Resurseffektiv kvävereduktion genom nitritationProblematiken med övergödning i våra akvatiska system har lett till hårdare krav på kväverening vid våra reningsverk. En rejektvattenbehandling har visat sig vara ett bra alternativ för att utöka kvävereningen. Vid Nykvarnsverket i Linköping renas avloppsvatten och sedan 2009 finns en SHARON-anläggning i drift. SHARON står för ?Stable High rate Ammonia Removal Over Nitrite? och är en kvävereningsprocess för rejektvatten utvecklad av Grontmij i samarbete med Tekniska universitetet i Delft.I denna studie har SHARON-processen i Linköping undersökts.

Comparison of stable environment in prior approved and non-prior approved horse stables

To establish good horse welfare there are several factors that need to be considered. One important factor is the environment in which the horses are kept. In Sweden horses are stabled during long periods of time in the cold season and consequently the stable environment is even more important. The most essential environmental factors in a horse stable are ambient temperature, relative humidity (RH) and concentrations of contaminants in the stable air. The air in a horse stable contains dust, noxious gases, moulds and microorganisms which all can contribute to developing respiratory diseases in horses.

Energieffektivisering av luftningssteget på Käppalaverket, Lidingö

This master thesis in energy optimization was made during the autumn of 2006 at Käppala wastewater treatment plant in Lidingö, Stockholm. A preceding thesis, where all electricity consumption was mapped, showed that the aeration in the biological treatment is the single largest consumer in the plant, and it is therefore of interest to reduce this cost. The oxygen control strategy used at Käppala WWTP is working well from a nutrient removal point of view, but not from an economic one. The last aerobic zones have a very low oxygen consumption during low loading periods which give rise to enhanced dissolved oxygen concentrations with excessive costs and reduced denitrification as a result. But also during periods of normal loading unnecessary high oxygen concentration are sometimes given.By modifying the aeration control strategy three full-scale experiments have been made, with the intention to reduce the air consumption.

Ärtrev som substrat för biogasproduktion : En litteraturstudie och rötning i labbskala

Until 2020, 49% of Sweden's use of energy must derive from renewable sources. Greenhouse gases must as well decline with 40% compared to 1990 as a part of Sweden's 16 environmental objectives. Biogas is part of the effort to achieve these objectives, but as the demand for biogas increases, more substrates are needed to meet the demand. The purpose is to investigate the conditions for pea residue as substrate by performing lab-scale mesophilic digestion with different fractions and notch lengths and then to summarize pea residue as a substrate for biogas production. During anaerobic digestion, 1000 ml bottles were used as reactors for digestion.

Gimo bruksområde - inventering och riskklassning enligt MIFO fas 1 :

This master thesis encompasses an inventory of the older industrial community of Gimo. Investigations of the contamination situation for each industrial area were done. A risk classification according to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency?s ?Method of Surveying Contaminated Sites?, phase one, followed. The risk classification was done on areas of Iron Work, a rockwool industry and a landfill. Gimo have had iron manufacturing from 1615 until 1945. Gimo have had two blast-furnaces and two smithies periodically.

Utsläpp av växthusgaser och ammoniak från hemkomposter

Hemkompostering är fördelaktigt bland annat därför att det kan leda till minskade transporter av sopor och därmed koldioxidutsläpp, samt att den färdiga komposten kan användas som näringstillskott för växter. Kompostering av matavfall innebär dock en risk för bildning av metan och lustgas, vilka är starka växthusgaser. Även Ammoniak, med försurande och övergödande effekter, kan släppas ut från komposten under vissa förhållanden. Det här arbetet syftar till att undersöka utsläppen av dessa ämnen, samt öka kunskapen om hur skötseln av komposten påverkar utsläppen. Vid tre tillfällen under juni och juli 2010 utfördes mätningar på 20 komposter i Uppsala.  Temperaturen mättes i komposten, prov togs av gasen i kompostoch prover av materialet togs även för analys av vattenhalt, pH och askhalt. Hushållen förde också protokoll över sin skötsel av komposten under tiden för mätningarna.

