People in Sweden have more and more dogs in their care, and several of these dogs are kept in kennels in back yards for various reasons. According to Swedish animal welfare legislations the need for social contact for dogs has to be met. However, there are few details presented on how to meet the need and when it can be considered satisfied. Does the dog need human contact to fulfill the need, or is the company of other dogs enough? This study aims to specify what can be acceptable when it comes to fulfilling dogs? social needs in accordance with the Swedish animal welfare legislation.

Environmental problems are accelerating with energy consumption and the release of greenhouse gases as the major issues. This affects landscape planning mostly through environmentally hazardous transportation and heating of buildings. In environmental work, the term "Sustainable development" is often used. This term was coined in the Bruntland report in 1987. A number of frameworks have been developed to clarify the term and to remind the user about relevant aspects of sustainability.

This study was done regarding whether sealing or ventilation is the best solution to prevent moisture on cold attics. The authors of this report addressed the problem with moisture in attics when they started their cooperation with Peab.The methods included interviews with people, database research, and calculations of a project in Akersberga north of Stockholm. The conclusion is based on interviews and other information as they are analyzed in relation to the house of reference. The focus of this report is on problems with moisture in the attics known as cold attics.The background of the problem with moisture is that today?s slabs are usually insulated to save energy and that the attics nearly gives the climate as the outdoor climate.

The object of the thesis is to propose a new design for the neighbourhood of Veiberg that is situated in the small Norwegian town Jessheim. My approach was to first make an analysis of the whole community and the structure of the town, and then gradually focus on the actual neighbourhood to continue the research there. On the basis of my research the block will be redesigned. The research will lead to a well-planned design of the neighbourhood, which will adapt it to its surroundings in a sustainable and constructive way. The project will lead you through the history of the town and the intentions and aims of the municipality. The project also examines the structure of the town and the function of the neighbourhood in the town today as well as investigation of the history, the structure and the qualities in the area.

Syftet med denna uppsats är att visa hur en förskolegård kan gestaltas med utgångspunkt i barns lek. Med vårt arbete vill vi belysa att den fysiska miljön påverkar hur bra leken utvecklas på förskolegården och därmed påverkar barnets olika upplevelser och erfarenheter under utomhusvistelsen. Förslaget utgår från barnets lek som en viktig komponent för utveckling och hälsa. Därmed är även pedagogik och motorik viktiga förutsättningar på förskolans gård. Till grund för gestaltningen ligger en litteratursökning samt en brukardialog som genomförts med barn, förskolelärare och föräldrar. På så sätt utvecklade vi en förståelse för platsen och dess användning som kunde vävas ihop med den teoretiska kunskapen om barns lek i utemiljön. Under arbetet tar vi fasta på att storleken på förskolegården är viktig för barns lek samt att leken flyter bättre i miljöer med naturkaraktär.

The preschool constitutes a big part of many children's everyday existence. Its contents are therefore of great importance and the environment deserves a well thoughtout design. In this study, surveys in field and literature have resulted in conclusions around how plants can be used in children's play environments, in order to contribute to the experiencerelated values. The aim is to present conclusions to lean on when drawing up designproposals for new playgrounds, especially where the natural conditions are not so favorable. The first question that is responded to is how plants can be used in order to enrich the children's play environments.

The municipal housingcompany Strömstadsbyggen is one of the parties involved in the extensive development that mustbe implemented to meet the changes and developments which the issue holds.One area that is of interest in the discussion is Rådhusberget - this due to the existing infrastructureand unique qualities that the area holds. In order to achieve the best solutions possible for the area,Strömstadsbyggen wishes to listen to what the existing tenants at Rådhusberget thinks and feelsregarding the area and its future potential.This thesis has therefore been carried out in collaboration with Strömstadsbyggen and has beenaimed at identifying the current tenants' thoughts and opinions in the existing area of developmentand infill potential. The aim of this work was also to investigate how the tenants value their homeand local environment in its current state, and what their wishes are for the possible futuredevelopment of Rådhusberget.To achieve analyzable results concerning how the tenants perceive these aspects, an extensivesurvey have been carried out which were sent out to all tenants in the area.

