Thisthesisaimstouserouteplanningandoptimizationtoimproveacompany?slogisticsolutionandfunctions.ThecompanyiscalledMyrornaSverigeandisacharityorganisationwiththeirownfleetofvehicles.MyrornaisownedbytheSwedishSalvationArmy.AllofMyrornasprofitsisreinvestedintheSalvationArmy,tosupporttheirsocialwork.Theirbusinessideaistocollectsecond-?handclothes,whicharegiftsfrompeoplesandcompaniesandresellthemthroughtheirstorestoamuchlowerprice.Thesegiftsarecollected,eitherthroughpickuponsiteorfromspeciallybuildboxeswerepeoplecandropofusedclothes.Intotalthereare171boxesthathastobevisitedonceaweekandeightstoreslocatedinthewest/southwestpartofSweden.ThecollectedclotheswillbesortedintheirproductioncentralandthereitwillbedeterminediftheyaresellableintheSwedishmarket,iftheywillbethrownawayorifthey?llbeexportedtothird-?worldcountries.Inthisstudywe?llinvestigatedifferentmethodsforrouteplanning,routeoptimizationandsimulation.Theresultsfromourinvestigationnarroweditdowntotwodifferentmethods,theClarke&WrightalgorithmandasimulationtoolcalledLogiX,Theresultsfromthesemethodswerecomparedtoeachotherandwiththelogisticsolutionthatisappliedtoday.Wefoundthatthedigitalsimulationtool,LogiX,weresuperiortoboththeClarke&Wright-?algorithmandthepresentsolution.Byusingthesimulationtoolitwaspossibletoreducethenumberofdrivenkilometresby46%andby7%comparedtotheClarke&Wrightsolution.Bothmethodshelpedtoreducetheenvironmentalimpactsandthecostsituationdrastically.Eventhoughthesimulationtoolgavethebestresult,theClarke&Wrightdidalsodrasticallyimprovethepresentlogisticsolution.Incomparison,theSimulationwereonly7%betterwhenitcametokilometresdriven.TodayMyrornasvehiclefleetcontains5lorries.Theyareabouttoreinvestinnewvehicles.Thereforewealsoinvestigatedhowmanyvehiclestheyactuallyneed.TheClarke&Wrightalgorithmsuggestedthattheywouldonlyneed4lorriesandthesimulationsaid3.Intotal,withusageofourmethodology,wewereabletoreducethecostperyearby1500000SEK,theemittingofgreenhousegasesby46%peryearandthepossibilitytogetridoftwovehicles.