Kryogen uppgradering av biogas med kyla från värmedriven absorptionskylmaskin

Detta är ett examensarbete som genomförts hos Göteborg Energi AB och syftar till att utreda omkryogen uppgradering av biogas med fördel kan ske genom att producera nödvändig kyla medvärmedriven absorptionskylmaskin. Göteborg Energi är en av tre parter som tillsammans ska bygga enbiogasanläggning i Lidköping som ska vara i drift 2010. Anläggningen ska producera 30 GWhflytande biogas per år.Arbetet utreder om det är fördelaktigt ur ekonomiskt, energimässigt och miljömässigt perspektiv attuppgradera biogas med kryogen teknik med värmeproducerad kyla. En jämförelse görs först medkryogen teknik där kylan är producerad med el och sen med andra uppgraderingstekniker. Som stödhar två olika processimuleringsprogram används, Hysys och DESIGN II.Resultatet visar att energianvändningen ökar då värmedriven kyla används i jämförelse med kylaproducerad med el.

Vermicompost for reduction of vegetable waste - and a possible means to produce fish feed in aquaponic systems?

Aquaponics is a food production system consisting of a consecutive cultivation of plants and aquatic animals, fish or shellfish, in recirculating water. The plants feed on the nutritious effluents from the fish tank and bacteria converts Ammonia from the fish tank into nitrate that is absorbed by the plants. The plants receive nutrition and the fish gain purified water. The environmental impact of the production of fish meal and fish oil used in conventional fish feed includes a large consumption of fossil fuels with subsequent carbon dioxide emission. The aquaponic system can be made environmentally sustainable and self-supporting if supplemented with a vermicompost/vermiculture for the production of worm protein as a fish feed. Vegetable waste from the hydroponic part of the system can be reused as worm feed in the compost and the protein rich worms can be harvested, dried and grinded and brought back to the aquaculture as fish feed. As a first step in this direction, I have investigated the effect of recycling of vegetable waste in vermicomposts on the growth and number of earthworms (this was evaluated after harvesting). The hypotheses were that earthworms can be cultivated in the vegetable waste and that by adding manure to the vermicompost it is possible to obtain a nutrient content adequate to support a continuous worm harvest, in other words create a vermiculture. Eisenia fetida and Dendrobaena veneta were grown in 20 L bins containing peat mixed with either poultry or cattle manure. The proportions were 70% peat and 30 % manure. Discarded plant parts from lettuce cultivation was added to the vermicomposts (35 g per week) and water was supplied with 0.8 L per week.

Modern milk production have come a long way when it comes to accommodating the nutritional and physiological needs of the animals, but unfortunately the behavioural and psychological needs of cows and heifers are often left unfulfilled. A long time for eating is beneficial for the digestion and also gives the cattle something to do and decreases the risks for developing abnormal behaviours. An important factor that influences eating- and ruminating time is the particle size of the roughage. The aim of the study was to find out if particle size influences the behaviour of dairy heifers, in particular with regard to eating behaviour and abnormal behaviours. The study was conducted at Uddetorp farm high school in Skara. Forty-two heifers of the breeds SR and SF were housed in 8 slatted floor pens.

Effekter av Zeoliter i Biogasproduktion

Biogas är benämningen för metangas (CH4) som är producerad via anaerob (syrefri) rötning av biologiskt material. I Linköping finns en av Sveriges största biogasanläggningar. Anläggningen drivs av Svensk Biogas AB som ägs av Tekniska Verken i Linköping AB (publ.). I anläggningen rötas stora mängder proteinrikt substrat vilket leder till höga halter av Ammoniak (NH3) och ammonium (NH4+) i rötkammaren. Ammoniak (NH3) är toxiskt för de metanbildare som i en välmående process står för den största delen av metangasproduktionen.

Peas as feed for dairy cows

AbstractAn approaching overproduction of cereals and a future uncertain supply of non genetic modified vegetable protein feedstuffs have increased the interest in an expansion of the domestic production of protein feedstuffs in Norway. Besides rapeseed (Brassica campestris), peas (Pisum sativum) may be the most suitable crop for this purpose. Peas are characterized by having a relatively high content of crude protein, ranging between 20-26%, a high content of starch, 42-51%, and a low content of fat. In general, the energy value for peas is higher than for barley but lower than for rapeseed and soybean meal.Pea protein consists of albumins and globulins to 85-100%, which leads to the fact that a large part of the pea protein is soluble and degradable in the rumen. Starch in peas is on the other hand to a large extent resistant to rumen degradation compared to starch from other starch rich feedstuffs.

For practical reason, man has forced the horses into narrow spaces. Stabling includes factors as feeding and bedding. In the boxes the bedding materials must be kept clean and maintain good hygiene.
