Mail Exchange Protocol (MEP): Ett utkast till nytt protokoll för elektronisk post

SMTP, the current Protocol for sending electronic mail (e-mail) over the Internet, has for many years suffered from several problems and limitations. When it was designed, well over twenty years ago, the requirements for e-mail were very different from those of today. A message was a text message in English, and both user and machine were explicitly named in the address. The Protocol was not designed to transfer other types of messages, and no mechanism was included to verify the identity of the sender. In order to solve these shortcomings, a new e-mail Protocol needs to be defined. This report specifies a basis for what such a Protocol may look like.

En jämförande studie av IPv4 och IPv6

The Internet Protocol of today has been used for over 20 years. A new version of the Protocol has been developed to replace the old one. This is a direct result due to the explosive growth of the usage of the Internet. This follows by new demands which needs new solutions. This report brings up the old Protocol IPv4, the new Protocol IPv6 and shows what kind of changes that has been developed to meet the users demand. The report brings up two important aspects; internet security and mobility.

FPGA-design av en STDM-baserad multiplexer för seriell multiprotokollskommunikation

The remotely operated underwater vehicles that the client develops have needs of different kinds of data channels. In order to minimize the need of physical cable between the control unit and a ROV, a multiplex Protocol has been developed. The Protocol has been designed with the aim of using the bandwidth of the transferring link as efficient as possible. The different kinds of data channels used during this thesis project is; RS232, RS485 and CAN. ROM and FIFO-memories have been used to be able to effectively manage the different data channels. All the reading and sending of these channels have been implemented in FPGA-technology, the coding is made generic so that it will be easier to add more channels to the system in the future. The multiplex Protocol is a modified version of the method STDM and it is a proprietary Protocol.

"Halfpipe Active Channel"- developing a secure communications protocol

With the advent of powerful multimedia capable mobile phones, the market for mobile services is flourishing. Zenterio AB's Halfpipe Active Desktop is a complete distributed mobile service platform a with a powerful server and platform-independent client. The communication between the client and server takes place over a GPRS-capable mobile network. The purpose of this thesis is to develop a secure communications Protocol for use between the Halfpipe Active Desktop client and server. This is done by determining requirements, analyzing candidate Protocols and then by designing the final Protocol.

Resurseffektivt bussprotokoll o?ver RS-485

This report describes the design and implementation of a multi-master, packet based Protocol for small and tiny microcontrollers where resources are limited. The Protocol was named "Tiny Controller Network" or TCN for short. The Protocol is meant mainly as a control bus for automation and sensor acquisition applications but due to its flexibility can also be used for other purposes as well. It borrows some of its functionality and design ideas from the well known CAN bus and Modbus but also has a number of major differences like the use of standard hardware and time synchronisation. One of the key aspects during the design was the use of very little system resources and common on-chip hardware peripherals like a UART.

Realtidsstyrning av IP-kamera

The final thesis named Tracking in Sensor Networks was created by the company Instrument control Sweden. The thesis work is to create a plug-in to an already developed software pro- gram, SkyView. Via the software program one should be able to control an IP-camera from AXIS, model 215 PTZ, with the appropriate Protocol over a network.  An Application Programming Interface, API, was used to easily control the camera through SkyView. The interface is called VAPIX and is used to all cameras from AXIS.

Zero knowledge Protocols is a lesser known type of Protocol that can be used for identification. These Protocols are especially designed not to reveal any information during an identification process that can be misused later on, neither by the one who should be convinced of the identity of the user, nor by anyone else that is eavesdropping. Many of these Protocols are also especially designed for implementation in smart cards. The more common type of card with a magnetic stripe has during the last few years become more susceptible to attacks since they are easily copied. Smart cards combined with a secure identification Protocol has been predicted to be the solution to this problem.

Quality of Service i IP-nätverk

The original promise behind the Internet Protocol was to deliver data from a sender to the receiver using a best-effort approach. This means that the Protocol makes no guarantees except that it will try to deliver the data to the destination. If some problem occurs the packet may be discarded by the network without any notice. No guarantees are made regarding the time it takes to deliver the data, the rate at which data will be delivered or if data is delivered in the same order it was sent. The best-effort approach is arguably the reason behind the success of the Internet Protocol and is what makes IP scalable to networks the size of the Internet.

Synkronisering med SyncML

The last couple of years the use of mobile devices such as mobile phones and PDAs has increased tremendously. Most of the these devices have their own Protocols for synchronising data and this has given rise to a need for a standard synchronisation Protocol, SyncML. This thesis compares this Protocol against the existing ones. The comparison shows that the preferred choice is SyncML. Also an application using SyncML has been developed.

Synkroniserad videouppspelning över Internet

The goal with this project was to achieve real-time synchronized video playback over the Internet, or in other words, that multiple clients play the same part of a video at the same time. The result shows how it is possible to build such a Protocol, that gives a user experience that the video is synchronized between computers when playing a locally stored file, stream or video delivered using progressive download. This was achieved by designing, then role playing to find weaknesses, and at last implementing the Protocols to see how they work in practice. By using such a Protocol, it is possible to navigate and discuss around a video in for example a telephone conference, and be sure that everybody is looking on the same picture..

Audio Broadcast

This report is the written part of a bachelorthesis on the computer engineering program atUniversity of Halmstad. The project was a cooperate project that where done together withFree2move Holding AB. Free2move is a company with eight employees in Sweden and four inMalaysia. The company is today developing Bluetooth modules and RFID chips. The market forthis kind of products is growing very rapidly, last year it grew 71 percent.

Ipv6 : En empirisk studie i hur Ipv6 protokollet har utvecklats de senaste åren.

Internet grows, so it?s cracking, soon will all IPv4 addresses be allocated and a solution is urgently needed. The new Protocol, IPv6 is the solution to this problem. With a size of 128 bits against IPv4s 32 bits gives IPv6 a huge amount of addresses to distribute. The security addition that may be added manually in IPv4 is the standard with the new Protocol.

Implementation av FlexRay prototypstack

FlexRay is a new communication Protocol which is fast, reliable and flexible and therefore can meet the increasing demands on data communication in the vehicle industry. The Protocol is developed by an industrial consortium containing among  others BMW, Daimler Chrysler, Motorola and Phillips. Today (May 2009) Hägglunds is using CAN for data transmission in their systems. CAN is getting obsolete and has difficulties in coping with the increasing flow of communication. In this report FlexRay and its communication capacity is studied.
