Produktivitet och personalplanering

- en fallstudie på Onninen AB 2008

During the last couple of years many sectors and markets have had an increase in the competitive situation, this has meant that being cost effective have become more essential if organizations want to stay in business and be competitive. Thus, one crucial issue has become how to utilize the resources already available within the organization. Organizations can thoroughly plan and control personnel resources in order to become more efficient. But to become more cost effective also means taking into consideration several key figures, productivity being one of the more important figures.Onninen, a wholesaler which has one of its two central warehouses in Örebro has experienced this issue, i.e. an increase in competitive situation in their market. This has lead to directives from Onninens central management that the warehouse in Örebro needs to increase its productivity by approximately 25 % during 2008. For the warehouse in Örebro this requires better planning and control of its personnel in order to meet the efficiency requirements set by the management. The question then becomes; How could Onninen utilize its personnel, in order to achieve the set goal of 25 % increase in productivity? In order to answer this question a case study was planned and conducted. The aim and objective of the case study was to map Onninens processes and to reach an understanding of Onninens personnel resource, and also to come up with ideas of improvements concerning how the personnel capacity can be planned and allocated to achieve the required goal.A tool was constructed in Microsoft Excel in order to map the processes in Onninen. The tool can be used to measure how the outcome meets its key figures for productivity; it can also be used to see various signals and trends for the order handling on the different stations. When the tool was constructed, usability was the main concern; Onninen needed to be able to use it in their processes without requiring too much learning time, as it would be counterproductive to the required goals. The case study conducted on the processes in Onninens central warehouse in Örebro has shown that Onninen management needs to put more effort in increasing the flexibility of the personnel and to reallocate personnel if needed. This means planning and controlling personnel in order to ensure that personnel are working at stations where there is orders to work with. One tendency that became evident during the case study was that personnel planning and control was not always done with the best interest of the organization in mind, which ultimately lead to lesser productivity and it has a negative affect when it comes to reaching the set goal of 25 % increase in productivity.
