Problem:How can processes of problem solving in a project contribute to
generation of organizational knowledge in a knowledge company?
Course:Master thesis in Business Economy
Purpose:By describe the processes of problem solving in two different projects
of our two chosen knowledge companies, we will clarify whether problem solving
contributes to the generation of organizational knowledge. The purpose of this
research is to increase the management consciousness concerning everyday
processes that will contribute to the creation and transfer of knowledge. This
is a condition to transfer human capital to structure capital and thereby
decrease the company?s vulnerability.
Approach:We gathered the data we needed through conversations and interviews
with people on the two knowledge companies. In order to get complete
information about organization culture, we made some observations too.
Results:Our main conclusions are as following: It comes natural for most
individuals to look for help from others when a problem appears. This process
takes place first of all within the project group but also outside. The
connection takes place physical between people or through means of
communications. The new information and knowledge are documented in the
company?s database but a big part is transferred through the personal meeting.
The company?s databases should be used on a regular basis and every member of
the organization should have access to the database. Knowledge generation
demands the right conditions: leadership, culture, structure, reward system and
technology that promote knowledge generation. Our research indicates that these
factors have different influences on the knowledge process. This is shown in a
model in our final discussion.
