Spårtrafik i norra Stockholmsregionen

Northeast Stockholm is a region developing fast. There is already a great need for new transport solutions for the people commuting to the city, since long queues slow down car traffic and the local railway, Roslagsbanan, needs to be upgraded to attract more travelers. The competitive advantage of rail?traffic over the car when it comes to greenhouse gases and air pollutants is another reason to develop Roslagsbanan. This report investigates the differences between car and train to create a basis for a proposed expansion of Roslagsbanan. Once the proposal is presented, costs, emissions reductions and public benefits are analyzed. This is done in order to provide an answer to whether the proposal is a viable solution to the transport issue in the north?eastern Stockholm area. The proposed solution is to install a new line on Roslagsbanan from the Albano area, which lies between the stations Universitetet and Stockholm Östra, to Odenplan station. This will create a new terminal in the city, at Odenplan station, which gives a necessary relief to the Stockholm Östra terminal. In addition Odenplan offers a number of direct interchange options with other lines, which are not possible from Roslagsbanan today. The results show that the proposed solution is expected to cost 4,25 billion SEK. The major differences between the emissions from car traffic and Roslagsbanan are clarified. Social benefit from reduced emissions would give a net present value of around 500 million SEK, which means that the net present value ratio is ?0,88. That means that for one invested Swedish krona in the project you will get back 12 cents of Swedish krona from reduced emissions in the area.
