Skillnader i konsumentbeteende mellan försäljningskanaler

In todays' society e-commerce is growing at a rapid speed. 4,6 % of all retail sales on the Swedish market are done on the Internet. In the makeup category, which will be the category of focus in this study, 9 % of all the sales were done on the Internet during the last quarter of 2011. As it is today many suppliers do not have enough knowledge about e-commerce and instead of focusing on the development of the channel the focus should instead be on the development of the users of the channel. The purpose of this study is to understand the buying process with respect to the existing theories. The focus will be on the two stages information search and evaluation of alternatives. The study will create an understanding of the differences between shopping at a physical store and shopping over the Internet.A qualitative research method has been chosen for this study that is carried out through in depth-interviews and observations and time measurements of a buying situation both in a physical store and on the Internet. 11 respondents of different ages were carefully chosen to participate in the study and their thoughts, ideas and behaviour were analyzed to find general differences in the consumer behaviour between the different buying channels. The result from this is 10 differences which mainly are resulting from the three factors store atmosphere, Internet experience and what type of product is bought. Two groups of customers are identified depending on their interest in the category and how used they are to shopping online. The effect of the three factors is different depending on which group the customer belongs to. All the 10 differences can be seen as hypotheses to be tested in future quantitative research.
