Parasitering på en expanderande art : har kartfjärilen undkommit sina naturliga fiender?
Warmer climate is a driving factor to species expansion northwards. Expansion to new Areas can result in escape from natural enemies, resulting in reduced levels of mortality and thereby potentially increasing the rate of expansion. The most important parasitoid species attacking butterfly larvae belong to the families Tachinidae, Ichneumonidae and Braconidae. The aim of this thesis was to investigate parasitism and difference between populations in established Area and newly colonized Area for the European map butterfly, Araschnia levana, in order to examine if the butterfly has escaped from some natural enemies. In 1982 the first European map butterfly was observed in Sweden and has now established up to middle Småland.
En etnisk secession : Varför Biafra beslutade sig föra att bryta sig loss och hur lärare kan göra det tydligare i historieämnet
The aim of the analysis in this essay will be divided into two cases. In the first, I will study the formation of a new State and why a geographic Area of a country decides to make an secession. The focus will be on the secession of Biafra from Nigeria in 1967 and how the causes and explanations behind this secession, get in the Swedish literature as well as the international literature. In Case 2, I will use a explanation games, as a means to give pupils more understanding and to make it more clear, why a geographical Area chooses to make a secession, and where I will use the secession of the Biafra from Nigeria as my example (Case 1). To more easily understand and answer the question, why the geographical Area of Biafra in south-eastern Nigeria chose to do an secession, I have chosen to study my Case 1 from a social and political context.
Kartläggning av snökanoner över Östersjön
Convective snowbands is a weather phenomenon that is associated with heavy snowfall in a limited Area. They are formed over ice-free parts of e.g. the Baltic Sea when there is a cold easterly airflow over relatively warm water. These convective snowbands can cause large amounts of snow along the Swedish east coast, often causing traffic hazards. Sometimes they can even paralyze an entire community. In this study, convective snowbands that have formed over the Baltic Sea during the period 1980-2009 are examined, in order to find out how often they occur, what place they are most common and in what month they usually appear.
Märstaån ? ett vattenlandskap : Är våtmarker och dammar vägen framåt?
The overall aim is to examine how the European Union Water Framework Directive has affected the local water management in the catchment Märstaån situated in the eastern part of the lake Mälaren river basin, Sweden. The first part of the study gives an historical overview of the Area with focus on how the old agricultural landscape was handling the nutrient load from farming activities by means of different kinds of wetlands. By using the concept of the procedural landscape, introduced by Torsten Hägerstrand , together with historical maps with dates starting from the 17th century, the pre-modern landscape is analyzed. The second part is an investigation, based on qualitative data, on how the different actors in the catchment Area work together to secure the water quality for the Märstaån river. The analysis shows that the Märstaån catchment river systems are mostly unchanged in the rural Areas. The exception is the mainstream section of the Märstaån river running partly underground today and the Halmsjöbäcken river that is heavily affected by the Arlanda airport situated within the catchment Area.
Tillsats av biokol till en svensk sandjord : effekter på lustgasavgång, kväveretention och andel vattenfyllda porer
In a column experiment the effect of three different biochars on nitrous gas emissions, nitrogenretention and water filled pore space (WFPS) were studied in a Swedish sandy soil, classified as aCryopsamment. Ammonium retention was positively correlated, while KCl-extractable ammoniumwas negatively correlated, with the specific Area of the biochars. The question was raised whether thenegative correlation between extractable ammonium and biochar specific Area reflects the amount ofammonium present in the soil or its extractability from the biochar, and whether methods forextracting soil mineral nitrogen, like KCl-extractions, have to be modified for application on biocharamended soils. There was a tendency of increased nitrate retention and KCl-extractable nitrate withbiochar and KCl-extractable nitrate was positively correlated with the specific Area of the biochar. pHwas higher for all biochars compared with control, although the differences were not significant, andWFPS was lowered by biochar addition, significantly in one case.
Tätortsnära skogsbruksplan i Borås stad
This report is part of an Bachelor of Science work in forestry, conducted for the community of Borås, Sweden. In order to create a forest management plan for the Area of Hestra, a survey was conducted. People living in the Area were given the opportunity to reply to the survey. The questions in the survey are both personal and forestry-related. The aim is to reach out to the different categories of people when it comes to age, living and the different aspects of visiting the woods.
Vad händer med åsikterna? : Järvadialogen som kommunikationsinsats
The Area of Järvafältet in the northern parts of Stockholm is one of the many large-scale investments into Swedish residency executed in the 60?s and 70?s, and which got the name Miljonprogrammet. Not until today these buildings have been restored, and frustration has been brewing in these Areas for some time. Järvadialogen is the name of a communication program connected to the housing restoration in the Area of Husby, which is a part of Järvafältet, and functions as a promotional and informational dialogue between residents in the Area and those responsible for the communication program. The cultural diversity in the Area of Husby is significant, and with theories on intercultural communication, change communication and power we study the performed communicative process and the manner in which it is received.
