This essay was to investigate what self-image public libraries convey on Facebook and what image is received by the users, along with comparison of those. It was investigated if the received image corresponded with the users? previous image of public libraries. The method used was interviews with the Facebook administrators and surveys with the users. The theoretical framework was Kotler?s model for image creation.The research is mainly American and shows Facebook as an accepted marketing tool for libraries among students, but as not taken seriously by the library staff.

This thesis is an analysis of articles published in the Palestinian newspaper al-Quds concerning the escalated conflicts within the Fatah movement during the summer in 2004.The study is done on the basis of the assumption that The Palestinian Authority (PA) expects the domestic media institutions to support the official objectives and, in this case most important, the national unity. My investigation reveals that the articles are indeed highly adjusted and purposed to unify and to hinder further growing instability, both in the politicalsphere and in the streets. The message urging for unification under the PA is constantly, directly and indirectly, repeated throughout the articles by the choice of themes and references as well as by the choice of individuals and organisations delivering statements..

Uppsatsens syfte är att granska sexton recensioner publicerade i svensk respektive amerikansk press gällande filmen Den Gröna Cykeln (Haifaa Al-Mansour, 2012). Undersökningen grundar i kritikernas syn på genus och jämställdhet samt kulturell och nationell identitet som filmen berör. Recensionerna analyseras och jämförs för att hitta skillnader och likheter i den svenska respektive amerikanska receptionen. Analysen visar att skillnaden mellan de två nationernas reception är uppdelade mellan de två fokusområdena, där de amerikanska kritikerna fokuserar på kulturell och nationell identitet och jämför filmens skildring av det saudiarabiska samhället med den amerikanska kulturen. De svenska kritikerna tycks generellt ha större fokus på filmens skildring av genus och jämställdhet till skillnad från amerikanerna..

Trots ett stort antal medlemmar på webbcommunityn är dessa medlemmar, ur ett demografiskt perspektiv, en ganska enhetlig grupp. Framför allt är det unga tjejer med svensk bakgrund som utgör majoriteten av de registrerade medlemmarna på webbcommunityn.

Syftet med vårt arbete är att få en uppfattning om hur några lärare använder sig av läxan i undervisningen, samt vilken betydelse de anser den har för lärandet. Vi har gjort en kvalitativ intervjustudie med sex lärare på högstadiet. Resultatet av vår studie visar att lärare använder sig av läxor, och att repetition och innötning är de främsta skälen till att språklärare ger läxa, men även den tidsbesparande aspekten är ett starkt skäl. Att eleverna får träna sig i eget ansvar verkar dessutom ligga i fokus. Lärarna känner även press från föräldrar att de ska ge läxor.

This master thesis investigates how the county administrative boards communicate the regional risk and vulnerability analyses to municipalities in Sweden. Information has been gathered through a survey and through a case study involving three county administrative boards. The results revealed that there are possibilities to improve or develop the communication in all the county administrative boards. The information channels are often written or web based, these channels promote one way communication rather than a dialog. The thesis gives suggestion on how to work out a strategy for a more effective communication, the case study also gives ideas on how a county administrative board can work with communication..

This thesis examines how power is constructed through language use in the Swedish mining policy with the legislative change proposition to enabling uranium mining. The aim is to analyze differences in how the government and municipalities formulate and justify their positions. The study adopts a qualitative case study design and applies Fairlough?s critical discourse analysis. The empirical material consists of a governmental press release and public consultation responses from municipalities.

Even though the American author H.P. Lovecraft (1890-1937) has been praised as one of the most influential writers of horror literature in the 20th century, his style of writing has occasionally been criticized. Lovecraft was using a writing style based on strict scientific language, where the human condition and existence are irrelevant in the narrative. This includes less focus on character development and more on the importance of atmosphere and environments. I am presenting narratological analyzes of what is often considered to be three of Lovecraft?s ?greatest works?: ?The Call of Cthulhu?, At the Mountains of Madness, and ?The Shadow over Innsmouth.? These analyzes are used to highlight Lovecraft?s science-oriented language and narratological techniques, with the focus of studying what methods Lovecraft was using to give his works and his readers a sense of dread, hopelessness, and an alien atmosphere.

Syftet med studien är att undersöka om det finns något samband mellan Facebook användning och negativa känslor. Studien genomfördes genom en enkät som delades via Facebook. Urvalet bestod av 100 personer.

The purpose of this thesis is to examine whether institutional ownership has an influence on CEO compensation in companies where the institutions have invested. In order to fulfil the purpose of the thesis a quantitative study was carried out within the Swedish corporate context where we have studied Swedish institutional investors and companies quoted on the Stockholm Stock Exchange. Our period of study was the financial year of 2007.The empirical questions at issue is; Was there a connection between Swedish institutional ownership and the size of the CEO compensation, and, does Swedish institutional ownership lead to a certain type of CEO compensation in terms of structure?Our results did not suggest that an increased institutional ownership neither leads to a certain type of salary level nor a certain kind of salary structure. These results contradict earlier American research, which has been done within this area and has previously shown a secured connection.The reasons for our results may be many and it is difficult to state any concrete conclusions to why we received differing results.

This thesis discusses main problems associated with dictionary-based Cross-Language Information Retrieval as lexical and translational ambiguity of query terms, translation of compounds and phrases, dictionary limitation. The purpose of the study is to investigate how query structure influences the effectiveness of CLIR regarding performance of three query types: original query, unstructured query and structured query. Query structuring refers to the application of #syn-operator to group query terms. The study comprises an experiment that was performed in the InQuery IR system with TrecUta database that contains 550,000 news articles from different American newspapers. 24 topics were used for the experiment.

I det här arbetet behandlas användningen av 3D som planeringsverktyg för kommunal planering och vägprojektering. Projektet går ut på att utveckla en 3D-modell över ett område i Kalmar med teorier inom informationsdesign och kommunikation med kartor. Huvudsyftet är att undersöka hur en stadsmiljö i 3D kan utvecklas för att bli ett hjälpmedel i planeringsprocessen och dialogen med Kalmars befolkning och press.Med stöd i teorier och en kvalitativ undersökning genom ett användartest undersöks problemformuleringen: Hur kan man utveckla en tredimensionell miljö i syfte att underlätta planeringen av nybyggnationer på områden Norra Kvarnholmen och Malmfjärden med utgångspunkt från teorier kring kommunikationsprocesser och kommunikation via kartor? This paper examines the interpersonal and intercorporate networks of interlocking boardmembers among Sweden's 50 largest publicly traded companies in 1985 and 2005. We find that both the interpersonal and intercorporate networks of 1985 are considerably more coherent and densely connected than those of 2005. The observed changes in social network structure are compared to changes in company ownership in Swedish publicly traded companies during the same period, and it is found that the observed changes in network density and cohesion can be related to a notable increase in the number of foreign board members. These results imply that the social organization of the Swedish system of corporate governance has changed notably during the period. Social network theory suggests that these changes can explain the greater demand for external regulation, decreased homogeneity of board members and increase in board member compensation observed under the period.
