Videodistribution och -konsumtion på mobiltelefoner
This report is the result of a master thesis carried out by the author, student at the Royal Instituteof Technology(KTH). The task was performed as a product development process at a companycalled Ameibo AB, located in Stockholm. It is the final task of the studies at the Master'sprogramme Design and Product Realization. The report is structured in a chronological order anddescribes the methods used, the implementation of these methods and a presentation of theresults given from these studies.Ameibo is a company located in Stockholm, distributing films on the internet. The aim of thismaster thesis was to investigate the possibilities of entering the market for portable devices. Thecompany wanted a suggestion of a solution based on the market for portable devices andplatforms, a technical comparison of different platforms and some technical details regarding filmdistribution on portable devices. A prototype based on the outcome of the results in the initialstudy was expected.A product development process divided into three phases was carried out; information study,decision-making process and development of prototype. The information study was intended toincrease the subject knowledge and mapping of the technical details regarding film distribution onportable devices. Decision-making methods was used to objectively compare the differentplatforms available, and recommend one of them for prototype development. In the developmentphase a prototype was programmed for the chosen platform, based on the results of the initialstudy. Along with the prototype a transcoding process was developed for encoding films from theexisting high quality format into a format suited for portable devices. The total work flow wentfrom idea to prototype.The last part of the report describes the prototype and gives recommendations to the company.Needs for making the product ready for market launch are handed over in a concluding discussion.
