Utveckling av biopsiinstrument

Instrumenthållare för skruvnålsbiopsi

This Master Thesis has been carried out in cooperation with Ursus Medical AB (URSUS) which markets, assembles and sells the Rotex Screw Needle Biopsy Instrument ®. The instrument is delivered with an instrument holder. Customers had expressed dissatisfaction over that they needed to use two hands during a biopsy procedure, which resulted in a project to develop a new instrument holder. The project aim was to create concepts for how the new instrument holder should be designed, with focus on the mechanics. The new instrument holder would build on the existing basic principle that the screw needle and the cannula were screwed into the tissue. The thesis work would result in a technical solution and a functional prototype of the chosen concept. To achieve this, a generic product development processes were used and began with a comprehensive literature review. Users were interviewed and with the information given together with the requirements from URSUS a specification of requirements were formed. Idea and concept generation resulted in four concepts and one was chosen for further development. The work resulted in a product description of the concept Tumsnurran and a 3D-printed prototype. The developed instrument holder was one hand operated and fulfilled URSUS requirements and most of the wishes from the interviewed users. The screw needle and the cannula were equipped with a plastic detail consisting of a cogwheel and a thread, and by spinning one of the two wheels on the instrument holder the screw needle or the cannula would spin forward. The project was meant to be used as a part of URSUS product development process and the report ends with a discussion and suggestions for further development.
