The aim of this essay is to find out how different factors influence the occupational role in a rehabilitation garden. The study is based on two qualitative interviews with and shadowing of the gardeners in the rehabilitation gardens of Alnarp and Gröna Rehab in Gothenburg. The result shows that the main factors that influence the occupational role is the gardener?s background, the garden/place, the participants, the team and the possibilities for development. The occupational role appears to consist of several different roles; the team-worker, the activity and project manager, the source of inspiration, the educationalist, the informer, the therapist and the fellow human being.

This study compare if there is any differences between Fairtrade certified and uncertified coffee producers in Aceh Tengah, Indonesia. The aim was to compare the way the two groups of farmers produces their coffee and see if there were any differences between them, income, post harvest, production etc. During a visit in the district of Aceh Tengah, producers from both groups were given a questionnaire with questions about their farm and their production. The results of the questionnaires showed that the certified producers felt they had benefits being a part of a certified cooperative. Even with the experienced benefits the certified cooperatives gave the connected producers, like agronomy consultation and workshops the uncertified producers had a higher income from the coffee per hectare. This study also indicated that introduction and presence of Fairtrade and the connection to the world market Fairtrade brings with it, has gained the entire area, for example with more stabile coffee prices..

The main objective of this study was to investigate the possible design of a horticultural therapy program in Swedish correctional treatment facilities. In the USA the use of horticultural therapy in offender rehabilitation is much more frequent compared with Sweden. The aim of these programs typically contains education for inmates. Research has been made indicating that these programs can have positive effects on psychosocial behavior and on vulnerability to substance abuse among incarcerated offenders. In this study the examples of these programs was categorized and analyzed from three perspectives; Vocational, social and therapeutic horticultural programs.

The ambition with this piece of work, a collaborative project between a landscape architecture student and an architecture student, is to design a centre for art and culture at Lilla Stenshuvud near Kivik in Skåne in the south of Sweden. Though the project draws upon existing plans for an institution like this on the site, it has been independently developed and can thus be regarded as a project sufficient in itself. During the work-in-progress a proposal has been shaped which considers the existing landscape and emphasizes its characteristics. Great effort has been invested in the centre?s location, and thereafter the work has focused on finding an expression for the art centre that connects to the specific character of the surroundings in this part of Skåne.

Detta examensarbete är resultatet av arbetet under sista delen av min landskapsarkitektutbildning på Alnarp, SLU. Arbetet riktar sig främst till de med ett intresse för frågor som hållbar stadsbyggnad och stadsplanering. Arbetets grund ligger i en utvärdering av stadsdelen Bo01 i Malmö enligt ett certifieringssystem för hela stadsdelar ? BREEAM Communities. Som upptakt till detta görs en omvärldsanalys och introduktion av aktuella miljöfrågor, och då i synnerhet sådana med relation till staden. Med hjälp av de bedömningsverktyg BREEAM Communities erbjuder görs en utvärdering av ett antal aspekter på Bo01.

This is a BA thesis in landscape planning at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Alnarp. The purpose of the thesis is to investigate why Japanese gardens, created in Sweden, often lack the feeling connected with Japanese gardens. The thesis includes a short study of Japanese history, spanning from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, to create a mild understanding of how the Japanese society changed, due to political, religious and cultural influences. The traditional Japanese garden styles, developed during this period, have been concisely compiled separately to create a homogeneous image of each style. In order to display opposite views of garden design in the European garden styles, some of the european styles have been concisely compiled as well. To produce a higher level of understanding of the Japanese garden, a consice compilation of the fundamental design principles has been included, as well as variuos types of decoration typical to the Japanese gardens, since the miss-use of these is a certain way of losing the feeling of a Japanese garden. The thesis is concluded by a consice compilation of possible reasons as to why the feeling connected with Japanese gardens is absent, as well as some attempt to include the feeling in the Swedish versions of Japanese gardens..

