Mötet med patienten vid klamydiasmittspårning

En kvalitativ studie om barnmorskans upplevelse av mötet

Background: Studies show that unsolved contact tracing of chlamydia increase in Uppsala County. Research shows that the meeting between patient and caregiver, when performing a contact tracing, may be crucial to the outcome of contact tracing. Objective: The aim of the study was to investigate how midwives describe the encounter with the patient during contact tracing in youth clinics in Uppsala County Council. Methods: A qualitative approach with semi- structured interviews was used to collect data. Nine midwives of varying age and work experience from seven different youth clinics in Uppsala County Council were interviewed. Results: The study shows that a mentally prepared patient who gets the chance to process the situation before the first meeting on the youth clinic provides conditions for a good encounter to take place, which in turn facilitates the contact tracing. The informants felt that creating trust was important in the initial contact with the patient. Informants described that using motivational interviewing in the encounter made the patient more motivated to participate in contact tracing. The informants described listening to the patient without making them feel guilty or that they were to blame. Informants described factors leading to time constraints in the meeting. These factors included the patient's drinking habits, culture, and attitudes etc. The informants experienced their work as fun, interesting and important. Conclusion: The midwife experienced a good meeting with the patient at a contact tracing and describes the meeting as important to performing a successful contact tracing. The midwives at the youth clinics in Uppsala describe how they work from a patient-centered approach, building trust with the patient. The midwifes are able to, with the help of knowledge, their work and using motivational interviewing, create change in the patient that provides for a secure and safe sexuality.
