Utvecklingen av antibiotika till effektiva läkemedel för snart sextio år sedan revolutionerade behandlingen av infektioner. Tack vare antibiotika, som i dag är en självklar tillgång i vårt välfärdssamhälle, kan bakteriesjukdomar hos människa och djur effektivt botas. Denna möjlighet hotas nu genom att bakterier i ökande omfattning utvecklar resistens mot antibiotika. Det finns i världen idag sjukdomsalstrande bakterier som är resistenta mot alla kända antibiotika.

Learning words have shown to be a very crucial part of learning a second language and the one most important factor to make pupils with Swedish as a second language succeed in school. To make sure that all pupils get the right conditions to learn from all subjects and their entire content a wide vocabulary is necessary. Even so it is found that there are shortcomings regarding this kind of teaching in Swedish schools.Through interviews and observations of two teachers that teach pupils with Swedish as a second language, and also with a short reading test for the pupils, the possible strategies that these teachers use for learning words have been studied. The result shows that the teachers are using several strategies and that they are actively working with transmitting these to the pupils, but there are some areas that need developing..

Denna uppsats behandlar ämnet terrorism under Osloprocessen, som varade under i princip hela 1990-talet. Vi har valt att undersöka denna terrorism ur ett relativt avgränsat perspektiv. Vi vill se på ämnet ur ett orsak och verkan perspektiv, och detta gör vi genom att analysera fram de konsekvenser som Israels hantering av den palestinska terrorismen gav. För att utkristallisera ett mönster i Israels anti-terroristpolitik har vi applicerat en handfull olika teorier, som behandlar olika former av terroristhantering, på händelserna under i Mellanöstern under Osloprocessen. Huvudtesen formas av att vi ställer inkludering och exkludering av terrorister, i fredsamtal, mot varandra och försöker pröva deras för- respektive nackdelar..

This essay deals with non-normative gender expressions during childhood. I?m using narrative theory and methods to analyze autobiographical narratives. My questions are:What strategies does the non-normative person use to deal with his otherness?Using the methodological analysis tool ?turning point?, where are the turning points in the narratives? Are their any common turning points in the various narratives?Where is the responsibility placed in the narratives for that someone does not fit in by the adults/ staff at the school/kindergarten- on the non-normative person or at the surroundings?The experiences are interpreted through theories and concepts from queer theory and gender theory.

This paper addresses the need to review the modern presentation of textile archaeology in museums. It is time to look at textiles in archaeology with new eyes. The reality behind archaeological textilestudy is holistic, embracing many different aspects of society. The presentation of textiles has in my opinion become old-fashioned. I will show in my paper that Jonathan Adams? `seven constraints´ model, developed for research on ancient ships, can also be applied to textile research.

How the United States anti-terrorist strategy is affecting the view of democracy is the main analysis of this paper. I denna litteraturstudie sammanfattas ett flertal undersökningar av effekten av olika anthelmintika till hund och katt för behandling mot spolmaskarterna Toxocara canis, Toxocara (cati) mystax och, till viss del, Toxascaris leonina. Samtliga studier har publicerats mellan åren 1998 och 2011.T. canis drabbar hundar, T. (cati) mystax angriper katter och T. leonina har både hund och katt som huvudvärd.

Bipolär sjukdom (BS) är en kronisk sjukdom med återkommande perioder av mani och depression. Den bryter oftast fram i tonåren men i många fall diagnostiseras den inte förrän patienten är runt 30 år. Behandling för BS är livslång medicinering med stämningsstabiliserande läkemedel, i första hand litium, kombinerat med anti-depressiva läkemedel och anti-psykotiska läkemedel. Läkemedelsbehandling kombineras med psykoedukativ behandling eller kognitivbeteende terapi (KBT). En intensivbehandling följer efter det att diagnosen är ställd och det tar ofta upp till 2 år för patienten att hitta en balans i livet.Syftet med denna studie är att få en uppfattning om hur det är att leva med bipolär sjukdom.

In this thesis I discuss and analyse the relationship between USA and Europe since the end of the Cold War. Many authors claimed that the Soviet threat was the glue that kept the continents together. Now that threat is gone and new challenges have risen. In what way has this relationship been influenced by the new challenges this new era stands for? By doing a case study and by using two quite different theorists, John Mearsheimer an offensive realist and Joseph Nye who is a liberal institutionalist, I?ll try to show how for example September 11, anti-amerikanism and NATO can be explained and understood.

This thesis sets out to investigate three questions, first, how the Belarusian democratization process has progressed since the country?s independence in 1991 to the year of 2006. Second, how the relationship between Russia and Belarus has progressed during this time and third, if and how Russia has affected the democratization process. The study has been conducted through qualitative method, mainly using books and articles as sources of information. It has been found that the democratization process in Belarus has evolved in a negative direction ever since the presidential election of 1994.

Will the discourse in a country effect the way an event is presented in the media? And will the event be presented in similar ways in different countries? These are the questions my paper aims to answer. By using critical discourse analysis I have analyzed the reporting of the Iraqi War in three big newspapers; one from USA, one from Sweden and one from Great Britain. The results show that the discourse in each country play a big part in how the news get presented in the media, and this is shown in how the news gets reported. The three countries had three different views on the same war.

Resistensutvecklingen hos hästens inälvsparasiter har länge varit omtalad och har på senare år blivit ett ännu hetare ämne. Inte minst hästens spolmask som på bara några år har gått från; att kunna avdöda med de flesta avmaskningsmedel, till att nu vara kandidat för multiresistens. Studier världen över bevisar en multiresistens mot samtliga makrocykliska laktoner och det finns även studier som tyder på att så även är fallet med pyrantel-preparat. Den enda substans som idag är effektiv mot Parascaris equorum är bensimidazol; emellertid har vi det i Sverige gott ställt i resistensproblematiken där även pyrantel har fortsatt god effekt.Det finns många negativa effekter som kan uppkomma vid en spolmaskinfektion, där kolik och tarmruptur är de allvarligaste. Det finns även studier som indikerar att koliksymptomen kan ha en relation till föregående avmaskning och att det på grund av denna blir en stockning av avdödade maskar.En förebyggande åtgärd mot infektion av spolmask är framför allt att ha en fungerande avmaskningsrutin, gärna med selektiv avmaskning genom träckprov.

This essay examines a small selection of Swedish newsreel and documentary short films, primarily travelogues, produced shortly before and after the second world war. The general aim is to expose differences in the representation of ?The Other? and the ?ethnic Swede? by applying a critical discourse analysis. The purpose is to illuminate how the material positions the latter as the norm and then contextualize this with xenophobic currents that had developed up until the middle of the twentieth century. Theoretical and methodological framework is drawn from the field of cultural studies as well as the nonfiction film.

The Sweden democrats are a political party that has had a time of success duringthe last year. However many people believe them to be a racist party, in contrastto how they view themselves and their political message. How is it possible thatthe views of the same party differ to this extent, it seems to be a large ambiguityin their message. Rhetoric is a tool that everybody uses in some way or anotherand can be crucial to how a political party is perceived by people. Can thereforethe use of rhetoric be a factor that has contributed to the different perception of theparty and if so, in which way?With the help of theories such as semiotics, classical rhetoric and antiestablishmentstrategy, different texts, such as motions, and pictures published bythe Sweden democrats can be analyzed to find ways they use rhetoric.In the analysis it was obvious that they used rhetoric, even though therhetorical quality differed between the leading persons in the party and the peoplewho represented the Sweden democrats in the local government.
