det, tillämpas ett analytiskt greppbart kunskapsbegrepp på gymnasieskolans svenskämnesplan. Syftet med en sådan praktisk operation är dels att undersöka svenskämnets specifika kunskapsutrymme, dels att kunna vidga kunskapsdiskussionen till läroplans- och samhällsnivå. Utförda kunskapsanalys av ämnesplanen visar en dubbelhet i kunskapsanvändningen. Å ena sidan inkluderas såväl teoretisk som olika former av praktisk kunskap i ämnets syfte. En tendens att beskriva fronetiskt anstruken kunskap i samband med syftet iakttas.
