This report describes an bachelor thesis work which is performed in cooperation with SVIA that develops and sells automation solutions for the manufacturing industry. The thesis purpose was to evaluate the machine FeedLine to find opportunities for improvement in the product?s design that could lead to more standardization and thus improving the efficiency of manufacturing and assembly.Based on these basic issues suggestions for improvements were developed:How can the design of FeedLine be improved to facilitate the assembly?Can more standardization be imposed on FeedLine?s design to enable more stocking of standard components?An initial pre-study was conducted to evaluate FeedLine?s to find opportunities for improvement in its overall design. During the pre-study staff at SVIA and two of its clients was interviewed. Based on information gathered during the interviews and observations by the authors improvements was amendments. The proposed improvements that has been carried out in the thesis work were selected together with the client.The authors established their own criteria for the selected proposals for improvement since there were no product design specifications from the client. The criteria were based on the functions that was considered important for the selected improvements. Based on the criteria concepts were established with brainstorming and morphology, advantages and disadvantages lists were established to facilitate the elections of concept. The elections has been performed with Go/No-Go where the concepts were pitted against the criteria that had been established. The concepts has been further developed with CAD models which have been established in Creo Parametric. Conceived manufacturing and assembly have been analyzed for the further developed concepts to be based upon in the final election of concepts. The final concepts were elected with feasibility studies performed together with the supervisor at SVIA. The authors chose to elect the final concepts together with the supervisor at SVIA to generate solutions that the company may have use for.The thesis work has resulted in four design improvements for FeedLine?s included parts that had been developed. An improvement work was performed on the vision tripod?s design that resulted in that a module with an integrated solution for mounting of the camera were developed. This, together with a splitting solution that was developed for the vision tripod led to that more standardization can be introduced and the number of variants can be reduced.A standard mount for filter regulators was also selected to be developed because there were no standard mount for filter regulators. The result was a standard mount that is fast to mount and produce. The authors chose to hand over two final concepts with two different locking functions that the client may evaluate with prototypes.Using the design improvements that have been performed on FeedLine, more standardization has been introduced resulting in that it has become possible to stock more standard parts of FeedLine. The design improvements has also resulted in higher efficiency of the manufacturing and the assembling.