I en rapport från Skolverket framkommer att elever uppger att de lär sig mest och bäst när matematiken är relevant och begriplig, verklighetsanknuten samt då undervisningen är varierad, flexibel och där monotona räkningar undviks (Skolverket 2003). Skulle kanske då utomhusmatematiken kunna vara ytterligare en metod för att förklara problem för elever, ge matematiken en verklighetsanknytning och samtidigt skapa variation i undervisningen? Det jag vill uppnå i arbetet är att beskriva hur utomhusmatematik kan användas som ett komplement till ordinarie matematikundervisning, sett ur ett lärarperspektiv. Detta har jag försökt svara på genom att ställa frågorna; Hur beskriver och resonerar undervisande lärare i grundskolans senare år om utomhusmatematik och elevernas lärande? Vilka faktorer påverkar/avgör om lärare använder sig av utomhusmatematik samt vilka utomhusmatematiska övningar ger lärarna exempel på? Jag har utgått från en explorativ ansats med ett hermeneutiskt perspektiv och som metod har jag använt mig av kvalitativa intervjuer där jag intervjuat sex lärare för att få svar på mina frågeställningar.

Discussing light and lighting in the night-time environment of Tensta, a Stockholm suburb built between 1962 and 1970, this thesis suggests that lighting should be designed for the outdoor environment as a whole. The feeling of safety and human perception are important components in this thesis. Starting with some comments on visual perception and how we adapt our sight to an interval of the visual input we get, makes it possible to understand that more light sometimes hides, rather than reveals, things. Amongst the dispersed houses, in the green parks of Tensta, this turns the pedestrian roads, lit by pole-top-mounted fixtures, into light tunnels in a dark surrounding. Talking about the feeling of safety I am inspired by, amongst others K. Lynch, B. Hjort and J.

Storage of biomass is often associated with problems such as heat development, dry matter losses and reduction of fuel quality. The rise in temperature can potentially cause a risk of self-ignition in the fuel storage. Moreover, emissions from storage piles can cause health problems in the surrounding. The dry matter losses and reduction of fuel quality can have economical effects. The aim of this thesis project is to develop guidelines on how to store large amount of biomass at Vattenfalls heat and power plants in an optimal way.

"Ta trappan till uppsatsen" är en hermeneutiskt inriktad empirisk studie baserad på en kvalitativ undersökning. I intervjuerna, som är gjorde i två fokusgrupper med hjälp av semi-strukturerade frågor, deltog åtta studenter som går magisterprogrammet i utomhuspedagogik 2007-2009 på Linköpings Universitet (LiU).Syftet med denna uppsats är att genom en empirisk studie undersöka hur studenter som läser utomhuspedagogik vid LiU upplever sin process att påbörja, genomföra och slutföra skrivandet av sin magisteruppsats. Jag fokuserar i studien på betydelsen av stöd och vilka eventuella hinder som studenterna upplever personligen, i sin nära omgivning och i relationen med universitetet.Resultatet visar att majoriteten av dessa vuxna studenter, som i snitt arbetar ca 90 % parallellt med deltidsstudierna på 50%, ansåg att de viktigaste motivationsfaktorerna inför påbörjandet av uppsatsen var den egna känslan av inre tillfredsställelse samt att få ökad respekt för sitt arbete från kollegor och chefer.Under genomförandet ansåg majoriteten att olika "mentala verktyg" varit till stöd, samt när det fanns en tydlig progression i trappstegsform gällande speciellt litteraturen och reflektionen. Positivt var även att starta med uppsatsen tidigt under kursen. Det fanns en oro för att inte få kontinuerlig handledning och tydlig och konkret information om uppsatsskrivandet från LiU, vilket upplevdes som hinder i skrivprocessen.Vid slutet av skrivprocessen hade betydelsen av yttre bekräftelse minskat och den egna inre motivationen var viktigast.

For an outdoor environment to function optimally as a playarea requires that it is flexible, that is, contains places and elements that give room for the imagination and for own interpetretations, and also that the children in some way can influence and change their surroundings. It is also important to have variety, both in the sense that the playground has a unique character that distinguishes it from other places, and that it allows many different games and activities. There should for example be room for both wild games of running and moving around where many children can participate, and calm corners to withdraw to for rest or quiet play. A good playground should surprise, challenge and encourage children to discover their surroundings. One way to achive this is to use plants and materials from nature, whose irregular forms and structures can become interesting elements to explore. Vegetation also gives sence-experiences of various kinds, materials like twigs and leafs to play with and a place to play house.

A problem in the field of district heating is the oil burners needed to provide power when a peak load occurs. One possible way of reducing the needed amount of oil is to reduce the power demand for space heating in the district-heating substations when the need for district heating water exceeds a certain limit. This can be done by use of a locally working controller function.In this Thesis the options concerning load priority are evaluated. To evaluate the potential for using controller functions concerning peak load priority an experiment was brought out in a chosen district-heating substation. The impact on the indoor thermal comfort during a heat reduction was also taken into account.
