Vidareutveckling och utvärdering av operatörsplatser på svenska stridsfartyg

The ability to handle potentially dangerous and hostile situations on a military vesselrequires that the equipment works effectively with the personnel that use it. It is importantthat this equipment can be used by different people. An operator on a military vesselshall be able to handle information about hostile threats, navigation and the steering ofunmanned vehicles. A operator console should therefore be constructed in such a waythat the operator can handle a large flow of information. And the information given bythe technical system should be displayed correctly to facilitate the operators ability tohandle and interpret the information correctly, in order for the operator to make thecorrect decision at any given moment. These decisions must often be made during shortperiods of time. The operators often sit long hours by their seat and their tasks can bemonotonous.The purpose of this thesis has been to collect the operators opinions, examine and toevaluate the ergonomic and physical interface on the existing consoles. Another purposehave been to give examples of how future operator consoles could be constructed to beadapted to the many needs of operators.The investigated tasks performed by the operators showed to be free from physical demandingand monotonous repetetive work. The mental demand was moderate. The mostsignificant contributor to workload was temporal demand. The trackballs, joysticks or thetouch sensitive displays was not physically demanding or difficult to activate according tothe end?users. Furthermore no serious shortcomings was found concerning the physicalinterface.The developed concept of future operator consoles have two stacked screens, areas for placingnotes and is better suited than existing consoles for doing office tasks and controllingremotely operated vehicles.
