Läsflöde eller läsmöda?

The purpose of this project was to find out how reading is affected, and not affected, by different elements on a start page. The site I was studied belongs to the magazine Fitness Magazine, and the current site has a problem. The editorial texts and articles don?t reach out to the visitors. The goal was to make a proposal for a new first page of the web site that highlights the texts and the reading.With the help of interviews, user testing and textual analysis, I studied if the texts were in itself that caused the problem or if it was the design. I found that it was a combination of text and design that caused the problems. The results showed that some elements of a website is needed to help the reader in the right direction while some elements was more noise that destroyed communication. The noise consisted of color combinations that fooled the brain, a logo that did not appear right, wrongly-placed ads, articles that were not suited for the web and a menu that was not located and designed to benefit the reading. I have made a design in which I tried to remove the noise to make the information more readable to visitors.