This is a final project which makes up 20 credits at the Landscapearchitecture programme at SLU in Alnarp. The thesis is design based. My final project is comprised two parts; of a competition entry for ? A New Square in the Centre of Täby? as well as a theoretical study that derives from the competition proposal. The competiton itself was announced on March 1st 2007 with the final hand-in date on May 28th 2007. The program of the competition asked for a flexible urban square that offers a diverse range of activities that can be used during both night and day, all year around. I became interested in the term ?mutlifunctionality? and I went on to use the subject as a base for my design approach.

This is a bachelor?s essay in the landscape architect programme in Alnarp. The purpose of the essay is to describe discussions about security in planning contexts in Sweden. Written material from three levels of the discussions has been studied: Swedish research, governmental directives and practisers. I have tried to obtain a variation in types of material.

This paper appeals to professionals working with green questions. It intends to create a discussion about which plant species that can be established in a fieldlayer of a naturelike planting on fertile agricultural land. To initiate the essay, a studie of which values that can be connected with an establishment of a fieldlayer was performed . A part of Tor Nitzelius Park in Alnarp, a so called naturlike planting on fertile agricultural land, was used as a model for the choice of species. With the aid of soil values, photos and a list of current species, interviews with four ecologists were performed.

Detta examensarbete tar avstamp i kursen Markbyggandets hårda material och konstruktion, Tn0214, som var valbar under mitt tredje och sista år på landskapsingenjörsprogrammet vid SLU ? Alnarp. Då jag har erfarenheter av byggnads- och möbelsnickeri samt ett intresse för material har jag under min tid på SLU- Alnarp reflekterat över de sätt som trä idag används utomhus. Det absolut vanligaste trämaterialet för utomhus-tillämpningar idag torde vara konventionellt tryckimpregnerat virke. Detta trots att jag tycker mig se allt fler annonser, artiklar och notiser om nyutvecklade alternativa trämaterial.

Avståndet mellan Sverige och Danmark är kort vilket underlättar rörligheten för kapital, varor, tjänster och arbetskraft. På den svenska sidan om Öresund är den privata tjänstesektorn med högutbildad arbetskraft huvudsakligen koncentrerad till sydvästra delen av Skåne. Malmö är Sveriges tredje största stad med nästan 300 000 invånare, denna region är länets ekonomiska motor. Intill Malmö ligger Lund som är en av Sveriges största studieorter.

Ett problem med ekproduktion i Sverige är att trädslaget har en förhållandevis lång omloppstid i jämförelse med övriga trädslag. Spekulationer har funnits om man genom en hårdare gallring kan påskynda ekarnas tillväxt och skapa en effektivare ekskogsskötsel. Dessa aspekter, tillsammans med behovet av ett gallringsförsök inom landets gränser, medförde att forskare vid institutionen för sydsvenskt skogsbruk i Alnarp anlade försöket. I det här arbetet analyserar vi hur och om en alternativ skötsel av ek påskyndar diametertillväxten och därmed förkortar omloppstiden, samt vilka effekter det får för volymproduktionen. Genom regressionsanalys skapades tillväxtfunktioner för diametertillväxten av huvudstammarna för de olika skötselmetoderna som använts.

Det här examensarbetet uppkom efter en kontakt med SLU i Skara. Författaren är uppväxt i Skara och letade efter ett ämne med lokal anknytning att skriva om. Det här examensarbetet är skrivet för att ledningen på SLU campus i Skara är intresserade av att utveckla sin utemiljö. SLU i Skara vill skapa en attraktiv utemiljö för studenter och forskare som ska kunna utvecklas tillsammans för framtida verksamheter. Arbetet är skrivet ur en landskapsingenjörs perspektiv och fokus i arbetet är hur skötseln i områdets utemiljö kan förbättras och förslag på mindre omprojekteringar som kan göras för att höja kvalitén på utemiljön.

ABSTRACT Tobacco Rattle Virus (TRV) is a soilborne plant virus. It is an important pathogen in potatoes where it causes spraing disease. This disease can lead to significant economical loss for the farmer, so it is imperative to get the proper diagnose before planting. TRV is spread naturally by free-living nematodes (Trichodorus and Paratrichodorus). Transference of TRV to a plant occurs when the virus-carrying nematodes feed on plant roots. The relationship between virus, nematodes and plants is complicated, and has to these days not been fully characterized. The diagnostic methods available today do not work sufficiently.
