The aim of this study is to examine which factors in a traffic wardens? situation at work that promote and which that inhibit satisfaction at work. The aim of this study is also to examine if there are any differences in the work experiences for traffic wardens that work alone versus those who work in a team of two. The following questions are examined in the study:?Which factors promote and which factors inhibit the work situation for traffic wardens??Are there any differences between traffic wardens that work alone and those who work with another colleague? The selection consisted of eight traffic wardens, of which four of them work with another colleague while the other four work by themselves. The data was collected through interviews and observations which were analysed by means of qualitative content analysis. To achieve a deeper understanding of the informants? experiences of their situation at work, study results were interpreted through Antonovskys theory of KASAM. However, when this theory was found insufficient, Lysgaards theory about the social group and Blauners theory about alienation were used in a limited amount. The results show that the situation at work for traffic wardens can be promoting as well as inhibiting. The promoting factors consist of experiencing work as important and meaningful, there is a large social fellowship, pride of ones work and a sense of influencing. The inhibiting factors consist of people?s negative attitude and behaviour, the feeling of just ?ticketing? cars, to only have oneself to refer to, experience work as stressful, a lower status and that one does not have a greater influences in ones situation at work. The results also highlight the differences between traffic wardens that work in a team of two and those that work alone. Traffic wardens that work with another colleague more often experience promoting factors, while traffic wardens that work alone more often experience factors that inhibit work satisfaction. Common for both groups was experiencing the inhibiting factor as ?society?s negative attitude and behaviour?.Key words: Situation at work, experiences, traffic warden, KASAM, Antonovsky
