Stroke is caused by a bleeding or infarct in the brain and is one of the most common diseases in Sweden today. The purpose of the study was to evaluate if Ronnie Gardiner?s Rhythm Therapy (RGR-therapy) has any effect, regarding motor control and the subjective experienced health related quality of life, on people who have been affected by stroke. The examination group consisted of eight people. The intervention consisted of RGR-therapy once a week during a period of nine weeks. Modified Motor Assessment Scale by Uppsala Akademiska Sjukhus-95 (M-MAS UAS-95), Sickness Impact Profile (SIP) and a descriptive interview were used as measurements. The persons were tested before and after the intervention period. Results from M-MAS UAS- 95 and SIP did not indicate any improvements of motor control or the experienced health related quality of life. The interview indicated increased self-esteem, happiness and social intercourse. The conclusion of the study is that RGR-therapy does not indicate any improvements of motor control or the experienced health related quality of life as objectively measured by M-MAS UAS-95 and SIP. However, subjectively the people reported a sense of increased well-being.