Skogsskötsel för att främja sociala och estetiska värden i ett friluftsområde i Trollhättans Stad
Over 80% of Sweden's population lives in urban Areas, and half of the country's forest visits will thus be in urban woodlands. Social values ??- how the individual experiences the forest, and the impact of the forest visits on individual health and well-being, are pointing to the importance of managing the urban woodlands. When there comes to the cultivation of the urban woodlands there are usually many opinions to consider. This study aims to investigate the various opinions on the use and forestry in an urban recreation Area in ??the City of Trollhättan. The study addresses both general and in four cases specific suggestions on management methods.Data was obtained from both quantitative and qualitative study through survey, interviews and discussions with the users of the recreation Area.Trollhättan's goal with the recreation Area is to make it accessible to local residents. The users are mainly influenced by the accessibility therefore clearings and thinnings are appreciated.
På färd genom glömda landskap : Rumslig analys av bronsåldersbygden i Mönsterås
This paper deals with the relations between landscape rooms and monuments in an Area north of Mönsterås in Kalmar län. After archaeological excavations had been carried out in the Area 1991, an article promote it to the ?Bronze Age district of Mönsterås? (Källström 1993). There are two main problems that I deal with in this paper. First: The relations between the natural places and the monuments or memorials.
Dominerande affärsmodeller inom området informationssäkerhet
Computers together with Internet have been growing enormously, during the last
decade and the Area of information technology has been growing in the same
speed. As long as the surrounding environment evolves, the business models must
within the IT-Area, keep the same pace. So, how do business corporations handle
this change to attract customers? How do the dominant business models look
like? In many cases, they are apparently much the same. But what differences
can we see and what Areas can be improved?
We have showed that the IT Area isn?t just one, it consist of several segments.
En intervju och enkätstudie av besökare i tre tätortsnära skogsområden i Stockholmstrakten :
This Masters thesis is made as the first of two visitor surveys of three urban forest
Areas. These Areas are; Skutan recreational Area in Haninge, Ugglevikskällan on Norra
Djurgården in Stockholm and the Paradiset Reserve in Huddinge. The study is made
in cooperation with the managers of the three Areas operating within the European
Union Life Project regarding Urban Woods for People.
The goal has been to collect data through studies of visitors and close by residents in
the three Areas. The results are to be used as primary values for the follow-up as well
as a basis for managerial decisions. The interviews and surveys are also constructed in
a fashion so that they can be used for the follow-up study.
For the Skutan recreational Area the mode of contact was by sending forms to the
nearby residential Areas.
Kulturens Bokhylla
?A culture center should be visually welcoming as well as attract a diverse range of visitors with different backgrounds.? This was the client?s request for a new cultural center in Nairobi. The location is in the heart of Nairobi?s industrial Area, near several existing buildings that are already in use by the culture organization known as Go Down. I have chosen to keep most of the existing buildings and to use my new building as a complement for the desired program.
Störs laxens lekvandring i en kraftverkspåverkad älvsträcka? :
The upstream spawning migration of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) at the confluence
Area between the power-station outlet and the bypass-channel in river Umeälven (flow 430
m3s-1) was compared in 2004 and 2005, two years with different experimental flow-regimes.
In 2004 the water flow in the bypass-channel was altered during the day with increased
flows during the nights while the water flow in 2005 mainly was altered between the
weekdays and weekends. Salmon showed altered migratory behaviour in this confluence
Area, assessed with telemetry (n=116) and echo-sounding, with up- or downstream responses
depending on flow-changes in both the bypass and the power station outlet. Increased
turbine flow through the power-station generally attracted salmon into the tunnel outlet Area
while increased spill-flows facilitated salmon to enter the bypass. Echo-sounding in the
confluence Area showed an increased swimming activity up- and downstream due to time in
the day and flow-rates through the tunnel outlet. No changes in activity could be detected
due to increasing or decreasing flow through the hydro-power facility.
Lärplattformar- verktyg för lärandet : Hur bör det utformas för att förbättra e-lärande för studenter på Linneuniversitet?
The development of the web has become an attractive Area, with continuously and rapid development in the Area it has led to a big change in the way of learning. Learning is a concept with many definitions, but a definition that is many at hand is that learning means that individuals seeking new knowledge and experiences that shape their goals, behavior and environment. With the development of the web a new way of learning emerged, E-learning. E-learning integrates information technology with the traditional learning to offers a flexible way of learning for students where they won't be dependent on time, place or others issues that would prevent their learning. E-learning takes shape of an application, LMS (Learning Management System). Today LMS are widely used in many universities, but with new technique comes new problems. The constant developments of the LMS have made the decision to use LMS difficult.
Det meningsskapande materialet : platsidentitet och materialitet i vår byggda omgivning
The physical environment is constructed of materials. The materiality of different places contributes to how places can be distinguished and the material can contribute to the construction of place identity. For architects with different orientations the material is one of the principal means by which they can express their idea. The material remains when the design process is finished and instead the material becomes a precondition for how people will perceive and deal with the place. The literature study of the essay examines how the concept of place and materiality is dealt with in different disciplines and how these descriptions are linked to the concept of place identity.
