Ser ni mer än bara min kropp? -Patienters upplevelser av trygghet under operation
ABSTRACTIntroduction: An increasing number of patients undergo surgery under local anesthesia and are thereforeawake during the procedure. Nursing care that is provided to these patients can differ from those thatreceive general anesthesia. Previous research has focused on patients? general experiences of being awakeintraoperative. But there is no research that focuses on patients perceptions of security. Knowledge aboutpatients? perceptions of security is important in order to be able to adapt care that provides safety for thepatient.Purpose: The purpose is to describe patients? intraoperative experiences of security during surgery underlocal anesthesia.Method: A qualitative design with interviews has been used. Data collection has been carried out at auniversity hospital in western Sweden. In the pilot study, interviews were conducted on 4 respondents thathad been operated on under local anesthesia. Data analysis was based on hermeneutic phenomenologicalresearch approach. Concepts of person, personalism and person-centered care have been highlighted andput in relation to security.Results: The analysis of patients? experiences of security intraoperatively led to five main themes with 2 -3 subcategories in each theme. The main themes are trust in healthcare, security to the care environment,to be a person, to be involved in your care and to have own beliefs about the intervention.Conclusion: The results show that patients? perceptions of safety can be affected by various factors suchas the waiting time, care environment, their own beliefs and health professionals? attitudes. Healthprofessionals? attitude is a major contributing factor for the sense of security. Qualities of person-centeredcare have emerged in which the importance of being seen as a person and be involved in your own carehas been described.
